That's cool, I wasn't saying that you must have a firewall. If you practice safe surfing, you will probably be OK. BTW, what is your IP address? lol Off Topic: rayray - sweet Mustang in the sig, is it a real photo, or did you come up with it?
-
I see about a 5-10% slow down when the firewall is on, but that is during a speed test. I really don't notice any slow down in a download. I (and most people) highly recommend a firewall. If you want, it is easy to disable the firewall when you want to download a large file (hopefully from a trusted source) or when you want to run a speed test. Otherwise you are sitting wide open on the web, and you won't even know who is trying to break into your machine. Just my thoughts-
-
Looks to me like you are wide open - completely visible to the internet. What ISP do you use and what firewall?
-
Nice upload Are you heading back to school CA3LE, or just on a trip?
-
Now all looks good. Will have to wait and see if stealthing port 113 affects any services.

I like to use Windows Media Encoder to record an overnight radio show. It takes some tinkering, but you can set the bitrate and the record time, etc.. Windows Media Encoder And here is another useful tool: Audacity

dlewis I use a D-link DI-524 router. So ,php, port 113 is used for some email apps? I just looked it up and it looks like d-link does not stealth port 113 by default. I am going to follow there directions on stealthing it (here), and retry the test.

Looks like I have one exposed (but closed) port, being port 113. Looking at the firewall I see nothing is open. No apps or virtual servers or anything are enabled. Guess I will work on it later.

Ahh, the Dillon mini gun, brings tears to my eyes....... Did you see the Monster Garage episode on the Discovery Channel where Jesse James got to blow the sh!t out of that car with the mini gun? Good times. EDIT: Found that one on line, too. I forgot how good it was this video kicks ASS!!! http://tutuxclan.org/chips7/DIVERS/jesse_james_kills_car.wmv

Very cool, I want 2 (at least). Found a little promotional video on an Army website: https://peosoldier.army.mil/multimedia.asp# Click the blue-ish CROWS gif at the right side of page.

Another member here recommended Audacity a while back and I downloaded it. Many usefull recording options with it, and it's FREE.. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Give it a shot, I use it to record from a Mic and from the web (like a certain radio show on the AM that I like to listen to, but it sounds better on the web).

Thanks for explaining, I was unsure what it was. I better stay away from the hub, though.
-
A HUB? Isn't that where the gang from Saved by the Bell would hang out? That crazy Screech.... OK, done being smart a$$ lol, I asume your talking about a gaming crew of some type?

I guess this is a bear to remove after looking around. Try this site for removal instructions: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43659.html

Sorry - we're posting on top of each other......

Correct, re-boot and start pressing the F8 key as the pc is booting up. When that comes up, choose 'safe mode with networking' in case you need to run online scanners. The virus should not start in safe mode. Once booted in safe mode, run your AV and spyware scanners again. Be sure they are all up to date. Try this.......
-
Hey x, first the basic question- Did you run your spyware and AV programs in Safe Mode yet?
-
This conspiracy goes much deeper than I thought. btw - I am seeing alot of Dell ads in those pages....
-
Some of those sites look pretty, albeit completely unoriginal. Testmy.org is just one nice looking page full of external links lol. I wonder if these guys get paid by Dell and OfficeMax, for example, for advertising them?
-
I stumbled upon the TestMy.net freeloading website. If you navigate to our favorite website's (testmy.net, obviously) address, but use the .com domain instead of .net, you will be delighted to find a bunch of crap advertising. (btw, I am intentionally avoiding spelling out that website as to not inadvertently direct traffic there). Nice way to take advantage of people trying to find us here for connection help and speedtests. Looks like it has been registered since July 31, 2003. I wonder how much traffic they get from here.... wow!!! I can get a free car, $25,000 cash and 3 free Razor cell phones all in one net stop!!!! -IDIOTS- Now that I think about it, I should just delete this post, it will drive traffic there. OK, I am an idiot, I am doing exactly what they want. Feel free to remove this post mods - I don't want to be of assistance to the spammer scammers....

Does anyone use a signal booster for cable internet?
dn0 replied to Blunted's topic in General Discussion
Hey Blunted, your levels look great. A signal booster will push it above the ideal receive level. So, I would recommend not using an amp, it will most likely make things worse. Also, you are tx'ing at 37, if you install this amp, you may drop down into the 20's which is too low for optimum performance. Also, wowitsjashon, your levels are just fine, too. Plenty of headroom for level fluctuations. -

Keep in mind that too much signal can be just as bad as too little. working window for Docsis modems is -15 to +15dBmV. The optimum window is -5 to +5dBmV. Every amplifier decreases the signal to noise ratio (SNR), which is generrally not a problem unless you are borderline (32dB or lower) to begin with. What are your guys signal levels, ie. Rx, TX and SNR? These are my levels, and I do have an amp in line: Downstream Value Frequency 595779700 Hz Locked Signal to Noise Ratio 36 dB (this is good, so the amp is not a problem)Power Level 10 dBmV (a little too high because of the amp) The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading Upstream Value Channel ID 4 Frequency 22000000 Hz Ranged Power Level 50 dBmV (also a little too high, but my amp does not amplify the upstream signal) Either way, there is no noticable speed increase or decrease.
