  1. Why don't you post some speedtest results (Download and Upload) and post a tracert result to testmy.net. ie: go to command prompt, type "tracert testmy.net" after prompt. Copy results and post beck here, this will help give us an idea about your connection.
  2. This might be a job for VanBuren. What does a tracert look like to SCU33ZE's IP, .s1?
  3. Looks like they are a wireless carrier, not the CATV plant extension like I thought earlier. This brochure will help explain it, SCU33ZE. http://www.vcom.com/public_dl/tp_bwindesc3.5_11.pdf
  4. This A/V sender receiver is probably your best bet, that is if you have an A/V out on your video card. Click here for an example from Radio Shack But, I would just pick up a $35 WalMart DVD player, my cheapy has been going strong for about a year now.
  5. Welcome to the forum Sounds like wireless plant extension being used. Probably your local cable company. What it does is 1 transceiver up-converts the CATV plant frequencies to the 5.8 / 5.3GHZ bands (in the US, anyways) from the CATV plant and transmits to the remote site. The remote transceiver then down-converts the signals back to the original plant frequencies and then onto a coaxial cable then to the modem. This works the same for the upstream and downstream. Works pretty slick. You can try cablenut, but it would help to know what speeds your are paying for. BTW, what is the name brand on the wireless gear? Arcwave possibly?
  6. Sweet, finally broke the 400 barrier, hopefully we can hold it.
  7. No, you would not get any higher u/l speeds. There is just a working window for the RF levels, and you are still within that window. A change in RF level does not have anything to do with the speeds, that is unless your levels are outside of the window, then you may slow down some and possibly start dropping packets, which is obviously not good.
  8. Are you sure it isn't just telling you the frequency? Your ISP broadcasts the downstream at a set frequency from their head end / hub, and it is whatever frequency they choose. The modem will not sync on any other frequency that is not specifically a Docsis channel, so the answer is you can do nothing with that option. BTW, did you already split your CATV line with the 2 way? If so, your levels still look good. If not, then your upstream power will be pushing the edge at over 54dB, but it will still work, probably without any issues. The downstream power has plenty of leaway.
  9. Try this link and read the directions for the Terayons. You may need to power cycle the modem. http://www.dslreports.com/faq/7363?navm2=7
  10. Alright, found some info for the TJ715. It should still be 192.168.100.1. It should prompt for a password at some point; password is icu4at! Give that a shot, there is a little bit more to it if it s a TJ615 model.
  11. You should not notice any difference unless your transmit or receive levels are borderline. Can you post your levels? Try http://192.168.100.1 in your browser. Motorola modems have a "signal" tab where you'll find your TX and Rx levels. A 2 way splitter will drop your receive levels by ~3.5dB and increase your TX levels the same amount. Working window for receive levels is -10 to +10dBmV (-5 to +5 optimum) and about 30dB to 50dB for the transmit levels.
  12. Thank God, I can sleep now; had me worried for weeks. "Doomsayers and Chicken Little-types can now strike "deathray from a star" from their list of possible ways to die. A new study finds that the chances of a gamma ray burst going off in our galaxy and destroying life on Earth are comfortingly close to zero...." Read the whole article from (and with credit to) Space.com HERE Too long to post it all. It is actually a little disconcerting knowing these gamma bursts exist. Very interesting article, though.
  13. That looks awesome. I wonder how many more UFO reports will come in after those things hit the air.
  14. I have not ever tried gaming on the wireless PC since it is my work PC. I am curious about the results, if I try a little gaming on it, I will let you know.
  15. Now I forced it to 1xRTT mode and here are the stats for 100 ping requests: minimum = 336ms, maximum = 998ms, average = 507ms Mare than double the echo time than EVDO mode. Now, this is Sprint and not Verizon, but hopefully this gives you some info to go on. Here is a speedtest comparison: 1xRTT: 105 Kbps or 0.11 Mbps (13kB/s) using 384k test (ouch) EVDO: 551 Kbps or 0.55 Mbps (67kB/s) using 579k test. Speeds obviously vary, I have seen days where I get over 1mbps easily. But the EVDO service is decent, the 1xRTT is pretty much excruciatingly aggravating. Hope this helps.
  16. hey drquack, do you know what technology they are using in your area? i.e: EVDO, 1xRTT, etc.. That makes a difference on my Sprint wireless service I have on my work laptop. In EVDO areas (typically in or near the city limits) I get around 250-300ms latency. In 1xRTT areas (typically rural around here) I get up to an 800ms ping time. edit: just fired up the notebook and pinged a gateway and today I am getting a 175-250ms (avg 228ms) ping time. Not bad. It is in EVDO mode, btw.
  17. Yeah, some log cabins would take just a day to fabricate from raw logs. I would see them putting it up when I drove by in the morning, and in the evening all the pieces would be stacked and ready to ship when I came by again. Those guys made it look simple, bet they wouldn't have much problem surviving in the woods, lol.
  18. Good luck with the swingset, j3grizz, pain in the butt. cholla, I used to live by a place that made the prefab log houses up in Washington state. It was interesting watching them build the house and mark the logs at their lot, then tear them back down to ship.
  19. Have 25ea 110V and 2ea 220V outlets. I was a welder for a few months about 7 years ago building semi trailers. We used Miller Invision 456 welders that were wired to a 3 phase 480V circuit. Was under a semi trailer welding on an axle assembly on a hot, sweaty day. All I remember is squeezing the trigger on the welder and next thing I know I am about 15 feet away on the concrete waking from a convulsion. Damn that hurt the joints. All was good, though. Got a good laugh with the co-workers once we knew I was fine. Bastards made fun of me for days, lol. They'd get my attention and then drop to the ground faking a convulsion.
  20. The modem, the modem, the modem is on fire...lol. I'm with you there, as long as your machine is protected.
  21. Another option may be with your local electric provider. http://ww1.oppd.com/prodsvc/resprodsvc/surgeguard.cfm They install surge protection devices on the CATV, POTS and electric inputs to the home. I have not heard of many issues with their equipment causing RF problems. This service also includes $50K warranty.

    34. Tommie, did you miss the poll?
  23. I was going to post the pics of the bull moose taken on that trip, but wasn't sure who would be offended. But screw being P.C. let's see some blood!
  24. Thanks, php, you are the man, that works perfectly. I posted a recovered full res photo from a hunting trip in NW Alberta for the hunters out there to appreciate.
  25. Thanks, Van, I have been wondering about that for a while. I am going to pick up some insulation next time I am out at the hardware/home store. Must be rough not worrying about high dew points. Today is just a normal day and the dew point is 54
