  2. SHUGarbabe just talks tough. he is in truth a warmhearted softie. he is so nice it is almost sickening. don't let the strutting around fool you.
  3. hi to the new people, hi to the old people and hi to the young people. a shout goes out to the longtime forum members. one rule: share knowledge. everyone knows something someone else doesn't. so bring it on. and don't worry about askling stupid questions. there is no such thing. just enjoy the hell out of this place and spread the word. (ca3le is too cheap to advertise.)
  4. read the help to the character map, it describes the ways you can use it.
  5. xp (and also other win versions, just somewhere else) start, all programs, system tools, character map. read the help there for simple instructions.
  6. i like to call myself a native speaker of both and would choose english over german any day of the week. as for hard to learn, anyone here tried their hand at chinese or japanese? hm?
  7. if you want to keep her off the net use this handy tool on her comp. http://www.fiftythree.org/etherkiller/
  8. take a look at dell of course. for 712 you get a p4 dual core, 1 gig ram, 19 inch screen, dvd burner, 160 gig hdd. graphics is onboard but it will take a pci express. it includes a windows xp home and works 7.0 (which is enough to buy an upgrade instead of retail office) add the grahics card you want to that and you still have money to buy their 3 year service plan. you can add nice speakers to it for good price. do not upgrade ram on their offers, they are expensive but you can add a gig of newegg ram. and if you want a printer dell offers awesome deals. i am planning on buying new comp soon and i am getting a color laser network printer for 238 bucks with it.
  9. maybe you should take your chair's leg off the network cable...
  10. hm. a tribute to whom? is there such a thing as a former AOL member? isn't their policy upon attempted account termination the use of any and all means to prevent this? find me a former AOLer and i will gladly pay my respect.
  11. That means you will need cablenut filesfor all the connections available in your area to be able to see if dthey need a tweak or not.
  12. roco, i send people like that to dell.com, help them choose a package and then charge em for setup and instruction. any hardware troubles and i have them call dell tech support, they sort it out.
  13. hm, i can use a comp for my 2 year old to play with to keep him off this one.
  14. thanks.
  15. almost. this needs to be removed from between the th and 5th paragraph: sorry for the inconvenience.
  16. and remember, if this is going to ne your primary source of income keep in mind tat most businesses take about 2 years to break even after startup. so you will eed plenty of savings. if it is going to be something on the side then you will still have startup costs. figure those into your budget.
  17. in a night to remember i accidentally pasted part of the article twice. someone delete the duplicate paragraphs please. thanks.
  18. fuggedaboudit add a few hundred clams to the price of the pda and get a cheap laptop. much more grunt than the pda, a real keyboard and mouse for working with documents and decent storage capacity. with a pda you will need a desktop as a base. and look at the screen of a digital camera. do you want to create/edit documents on something that size?
  19. add onelink pr to that list
  20. if the psu is ok and its fan is ok there is no need to replace it. you can buy an additional fan and install that. i like the rolls-royce turbofans, they have many nice features. Unique three-shaft design provides a tailored solution for the optimum combination of performance and economics Lowest risk, highest value solution for customers. Blisk technology delivering module weight savings of 15 per cent, aerodynamic efficiency improvements and improved lifecycle costs 3rd generation swept fan - proven on the Trent 900 and Trent 1000 to give improved performance whilst reducing noise and weight 3rd generation contra-rotation of the high pressure system, significantly improving performance and efficiency Low hub tip ratio fan system Internal cooling air management Incorporating the latest noise and emissions reduction technology and exceeding all current and proposed environmental legislation
  21. the psu has a fan inside (except for some very rare and expensive units) to cool both itself and the rest of the computer.
  22. you can take this opportunity to buy a bigger and better psu. upgrade!
  23. it would in theory work, since nothing is broken. practically it would be about as dead as a treestump sice nothing is supplying the thing power. (hence the name power /SUPPLY/ unit) the psu is a transforer that turns your mains electrical supply, 120 V at 60 Hz AC in the US, into the 5, 3.3 and 12 Volt that the computer uses. it actually transforms that into some other voltages it needs, the three above are just what the PSU supplies.
  24. the there is so many wires part to the fan... are we talking about a fan or a power supply (which has a fan in it)? no, i don't want to sound condescending, i couldn't find a better way to put that. it's just that i have never seen a fan about which i would say "so many wires", but a psu i would put in that category. it's just i can't see what you're doing, so i have to ask you to clarify.
  25. maybe for a million bucks i would want the aohell stuff installed. imnsho aohell is almost as bad as google.
