tbaker397 Posted June 30, 2005 CID Share Posted June 30, 2005 The Scientific Atlanta modems are sweet, Cox is using them in the 9/1 and 15/2 test areas I believe. Motorola Surfboard 5100 or a 5120 are also good ones.
REV0LUTI0NIZED Posted June 30, 2005 CID Share Posted June 30, 2005 I also recommend the Scientific-Atlanta DPC2100 Series, it's an extremely good Cable Modem. I always get good speeds results with this modem. I would also recommend the Motorola Surfboard SB5100, I wouldn't recommend the SB5120. :::.. FallowEarth Posted July 1, 2005 CID Share Posted July 1, 2005 Toshiba PCX 2200-2600 are solid modems, also the PCX 5000 for wireless...Ambit makes solid modems, Thompson RCA DCM 425 is good.
dlewis23 Posted July 1, 2005 CID Share Posted July 1, 2005 i Have used 3 different modems Some motorola Toshiba PCX 2000 and a Dlink DCM 202 and the dlink DCM is by far the best. i have had it for 3 months now and i have never had to reset it, reboot it, or power cycle it ever. And its fast. + its compatable with all ISP that use docsis 1.0 1.1 or 2.0 and its not that expensive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16825112104

cutest Posted July 1, 2005 CID Share Posted July 1, 2005 Motorola SurfBoard SB5100 is the best one out there (my opinion) It is compatible with most of the other devices (routers and voip gizmos) I work in Voip Provider company as technical support and when even we see the customer has SB5100, its a relief to us. pitbull481 Posted July 2, 2005 Author CID Share Posted July 2, 2005 I have a Linksys BEFCMU10 and I love it... I max out my 9Mbps/1Mbps connection with Cox. i have the same one. i got it May of 2004 (last year). it was working great. now it's been messing up for the last month i might end up getting "Motorola SurfBoard SB5100". i am reading good reviews here in testmy.net, cnet.com, and other sites. i was reading about the linksys BEFCMU10 ver.2 (have now) that it only last about a year or two than the connection starts to drop

FallowEarth Posted July 2, 2005 CID Share Posted July 2, 2005 First I've heard of it too: http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/bcg/bcgprodcontent.tsp?templateId=6116&navigationId=11893&path=templatedata/cm/product/data/turbodox http://www.ti.com/sc/docs/news/2001/01203.htm EDIT: Which is better? Motorola SB5100 http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/sb5100/default.asp Motorola SB5120 http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/sb5120/ clicking 'show all' under product specs, doesn't seem to be much difference except for the nifty TurboDOX feature on the 5120....seems maybe it is more flexible. I'd say go with the 5120.
REV0LUTI0NIZED Posted July 2, 2005 CID Share Posted July 2, 2005 I would go with the SB5100 because the SB5120 gives high pings, packet loss, and if you play on line games it gives you lag.
