  1. Hi jim2006:This may have been what you meant by topics but if you go toTestMy.net Community .The line below your picture & above the topic with a folder besise it click it .At the bottom of that page there is a members online box.If thats what you meant by topics then you already knew how to get there. It would be nice to have this at the bottom of all pages though.
  2. Hi jim2006: I agree on the respect for CA3LE .his STOP was at 8;49 PM 1/18/2005 at least this is what search turned up for me.The post with the "Fucking lame" Came at 7:36 AM 1/19/2005 this member must have missed CA3LE's STOP request. If CA3LE made it again after the above time I missed it. Cholla
  3. Hi netmasta : I appreaciate the response I would normally ignore it.In this case I could not do that.I would have to be selective on the moderator I choose to report it to.
  4. Hi all: Not to start anything again. One member had this opinion of me "Fucking lame" I will leave that members identy out of this. Any other members that think I don't hold my own in the forum?I usually don't use profanity it's not my style.I am only including it here as a quote.I couldn't use the quote button because of the location of the post. Which way does this member prefer it ?No more "excrement" started if that was your goal why did you resort to firing the above quote at me or at least my actions? I needed to start a new post there was no other opportunity to reply. If i had been PMed with this I would have awnsered by PM & left this out of the forum. One on One so to speak. So is this lame too. Cholla So I would like to ask the rest of the forum members do you think this is a description of me?
  5. I will give you the simple way to backup the registry for a windows 98 se.I don't know how close this is to XP.Go to your DOS screen.type in scanreg you get a pop up that says your registry has already been backed up today would you like to back it up again.Yes or No. To acess the registry backup go to DOS type "scanreg /restore"( with the space & forward slash; without quotation marks. scanreg restore will give a list of scanreg options. This is only a list options must be entered with forward slash.Once you have entered scanreg /restore you will get a blue screen with the registry backups choose the one you want to restore the most current one usually works best older ones sometimes don't work. You have to navigate in this screen with your tab key & space bar.I know you were asking about Xp & this is for windows 98 se . 6. Thank you CA3LE: You have made your decision .you may have made it elsewhere in the forum & I missed it .The one here is concise& to the point.I'm sure you & the reverend's discussion involved a lot more than the forum members know.Surely there were contractual agreements about the new server( I am not asking about the contractual agreement ;that's none of my business.) . If there weren't something to think about CA3LE. You are right enough. Cholla
  7. I will let it stand as is I would say it is pretty neutral .However If CA3LE wants to delete it hes the boss. I have no problem with him deleting this or any other post on his site. As long as a post is civil no one should have any problem with it.And a forum needs a certain freedom of speech or it's not a forum. Problems only occur when it leaves the adult level Cholla
  8. Ca3LE: I was off line most of the day & missed the war that got started.Your the boss so put a stop to it.Make what ever decision you think is best for testmy.net then stick to it. No one ever said being the boss is always easy.AS i see it what ever happened there are 4 decisions only my opinion .1. Ask the reverend back & tell him & s1 they will just have to get along or not be moderators.2.Let it stand as it is now with s1 here & the reverend gone if you do that you may have to side with s1 in this to make it work.3.Ask the reverend back & give s1 his walking papers if you do that you may have to side with the reverend to make it work.4.give them both their walking papers. So be the boss take over the situation or a problem like this WILL DESTROY A GOOD WEBSITE & FORUM. This is my advice & opinion take it or leave it. Cholla
  9. Hi all: If you try this tweak please back up your registry first. This is a tweak for adding additional settings to the maximum speed pull down in modem properties /general tab. This is for windows 98 se.I have not tried it on other systems so I don't know if it would work for them. In the registry at HKLM/system/current control set/ services/class/modem/000. The 000 would be the modem you are applying the tweak to.If you have more than 1 modem check to see if you need to do this for each one. In the right pane at this registry key there is a binary value named "Properties" left click it to bring it up. In the binary values window in the fourth row from the 7th to the 10th digit you should find a value like "C2 01" or "84 03"delete these.Put this setting back in the 4th row 7th to 10th digit "10 0E" without the quotes. This would also be the 24th to the 27th byte to help you make sure these are in the correct location.Close the registry. You should restart your computer now. Then go to the modem properties box pulldown & select the speed you need. There are 3 locations of the modem properties box to check. The setting in one does not reset them all.One is located in the control panel. One is in system properties/device manager/modem/ properties/modem tab & one is in dial-up networking/the modem conection you are setting/properties/configure/general tab.You should restart your computer now.
  10. I wasn't trying to exclude anyone just trying to get a few other people that test with dial-up to join the forum & post scores. This is my best one today. I'l add a couple more. Two in a row the same speed First one I was not logged in the second one I was. I doing some tweaking & testing this morning
  11. Howdy Y'all: Heres one from Texas I don't know if its still on the books I haven't checked for a long time but it used to be anyway." It is illegal to fly(pilot) an airplane with your spurs on" I wonder how big a problem this was? Cholla
  12. I went ahead and took the test even if it is large for dial-up .Dial-up almost always slows down on larger downloads. The SmarTest
  13. Hi reverend : I will try the foil to see if it makes the reception even better.I bet Radio shack would have the right glue .Might be awhile for me to get to it since I am not having any problem with the dish.I just like to make things work better when I can. Your right it wasn't a survivor that was presenting the class & he didn't have one for his guest speaker either. So far I have been fortunate with electricity only lightly bit but sometimes that is all it takes. My dad who was an apliance repairman ( like the Maytag one but a lot busier) was baddly bitten by 220V working on a dryer .the burn took a long time to heal. But I guess thats not too bad for doing it for 35 years. 14. Hi reverend: I already had this installed on my os. Java 2 runtime enviorenment ,SE
  15. Hi speedy final: Those are the first 2 tests in my post just in reverse order.Try the links.I just use cut & paste right now .The reverend gave me a program called Ifranveiw that I installed but I haven't played with it enough to use it for copying tests yet.Copy & paste works quick & takes up less space. If anyone thinks the results have been faked by using c&p let them .I know I don't fake my tests & thats what counts. You have not acused me of faking but at least one member has implied it .If I was going to do this my upload test would sure be better on the testmy.net upload test. 16. Hi reverend I know we have about ran this post into the ground hehe .I think I know why you use reverend for your user name.I think a lightning strike would put religion in the ones blessed with survivng. The "one foot trick" is probably for lower current like 125V & maybe 250V( I know it still travels at light speed) . The thing with lifting the one foot is it routes the electricity down one side of the body. This is supposed to act like a defibulator especially if it has already crossed your heart before you lift the opposite foot.It is supposed to restablish normal rythem. At least thats the info the instructer in the safety class gave.Besides if you are about to kick the bucket you need to lift one foot so you can give it a good kick.hehe I wanted to ask about the foil would this help a small dish used for TV the Dish itself IS "plastic" ii think they call it a DSS.I get good reception with it.The switch box that connects the coax to the dish and the receiver is grounded to the large conduit at my electric meter. With about a12 gauge solid copper
  17. Hi just- : I just went to the link you gave me.Most of the test are mine. You can tell my tests because the computer number always starts with 19832345 for some reason the numbers past this vary .I don't know the reason for this .May be because I have been logged out.I usuall use the 90 minute login time & sometims I have been logged out without knowing it.I usually find out when I can't access something. This is not a problem I just login again.I prefer this way in case I forget to logout. Thanks Cholla
  18. Hi reverend: If I put up a dish I like your systemof lightening rods the dual ones sound like a good idea.On old style outdoor television antennas they had what they called a lightening arrestor.I haven't looked for anything like this for a dish but I bet something like this is available .The only dish I have is a small one for television.I just use an amplified indoor antenna for local channels since neither dish service offers all of them. :idea:I did have one hint I learned in a saftey class at a garage where I was a mechanic. If you do find yourself clamped on to a wire lift the opposite foot up off the groundfrom the hand you have clamped on the wire. This allows the current to run down one side of your body so it doesn't cross your heart.I have not personally tested this nor do I plan to but it as supposed to help. :cool:Cholla
  19. Hi Microwave:I will take a look at the archives .Should I use search to find the benchmark testing?Did the tests include dial-up? :)Cholla
  20. Hi Microwave: I see you're thinking about the slow testers like me.I almost always use the smart test. But I have used the all.It never kicks me up a notch by itself. From the lone forum member with only 56K as far as I know anyway if there are others I have not been able to get them to post at least not since I joined the forum.also known as :lol:Cholla
  21. 23. Thanks again VanBuran: I will contact my ISP .Heres a definition of POP I copied for those like me who didn't know exactly what it was.2) Short for point of presence, an access point to the Internet. ISPs have typically multiple POPs. A point of presence is a physical location, either part of the facilities of a telecommunications provider that the ISP rents or a separate location from the telecommunications provider, that houses servers, routers, ATM switches and digital/analog call aggregators. If this isn't exactly correct I did copy it not write it myself. Cholla
  24. hi VanBuran: I only took this test for fun.How would I do a test from my local POP I will try that to.Just don't know how. Thanks Cholla hi Microwave: I do post tests from this site sometimes till I think some get tired of seeing them I've slowed down a little on this.I already consider testmy, net the most accurate test I have found. The others are fun when you have the time. Cholla
  25. Thanks VanBuran that probably explains the better speed some where the data is being compressed.I doubt that my modem or computer is capable of doing this.It would have to be my ISP.If they are & not charging me for it I have no complaints. :)Cholla
