It is fine. I have seen worse on roadside billboards. And it will be interesting. They obviously have the money and the swing of things. They make things happen. Just like gamers help make more powerful computers and connection speeds.

Sparticus Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 There is nothing wrong with that Ryan. But it will be interesting to see which foremat they go with. You just need to know which player to buy! HDDVD or bluray?
Ryan314 Posted January 17, 2007 Author CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 Considering a blu ray player can cost about 1000, except for PS3. The hddvd drive for 360 is only 200 so i mean the hddvd player itself cant be too much more than 200. I believe hddvd's are higher in price though. dlewis23 Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 It doesn't matter what they are on, i'm buying that LG duel format player
Shug7272 Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 They are already releasing titles on Blu Ray, Vivid is putting them out. Truthfully I gotta try one out, but it will probably be a one time deal and back to the internet. I think by the end of the year HD DVD will be dead. They have no real titles comming out and Blu Ray has a ton. That along with the fact there is one company making a HD DVD player and about 6 for Blu Ray not counting PS3. You cant count LG either since the dual player does not really support HD DVD, just Blu Ray. None of the HD DVD interactive features are available with the LG where as the Blu Ray is completely supported.

I remember reading somewhere that there is more porn HD-DVD's and Blu-ray disks then actually movies. shug you wont be disappointed when you try it out, it looks a hell of alot better

Shug7272 Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 http://gear.ign.com/articles/755/755809p1.html Heres some more info, the LG player as it stands now would not even be able to fast forward or rewind and cant access the additional content. All that for 1200 bucks, I think not.

ghostmaster Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 From what I understand, visually, the HD-DVD looks better than the Blu-Ray, as the Blu-ray over saturates colors. But, the main reason Blu-Ray might win is because of all the companies owned and supported by Sony Pictures. In a few years, all the movies will be on flash drives, or downloaded. Maybe 10 years, not a couple. A high def movie compressed with no extras can hit 20 gigs easy. Who the hell is gonna download that, not many people. Maybe flash drives but I fail to see the advantage really.

ghostmaster Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 Its all the extra BS they put on DVDs that makes them so big. All anyone wants is the movie, and maybe the deleted scenes. A 1080P movie could hit 20Gigs, depending on how long it is. I said a few years, not a couple. The advantages of the flash chips are longevity, read/write access, security, less moving parts, cheaper (will be soon anyways). It's just part of the natural progression of data storage. Shug7272 Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 This will not happen for at LEAST 8-10 years. Of course that is my opinion but you can quote me on it if it comes sooner. Americans like tangible things. Its a Microsoft dream, but it aint happening soon. And yea D you are right, but 720p is not true HD as you know 1080p is (may not be a big deal but in 3 years ALL the new tvs will be 1080p and that is what people will want). Everybody wants the extras or the special bonus dvd's wouldnt sell so well. So if you take a good HD movie in true hd 1080p with extras, 7.1 sound etc.. which people WILL want if they are paying for the movie and not ripping it from a torrent site, your not gonna get a file that is 4 gigs probably at least 20 gig. Buying movies on Flash would be great but you are gonna have to convince people to buy a NEW high def player for the flash unless you only want to be able to watch it on our comp. You will have to show them significant advantages for the consumer and I dont think they are there.
ghostmaster Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 You're right, it's not going to happen over night. But the days of optical and magnetic storage are numbered whether it happens now, or 20 years from now. Just look at how much has changed in 5 years. Look at how the internet is being used compared to 5 years ago. Music is slowly moving more towards the digital format, and movies will follow suit. Television and telephone have also began to shift in this direction. The problem is the slow deployment of broadband across the country. When we are all "connected", you'll see the shift happen. Special bonus DVDs only sell more because it has the word "special" on it. Most people just watch the movie, and that's it, unless ofcourse it's something you are a huge fan of. (like behind the scenes porn lol) Back to the topic: I don't give a flying crap either way, cause I aint buying either one until one of them becomes the standard. I dont much care either but sense I will have a PS3 I hope for Blu Ray to win so I dont need a new player. You are right, it will happen EVENTUALLY. I use caps there to stress the point I dont think it will be anytime soon. Two reasons, one (this is a repeat) Americans like tangible things. Second reason, anytime there is a HUGE shift in technology the "experts" always get it wrong time table wise. HDTV was suppose to boom shortly after 2000 and I still cant get but a few crappy channels. The best you can do is get Dish Network if you want some channels. I just dont see it happening SOON. When you see a place like Japan get something like this going, then it is probably coming, but if they dont have it, with the network they have in place, I dont think we will.
