  2. to keep it legal how about a computer science class project setting up a server that hosts the files a student would want to be able to access from home that deals with all the security issues and stuff.

  4. From the highly reliable news source Al Jazeera Al Jazeera speaks the truth! repent infidel! anyhow. like i said. norwegian.
  5. on another note, how about you ask roco if he can help you find a nice citroen 2cv. seats 4, has an acceleration. has a top speed. has almost no displacement. has 2 cylinders. should cost practically no insurance. and to top it off it is a convertible, more fun to drive than you can imagine and gets great gas mileage. plus it is a cute car, chicks will dig it.
  6. good. at least then noone can complain about spamming.
  7. not since yesterday. for months. in fact it has improved some lately. the node here used to disconnect from their net. the modem would be synced but no traffic got through. then you would at least get a dns resolution but no real data. then slow data. regular performance up to the modems cap was rather sporadic.
  8. cholla, while driving a stick is a good skill to have if you need to rent a moving van or somesuch for a daily driver i would always go for the automatic tranny. traffic jams and such are just so much nicer with that than with a stick...
  9. not our troops as in us troops though. the way to amarillo (not armadillo) was done by brits and the other ones were norwegians.
  10. peeps. good catch on the cpu fan.
  11. after making sure all the vents are clean make sure that the box is not in a place where airflow to and from the system is impeded by furniture. (don't shove a comp into a cubbyhole in your desk. bad idea.) lower the ambient (room) temp, make sure it's not hit by sunlight, move it into the stream from an a/c vent if possible. or do as shug suggests, strip the thing down and point a fan into it. be ready to clean out the dustbunnies frequently though. removing the case also makes it transmit more EMI.
  12. http://isnoop.net/blog/2006/05/20/macsaber-turn-your-mac-into-a-jedi-weapon/ edit and for all you without a macbook:
  13. now that is uncalled for. if someone passes the link around and all of a sudden millions of people want the thing then i can understand if ms hands them out to the people requesting them from a large corporation before throwing them out to the common folk. there is no such thing as a free ride.
  14. and if the provider doesn't use a gsm net then you need to get the appropriate version of the phone and register it with your provider.
  15. so either tommie read all previous posts? or did he run a script to refresh the page every 30 seconds?
  16. Total time logged in: 18 days, 22 hours and 31 minutes. how exactly does the site track time online. tommie seems way high.is that something to do with his sat hookup?
  17. what do you mean if you ul more than 30mb for a long time? 30 mb per what?
  18. i think they might. however, i do believe they wouldn't give a rats ass about what i think. so your best bet will be to give them a ring and find out.
  19. that goes without saying. this is symantec antivirus after all. although i hate badmouthing a product like that especially when i liked the pctools series so much the experiences i've made with that av are mostly bad...
  20. well, the rokr made the list of 25 worst tech items, so that would be a no. razr is nice. slvr i havent handled. hey, at least i could cut it from 3 to 2!
  21. some x.1 soundcards have connectors for the different speakers that double as the mic connector in 2.1 mode. do you have bf2 set to a 5.1 or 7.1 mode while the other game it works in is in 2 channel mode? if the card wants to use the plug to output sound of course it will kill it as an input.
  22. now unless i had a bad dream the system of site operators paying their provider for the traffic they generate and those providers in turn paying off the backbone providers etc has been in place a long time and seems to have worked out so far. so if vonage wants to create a load of traffic with voip then they would be getting a bill for said traffic, no? in turn the backbone operators would be paid for the traffic generated. it has been a fairly open market with different providers forming individual contracts about what traffic to direct onto whose net for what fee. why does that have to be changed? i wouldn't call it neutral since backbone providers can theoretically charge one company more than another, but then that company can always go somewhere else.
  23. you know things are bad when your lead programmer says "uh-oh"... edit. on second thought, maybe it was put there on purpose? so all those people that don't have a valid license and can't get the updates are screwed? was the hole always there or did it come with an update?
  24. slightly off topic. the other day i again spotted the vw new beetle with what i was now able to id as the 90 hp turbodiesel. the awesome thing about it is that with the diesel sound it sounds damned close to the original beetle! as for power on a budget, look into picking up an older ford or dodge turbodiesel pickup. chiptune the thing or even add some mechanical upgrades and you will be able to hold your own against most other cars. go nuts and stick on a nitrous kit and hold on to your balls, otherwise they will ride up the crack of your ass when you punch it. diesel + nitrous =
  25. advice: pick up some extra parts to build a computer with the parts you're taking out. what you're replacing is a base for a fairly respectable machine. would be a shame to just throw it out.
