i dont know what this talk about hating windows is all about - i use both linux and windows, and i have honestly never had trouble with microsoft - i dont experience slowdowns, i dont have freezeups, no bsod's - just smooth - what people do not realize some of time is that when their system starts freezing up and throwing errors, it can often be caused by hardware, not by the o/s im happy with windows....7 months running already on the new install and not a single error/freeze up

yep....just like dlewis23 said - they are quieter - and when using a fan controller (which that case has 2 of), they should be considerably silent - ...there are of course low quality fans which make a lot of noise, but if you invest money in something good, you should be pretty happy with performance and silence i use antec fans, and i couldnt be happier - where as my previous panaflo m1a 120mm fan was like a jet turbine........

i have 3 120mm fans right now and i cant hear them...they are running on minimum power and still moving planty of air

yeah, this is a great deal for like a school laptop - the 60GB hard drive is a planty of space, 512mb of ram is good enough for that purpose, and that processor isnt bad at all - the only upgrade might be a better/longer lasting battery

like i said....600 will not be buying you 200mhz, it will buy you an unlocked multiplier - but considering it is a laptop - you wont be doing overclocking - those processors will run hot as is

what kind of a network ? wireless ? wired ? do you have firewall enabled that prohibts your computer to be seen on the network ? ....give us some more information please

the major difference is that the fx60 has an unlocked multiplier - which is only important while overclocking - other than that, its unrelevant

i can boot into windows at much higher clock speed but it won't be stable...i run these speeds 24/7 and it has never froze up - im waiting for my opteron to get there - ive ordered one with a good stepping that is supposed to be kick ass - i hope its good

i guess im one of the few lucky people that was able to get the 3700+ up to 2.75 on stock voltage

and some nice electric bills to pay also hehehehhe

opteron prices should not change at all - no single computer manufacturer uses these processors so they would not be affected - you can already buy an entry level 64bit processor for under 100 dollars

changing out the thermal compound was probably half the benefit other than the aftermarket cpu cooler - mine runs @ 29c idle and 37 full load
