ghostmaster Posted February 12, 2006 CID Share Posted February 12, 2006 Is LimeWire not opensource? If so, why would they put in spyware that users of the source code would find?

disturbed Posted February 12, 2006 CID Share Posted February 12, 2006 dude limewire Does Have Spyware in it;s code id like to see a proof of this - not he said she said proof, but actual proof - i use limewire very often and I like it, its fast, doesnt take up much resources, and as far as Im informed its spyware free
disturbed Posted February 12, 2006 CID Share Posted February 12, 2006 and btw - most p2p sharing programs connect to the similar if not the same network - so it's wrong to say that limewire is full of viruses - any p2p is full of viruses - but you could say that the share network is full of files which contain viruses, limewire has nothing to do with it

wingzero2309 Posted February 12, 2006 CID Share Posted February 12, 2006 the actual program limewire has no viruses or spyware... its just idiots that get viruses by downloading files (disguised as porn or something) like to start rumors just use your head before you click 'download', make sure you have an antivirus, and you should be fine. if you just think logically, you shouldnt really get any viruses. ex: you're downloading some image editing program (like photoshop or something), and it says the filesize is 500kb. Well, obviously 500kb's is WAY too small, so if you get a virus, then its not limewires fault, its your fault for just not thinking straight. Ryan314 Posted February 12, 2006 CID Share Posted February 12, 2006 Not true.. most zipped folders have something in the lines of virus bug trojan...trust me i scan everything.. i have to download at least 5 of the same thing to get on without something harmful also yes limewire has spyware in its code.. many spyware scanners i use detect limewire as spyware such as Comcast spyware scanner and a couple others ive tried download fraps.. it was the right size and everything because i checked what the size was..and three out of 4 had a bug

But after user complaints they released a newer version that had no spyware. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2002/01/04/financial1758EST0370.DTL http://news.com.com/2100-1038-5215028.html
