  1. do you mean you added a router when you say you bridged your modem? if so, then the connection is still dropping but you don't see it anymore because the router immediately reconnects when it happens. that could explain the changing ip. have you talked to tech support about your problems? the hanging connection when the phone rings means that (depending of how you have filters set up un the line) one or more of them is bad, allowing signals intended for the phone to leak into the high freq area of the dsl.
  2. that depends. did you buy a one or a 2 license package. if it is a one license package, then you are violating the eula. you are also breaking the law. if you say you installed both pc's from the same disk with likely the same key then i would say you are running afoul of their copy protection.
  3. remember the average is not of your connection speed but of all of verizons connections tested here. what are you paying for, meaning how much should you be getting? and what are your test results?
  4. just fooling? why, i'd never!
  5. to sum it up, the possible problems far outweigh the possible few percentage points gained in speed. grab her comp and let it run folding@home for the summer or something. use it as a secondary comp. (just be sure that all her school work is backed up before doing something with it. really sure.
  6. i pay i think 8 euros a month for 250 megs of space, 200 1 gig mail accounts with a combined max of 20 gig and i thin 5 gigs of transfer. when i compare that with the us one i weep. yeah, i should move to the us one. just need someone to front for me. don't know about their bandwidth guarantees, e-mail em and ask. (best way to check their support.)
  7. as far as offers go 1and1 has the best bang for the buck. the amount of space and email addys you get is almost immoral. the only reason i don't have them is because i haven't gone through the trouble of finding someone in the 50 states to act as a billing contact, which they require. just, you are in germany? 1und1 is pretty good there, i actually still have a package with them. but they are far more expensive than the us daughter.
  8. does the 22 minute time renew after each edit? then i could edit it every 20 minutes until the person i flamed (not that i would ever do such a thing ) complained about the flame and then remove it...
  9. just a note. if some cam looks into your bedroom window it's your own fault. you can have them reprogram a camera that has a view of your windows. since the cameras are intended only for surveillance of public, not pubic, space they have to blank your windows out. this is done by placing a digital overlay over the windows in the cameras controller. whenever the camera pans to a view with a blanked out window in view that window is then automatically blanked by the cameras controller. since it is done at that level nowhere is there footage recorded or transmitted without the blankout.
  10. they are both dell boxes right? so call the dell tech support or email em and see what they say. then again they might tell you to go ahead and swap em to have em both burn out to sell 2 new boxes if the warranty is gone...
  11. g'day mate! nice link!
  12. i /was/ referring to frequently posting ones.
  13. to be honest the dropped packets are the norm here. i have connection issues due to them having (from what the tech told me) only 30 minutes of backup power at one location that they have routers. so every time it rains (and often when not) and they have power outages of more than 30 minutes my modem says it's synced (as the local node still has power) but the connection is dead since the routers go to sleep. as for erratic speeds, i get them too, although the speeds have become more stable and actually over cap. it's when part of their net dies that everything goes to hell. either slow or nothing at all. the scary thing is i'm getting used to a few short net outages.a day.
  14. seeing as your testing from jamaica your result looks pretty good. dsl is usually capped pretty much right where the advertised speed is supposed to be. so i doubt any amount of tweaking would bring much improvement. plus, your connection isn't that fast that fiddling with the receive window would make much difference. is your upload as close to your cap as your download? and what os are you running?
  15. nah, just perform a driveectomy on hers and stick his in. might have to reactivate windows, but so what.
  16. just went through the faq. well worth reading. interesting options in there. incidentally it links to dslreports.com for the speedtest. i wonder what would need to be done for them to link to the testmy.net one...
  17. you are so unhip it's a wonder your legs don't fall off. myspace is da shizzle, fool! it's the 133735t thing since AIM. you gotta have myspace, otherwise you're not hip to the groove of the new millenium. da radical word will just pass you by and leave you by the wayside. or not.. but why risk it... :haha:
  18. suggestion. grab her box, shove your drive into it. done. and much easier.
  19. comparison testing with a rolling start has one real world aspect though: passing. although this is more a factor in europe where trucks have lower speed limits than cars on both overland roads and interstates it is usual to test a cars acceleration from 60 to 100 km/h and 80 to 120 km/h (about 35 to 60 and 50 to 70 mph). usually these tests are run in the higher gears (the gear used is usually specified) to give a feel for how much grunt the car has when just cruising along and then passing a vehicle.
  20. i just found out they only let you skip songs a certain number of times per hour. if you reach that number of skips you have to wait till an hour passes from the first one. edit and you can add more artists songs to an existing station. just combined black sabbath with village people type music. interesting mix! (use the guide us button at bottom of player window)
  21. www.pandora.com you pick an artist song you like and they give you a playlist of similar songs. ad supported or subscription. neat.
  22. golden oldies...
  23. thanks, i'll let my better half know you said so. and i second the motion. happy mothers day. (albeit the number of them on this forum is in the low single digits, right?
  24. your sis doesn't know much about comps, does she? "go ahead and pull parts from my box, just put them back later..." :haha:
