Need help for SATELLITE internet connection!!!
resopalrabotnick replied to jjb's topic in Make it Faster...
dish out of alignment due to windstorm? -
seeing as you are close to that highway connecting two towns you should see if there is coverage for a wireless data solution at your house. (i'm figuring there's cell towers to cover the 4 lane highway here...)

check on the forums and on yahoo and stuff. there might well be software or cheap hardware ways to get an xbox hd to talk to a pc since i doubt they use anything but a standard drive in there. that way you could make regular backups.

not for quite some time. (knock on wood)

nope. exact same thing. we're on US soil. we act exactly like new orleans, do nothing ourselves and kick and scream for federal aid from FEMA et al.

yes, that was my point. they being the local people responsible not the "big government" the whole thing got blamed on.

you should be an upstanding citizen and inform them of their error. or you can just wait and see what happens... -
they knew the storm was coming, they knew what would happen, why didn't they move people to higher ground? that picture of the school bus depot full of buses sitting unused in a few feet of water always comes to my mind. why weren't they used to get people the hell out days ago? and those i'm sure are not the only buses/trucks/vans left stranded...

resopalrabotnick replied to disturbed's topic in Ideas to make testmy.net better?
yeah, it got mentioned before. and i think the consensus was go to ebay if you're not giving it away for free. -

isn't the exlorer sport trac still based on the ranger? get a normal explorer. believe me, with a baby you will need the room in back to move toys, bedding, etc. around when you take the baby to the grandparents or somewhere else. (and if it rains having the cargo area covered is better than not) -
what are these strange things that go bump in the night? as for smartphone, no thanks. i have big hands, keys are too bloody small to work. i want my good ol nokia w/ the mono screen and no camera, mp3, widgets or gizmos. just a good reliable ergonomic phone with a 1.5 week runtime.

well, 3 reasons there's no xp on the box in question. 1: i have 1 1ghz p3 2: i have 256 megs of ram with which it runs stable, i need to fiddle the settings to see if i can get another 256 stick i have floating around to work with it. atm i am getting short hangups when i have it installed. no bsod or anything, just the system freezing completely for half a second or so. weird. 3: i have a license for 98se but not for xp (and shelling out a hundred bucks for the upgrade just to have xp on a secondary box...um... no. and the question wasn't stupid, it was perfectly justified. 98 is old. it isn't even supported anymore. but fully patched it's nice and stable and not too much of a resource hog. it's good enough for me.

compaqs are just like any other computer. but windows me imo is the worst windows release to date. -
ok. an ipod nano 4gig will work on a win98se machine. you need: patience lots of it. a box with xp to install itunes on to get the initial boot for the ipod (it demands this, i have found no workaround) (or a mac of course) a driver for 98. i tried a free one with no joy. redchairsoftware, the makers of anapod distribute this. the one that worked for me i got from www.98-drivers.com for 5 clams. then i used the winamp plugin swimmer mentioned on a current version of winamp. thanks to all those that helped. merry christmas and a happy new year.
-
thanks. i just found out that i need a win2k or xp machine to hook it up to to install itunes on for its first startup. then i need a driver for the ipod for win98 and then i can use that plugin i guess. i wonder if they could have made it any less backwards compatible?

thanks a lot for the info. been looking at the stuff and it seems helpful. if anyone else has any bright ideas, let me know.

is it possible to upload mp3's to an iPod nano 4GB without installing the iTunes software on the computer? (will the sucker be accessibe like just any other USB memory stick?) on one comp i don't want iTunes on the other i can't (win98se). so if anyone has done this, shout out. if anyone knows how to get iTunes to work on win98se let me know as well. as for the playlists, can those be created with another program (winamp for example) and then uploaded to the iPod? thanks a lot and Happy Holidays!
