EWO Posted December 21, 2007 CID Share Posted December 21, 2007 A Different Christmas Poem The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight. The sparkling lights in the tree I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep. In perfect contentment, or so it would seem, So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream. The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear. Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the Sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear, And I crept to the door just to see who was near. Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight. A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old, Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold. Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child. "What are you doing?" I asked without fear, "Come in this moment, it's freezing out here! Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!" For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift, Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.. To the window that danced with a warm fire's light Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right, I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night." "It's my duty to stand at the front of the line, That separates you from the darkest of times. No one had to ask or beg or implore me, I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me. My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December," Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers." My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ', And now it is my turn and so, here I am. I've not seen my own son in more than a while, But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile. Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, The red, white, and blue... An American flag. I can live through the cold and the being alone, Away from my family, my house and my home. I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat. I can carry the weight of killing another, Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.. Who stand at the front against any and all, To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall." "So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright, Your family is waiting and I'll be all right" "But isn't there something I can do, at the least, "Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast? It seems all too little for all that you've done, For being away from your wife and your son." Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, "Just tell us you love us, and never forget. To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone, To stand your own watch, no matter how long. For when we come home, either standing or dead, To know you remember we fought and we bled. Is payment enough, and with that we will trust, That we mattered to you as you mattered to us." PLEASE, Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S.service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Roco Posted December 26, 2007 CID Share Posted December 26, 2007 LOL I am nearly fit to explode on all this patriotism balls , you post a picture of an attractive girl with her killing machine , you are mostly Christians , yet promote the joys of killing ,Why ? lets get this straight ,America has never had a large scale war on her own ground ,never lost millions and I mean milions of civilian women and children ,and I sincerely hope you never do , it ain't a pretty sight , there is no glory in war , maybe you see it as fun as long as it is in somebody else's back yard , Ok I am done on this and thanks for reading or not to my post , and I will leave it there ,
rushonbye Posted December 27, 2007 CID Share Posted December 27, 2007 I don't think we saw it as "fun" while defending Europe but we understood it must be done and it cost us many good men. God Bless the USA.
Roco Posted December 27, 2007 CID Share Posted December 27, 2007 Hi Rushonbye , we are still very grateful for Americas involvement in both world wars , a bit late in joining in on both , but much appreciated nontheless , I can only speak on the 2nd world war , it was already won before Americas involvement , but not to Americas taste and certainly ours in the UK , Russia was the key factor that would have finished WW2 , they took the major brunt of it all , and as a reward the west turned it's back on that nation , this isolation was the cause of the cold war that blighted the lives of a generation , and nearly started WW3, Europe having been through 2 world wars on it's home soil , has joined together to make sure that never happens again , you may misinterpret that as not being patriotic , but we are done with overt displays of armed power , and see the display of firepower as beyond Pornography , and only displayed by extremists , No insult intended , and certainly not the the brave fallen American soldiers of any conflict , ( BTW , I still attend Church services to commemorate those guys ) I certainly don't disrespect America and all it stands for , but I do worry America is becoming isolated on the world stage, every year I hope the Christian message of "Peace and good will to all mankind " might take root in the 21 century , and every year the answer is not yet , indeed "Bless The USA , I have no problems with that setiment ,
EWO Posted December 29, 2007 CID Share Posted December 29, 2007 This may have been posted before BUT we need reminding from time to time. Read this description first, and then 'play' the attached song. The song you are about to listen to is from a Las Vegas Diamond Rio concert. They received an immediate resounding standing ovation, and continue to do so every time they perform it! Everyone who loves America should be thrilled to hear this song! Although Diamond Rio has never before done a statement song, they felt compelled to record 'In God We Still Trust.' But guess what? Sadly, major radio stations wouldn't play it because it was considered 'politically incorrect'. Consequently, the song was never released to the public. So America, see what you think. If this offering speaks to your heart and you feel to share it with friends and loved ones, please do. Here In America

tommie gorman Posted December 29, 2007 Author CID Share Posted December 29, 2007 Now I just need to figure out how to capture it. I am gonna bug my country radio station about that one. That sucks that others can tell us what to listen to. I for one loved it. Haha, got it. Now if only I could get the music only so I could play it on the truck radio.(ok ok, one step at a time.) Roco Posted December 30, 2007 CID Share Posted December 30, 2007 Oh lol , Ok no fight from me on peoples religious convictions , if you got it and need it I have no problem with that , BTW you don't have to swear on the bible , I just been in court and and had to pledge to tell the truth in my own name, it would have been wrong to have done otherwise for me ,
tommie gorman Posted December 30, 2007 Author CID Share Posted December 30, 2007 and had to pledge to tell the truth in my own name I have to honestly say I have never heard of swearing to tell the truth except on a bible. Definately different.
Roco Posted December 30, 2007 CID Share Posted December 30, 2007 I have to honestly say I have never heard of swearing to tell the truth except on a bible. Definately different. I think you should check out your muslims in America , I doubt they swear on the bible , always have to smile at swearing on the bible , bet most murderers do though ? Roco Posted December 30, 2007 CID Share Posted December 30, 2007 Yes I used my name , it was the only tangable thing visible in the court , converting another's faith , do you have the right to do that , ? I guess only by example would that work , by force would only drive the divide deeper , as we can see is happening now ,IMO,
tdawnaz Posted December 30, 2007 CID Share Posted December 30, 2007 k...let's all talk about me now ...jk i'd swear on a bible...but i could just as easily swear on my soul...actually that would be tighter
