cif ; Are you sure your freind knows how to move the jumper to reset the CMOS? If he did this correctly is it possible the motherboard battery went bad while it wasn't being used? If thats not the problem then the BIOS needs to be flashed so you need to DL the correct one for the motherboard for your freind If you no longer have it.

I did some checking on the serial port latency What I found was about 26ms but thats each direction so 52ms for round trip. This is on tracert & latency http://www.modemsite.com/56k/backbone5.asp

trogers: The link article was very interesting I haven't looked into the Apple Geoport telecom adapter but it would definatly work better than a modem if it is usable over the internet.Meaning if ISP's & phone companies would support it.It would really improve dial-up speed especially for gaming & small data transfers. I need to read it again but I think 2 modems would share the same 100ms so speed would increase as well as capacty but you would get the 100ms no matter what .

bonkers ;Sorry I didn't mean to jump in on your topic before you got some help.I just thought you might like to see a comparison of the reverse tracert test,Even in the tracert from youe location the highest latency was 87ms in mine there were a few 200+ms hops. If you have done the tweaks & tests in the stickys & have the right Cablenut file for your connection I don't know if there is much more you can do.

wingzero2309:To start experience is the best teacher.I was taught to drive a stick by my grandfather on a non-synchronized 4 speed with the first gear a granny gear at 10.I have also been to professional truck driving school & I have driven semis for here to California & back.So much for credentials. 1. Start slow in as little traffic as possible 2.Easy with the clutch& when you push it in remember to let off the accelerator. So the engine doesn't over rev. 3.Easily push the accelerator as you begin to let out the clutch. 4.As previously said practice taking off & stopping. When you get good at this you can start using the rest of the gears(speeds). 5.For a beginning manual driver do not take the RPM over 3000. 6.Once in gear & rolling the car will accelerate & decelerate much like an automatic in low as long as the clutch is engaged .Try speeding up to 3000 & then leaving it in gear & decelerating to idle speed.then back up to 3000 again .just to get the feel of this. 7. Once you get this down smooth try stepping on the brake to slow the vehicle without pushing in the clutch.Until your speed is down to about idle .This will teach you that you can step on the brake at speed without pushing in the clutch.Of course if you don't push in the clutch when you get slow enough it will kill the engine. 8 This will help as you begin to learn to downshift to slow the car. 9.Watch the tach but also learn to listen to the engine & feel it through the steering wheel. In the beginning leave the stereo off. I won't go into speed shifting or how to shift without pushing in the clutch except to takeoff by using the tach.No matter what anyone tells you about doing this its hard on the synchronizers no matter how smooth it feels. The best I can do online

wyantm06: First was she connecting before the XP Pro install? 2.Why is she connecting from a disk instead of the dial-up connectoid? 3.Have her connect a telephone to the wall jack to verify the phone line is working& check it with the phone cable the is plugged into the internal modem. 4. If possible have her check to see if the modem is well seated in its socket. If shes technecally challenged better not have her do this . 5.In the device manager remove the modem or modems & the network adapters. Then reboot & let Windows install them again.Since the DELL drivers have been installed it should detect the modem & Dial-up adapter . And install the best one it detects. 6.Do you know the com port the modem is using? There could be an interupt conflict So you may have to change the interupt usually easiest to move the modem to another slot. Worst case something fried the modem Internal modems are pretty cheap so maybe a new modem it should have its own driver disk.

Hi all;I will move this to the dial-up section.I just wanted it in the general section first for more response. When you select "Bring up terminal after dialing" in Dial-up Networking you get the screen in the screen shot below. It is supposed to show the MTU of the ISP .Everytime I have done this it shows 1524 Does anyone know why?
-
tommie gorman : Try PM for a request instead of starting a new topic. No problem though I will leave this for a little while then delete Swimmer has already moved the Dial-Up topic
-
wyantm06 : You can try this System Device manager under Display Adapter highlight & remove the display adapter.Next under Monitors highlight & remove the monitor. Then reboot & let Windows detect the ones you have plugged in.If this doesn't work then you probably have an onboard graphics chip that you need the specific driver for. You could try to update the display adapter driver to :(Standard display types) under manufacturers & Standard Display Adapter(VGA) under models in the update driver wizard.
-
asubaseball727 : A lot of programs come with their own uninstaller;if you remove one of these with control panelthey almost always leave part of the program behind. Some are easy to find in the StartPrograms then the program has an uninstaller in the list for that program.Sometimes the uninstaller is in the program file for the program. The best thing to do is reinstall the program & look for the uninstaller & use that to do the uninstall. If it just doesn't have an uninstall then control panel is the best you can do.& then hunt for left over files.

ok, i have tried everything and looked everywhere.
cholla replied to t1wireless's topic in All Dial-up
t1wireless:One test for static just dial 1 & listen if your line sounds clear then the static isn't bad.Do you hear any cross talk(from other peoples lines)? Its best to use a hardwired phone for this sometimes remote or portable phones pick up cross talk through their antenna & you may be hearing a neighbor this way. I haven't tried this but I've seen it suggested that you complain to your phone company that you hear static(even when you don't) & sometimes they switch you to a different loop.Maybe even check their line to your house. -

t1wireless : Interesting the s91=15 was in the s-register commands for your modem It may not have been compatable with your ISP.Heres some more information that may be helpful. The ATcommand link is long almost tmi but very complete. +ms=11,0 disable V.92 the setting I found had small letters & it looks like the s register commands should use small letters too. This is your chipset: DI3652 Digicom Internal Modem Specially this: ESS This is a link to the AT & s-register commands for this modem. http://ask.americas.creative.com/wwenglish/modems/at_ess.htm#page64 This is the auto update: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/softwareupdate.asp?nSUFlag=1&sDest Url=http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/&hdAllProduct=1&LangID=1033&hdDspLangID=1033 This is the driver for your modem: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?DriverLang=1033&searchString=di3652-1&Image1.x=33&Image1.y=9

wrc :Glad you found the problem.I got mine from the Agnitum site in the first place.
-
t1wireless ;On mine I have a V92 icon you just right click it & turn off the V92.Thats just the software for this modem that installs it this way.As you found there are extra initilization commands to do this in some modems. Do you have XP? I'm not sure where to find the Modem init string in the XP registry. In ME,98SE &98 its here: HKLM/system/current control set/services/class/modem/000 select the init key this is my main modem string. This is the string to add W3 or W2 to. The extra settings & driver settings are in the Settingsinit key. This is the way my modem string is in the registry: AT&FE0&C1&D2&K4%N9V1W3S0=0<cr> main ATS7=60S30=0M0N3%C3&K4B0N1X4 driver & Windows set settings ATS91=15S10=50S25=100S11=50 Extra settings string (It doesn't have the "AT" in the extra settings window but shows it this way in the registry) Did you try the other settings I suggested?
-
wrc ; this is a screen shot of the version I have .It is free as long as you don't update to the next version. In the other screen shot mine doesn't have outpost office firewall just outpost firewall. You can access it from your "program files" folder usually in drive C: or the drive your Windows is in.In there go to the Agnitum folder you should find an outpost.exe file double click on it that should put it in the tray .If this works you should be able to click the icon & get the outpost window. At least this works in my OS.
-
For current ones : Still Standing .For one thats not a sitcom but sometimes funny House. For the old rerun ones : MASH,Cheers, & Seinfeld.I could keep listing.
-
wrc; I'm going to put a screen shot of my settings .From the start menu select Outpost Firewall Options pulldownGeneral make sure all 3 are checked under miscellaneous
