THis might be an obvious one but the time window to edit posts kinda breaks the LIST topics where OP updates whenever...

Possibly allow it to be infinite edits on an OP's post? infinite time window?

and apparently when I edited this post it created a new topic -_(\

CA3LE got a reaction from mudmanc4 in Coast to Coast Multithread Speed Test
Update: The Multithread Speed Test doesn't just open more threads, it can also test servers simultaneously and return a single result.  Get a single number for a world-wide speed test.  Select one or all of TestMy.net's servers.

    Hey testers!

I came up with something new yesterday. It came together better than I had imagined. It's actually a twist on an old technique I used to use.

So, the normal download speed test streams the data, as you would read a document.  This new method loads elements that are able to be simultaneously downloaded, in a way that allows your browser to max out.

I achieve speed far greater using this method, confirmed by readings from the controller. It taxes my connection so hard it causes my Pandora to pause and skip. That's when you know you're pulling all it's got (confirms that I'm pulling the same speeds I get from Usenet and torrents... still 50 Mbps below what Cox advertises for my package). The speed builds faster and is held longer... but I've also seen in my test bed where the opposite is true, the configuration and the browsers optimization and performance come into play for sure.  If for example the browser is only set to allow a limited number of concurrent connections, then performance on this test will obviously suffer.

This in no way is meant to replace the download test I have now, they are two totally separate methods and can both be used in their own way to find issues. They're both correct... they just request the information in different ways so the result is different. The normal test finds things that multithreading would hide. The information from the multithreaded test can be just as useful. In my opinion comparing the results of the two test types can lead users to discover and resolve more issues easier.

Okay, I blabbed for long enough. For anyone that stuck around... Turn on multithreading - switch the server or follow that link again to turn it off.  This only works with the download speed test and disables TiP when enabled.

Realize that this method could be more resource intensive. That's the point to a test like this... you want to tax your resources. It crashed one of my VPS servers early in its development... although I haven't seen a problem since. Having said that, I also saw zero issues when testing on desktop, tablets and smartphones. Test with this option and let me know if you find anything weird.

There are hundreds of devices we know this, just a poll to find out what your using.

Whatever is not listed, just post it and we'll ad it, chances are there will be a lot added - so let us know what needs added.

I had a similar issue some years ago.  Was related to the GPU card not be seated well or possible slot, card edge problem.  When my wife dusted off the computer, she also dusted off the rear cables and found out just slight movement of the video cable caused the problem as it was moving the internal card.  Cleaning the card edge, and reseating the card corrected the problem.  Also was carefull not to move cables in rear of computer anymore and did my own dusting....lol.

Encountered the same problem, but after some experimentations I've got it... I'm sure that you've disconnect and reconnect your router from a PC to another PC  that is the main cause of your problem. First to do is copy the IP address, subnet,DNS servers, all the info from your working Internet PC,then copy it to your current PC, Last is to clear your browsers cache and history... Then SOLVED!

Yes, twitch.tv. Your speed test is much more reliable when choosing a proper upload speed.

CA3LE reacted to Cesar Colondres in XBox Live Speed test question
You know I always wondered what the up/download speeds were from my XBox since I'm running wirelessly (not by choice). Well when M$ put a IE app on the XBox I was happy. So I found two HTML5 speed testers. testmy.net and speedof.me.
I did the test then to my surprise got a 1.5 MB download and a 2.7 MB upload results (average). I was surprised because I pay for 25 MB down and 20 MB up. So I decided to do the same test from my wireless laptop in the same room in the same spot my XBox is placed. I got 23 MB down and 19 MB up (on average). This test is from CA to a server in TX. So why the big difference in speeds??? while I also know ping is a major factor when it comes to game play, streaming video does not rely mostly on ping, its all about bandwidth. So I ask... does anybody know why the XBox speeds are so slow??? BTW before people ask; the XBox has a port opened (port forward) by itself. All games show my port as "open".

Also I don't see a ping result, am I overlooking something?

I really appreciate your website. Before I moved my upload speed was around 5Mb/s according to the most popular flash site and was also the speed I was paying for. When I live streamed video I had trouble with a max bitrate of 3.5Mb/s. Your speed test put my connection at a stable upload of just over 3Mb/s. When I adjusted my video upload bitrate to 3Mb/s all my issues went away.

I've been recommending the website to all fellow streamers and gamers who would like to have a better idea of where their speeds really are.

Not sure if it helps...I'm in Canada and just bought a Thomson (Technicolor) DCW775. I's Docsis 3.0 and 4 port GB and wireless n router (dual band but not simultaneous).

I'll see how it behaves as I already own a Linksys E4200v1 running Tomato which I plan to continue to use as my primary router...but so far the THomson seems decent.
One thing I think is missing (big time) is QoS...but then again, bandwidth is plentiful with channel bonding.

i've never replaced a modem like that but any cable modem you can get that does not have the router built in will be just fine... i don't believe the arris modem you linked has the telephony built in, the motorola one does though

as for routers i'm really liking d-link and netgear at the moment i am far from impressed with the linksys stuff that has been coming out recently and i haven't had much success with belkin in years if your wanting me to help you look up some models of routers i'd be happy to in the morning just let me know how many devices your looking to connect what kind of range you might want and your budget

I was hoping when I called for geniuses that all of you would come running!    I have talked to certain ones here in the past that were very knowledgeable. (right about now your saying to self, I don't remember talking to him) Anyway, CA3LE and others helped back then. I am on Comcast and they have been giving me that Black Tower of Doom, the Stupinity all in one telephony, modem and router. Have been through 4 and may need a 5th depending on the next few days results with a change. I have been approportioned the 50mbps on the ethernet. Of course most of you know now that they are giving out ridiculously poor routers. I think this is by design as they know that 10's of 100's of these could be present in one housing complex and they'd be "walking" all over each other. So they make the radio's very poor.

From talking here in the past I'd decided to go 3rd party devices. Now as far as I know there is no device that has all 3 operations. However there are modems that have telephony. So you buy the router and bridge them. I was given several suggestions for the modem/telephone

No real suggestions on which device to be a good dual band router. So I am looking for suggestions here. If you followed the first link you'll see they are out of stock. I think a lot of folks are getting the same idea and I'm concerned that when brother gets up here from FL in a month or more (he's my techie) I may have trouble finding good equipment in this area. We are not a city. We about mid-state DE and while we have a number of good stores, no guarantee that the local Best Buy will have it, then it's a 45 or 60 mile trip to the next Best Buy.

So I'd like to get my equipment on scene here for when brother arrives and not have to go shop. So I'm looking for anyone that has the same service and replaced the same Arris DOCCIS 3.0  modem/router/telephony black Xfinity tower I will be replacing.

All help will be greatly appreciated and I will check the Genius box next to your name for your reputation here.   I wouldn't lie!  Jack  ":-D
