netmasta Posted July 31, 2005 CID Share Posted July 31, 2005 And the extra spam. You should just get a firewall and antivirus program(s) seperatly.
resopalrabotnick Posted July 31, 2005 CID Share Posted July 31, 2005 thought this topic was a joke thread. but seriously, aol, just like m$, is not quite as bad as its reputation. that being said, why is aol pretty well protected against malware? A: no self respecting virus/worm will propagate on its network.

netmasta Posted July 31, 2005 CID Share Posted July 31, 2005 I hear different "official" numbers all the time. Earlier this year I heard 34 Million, then a few months I heard 22 Million, so who knows. Their numbers seem to vary widely each time I hear them

jws21 Posted August 1, 2005 CID Share Posted August 1, 2005 insane speeds...what package are you on?
FallowEarth Posted August 1, 2005 CID Share Posted August 1, 2005 pretty nice speeds & aol is included with rr now http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,13980841 Exactly. But the highest package that I'm aware of is the 8/512. Those speeds are definitely exceeding that cap.

xs1 Posted August 1, 2005 CID Share Posted August 1, 2005 Reverse DNS: cache-rtc-ad03.proxy.aol.com Doubt thats a rr.com connection at all. My guess is someone used his webserver remotely to test.
resopalrabotnick Posted August 1, 2005 CID Share Posted August 1, 2005 number of aol victims between 20 and 34 million is probably due to: low number 20 mil: people that actually subscribe to it. the additional 14 mil for the 34 mil number: number of people that made the mistake of putting the free cd in their drive and can't get it off their comp, don't want it, don't use it, but get a bill from aohell anyhow because they made their mistake of giving their cc number when the setup asked. humorman Posted August 1, 2005 CID Share Posted August 1, 2005 I heard when I was learning some hacking that aol is safer then any other provider. It said if you have aol then forgot hacking lol. And that aol users are more secure from hacking almost impossible to hack. I am not sure if it is bs or what?
php Posted August 1, 2005 CID Share Posted August 1, 2005 Maybe they are safer, but AOL installs its own extra crap and popup software... and it's almost impossible to get rid of...

milchama Posted August 2, 2005 CID Share Posted August 2, 2005 AOL sucks. why would you pay extra on top of your Broadband fees to browse with AOL? Security, that is what firewalls are for and some of those are free.
