The traceroute program needed to be rebuilt so I disabled it for now. There is also server configuration that needs to be done on this new server to be able to do that. Much of the security I have on the server is blocking that stuff. I'll get to it as soon as my priority list gets smaller. I may even add a logged traceroute to the automatic test... we'll see.

  3. Once the forums get busy again I'll open the chatroom back up. A ventrillo chat is a cool idea too... apparently my users set their own up or something before, I don't think I ever knew about it... lol.
  4. Well, good to hear that you're back to normal. Comcast may have had some congestion that they cleared up... who knows now, lol.

Thank you Joe. I'm always glad to hear from people who find my tools useful. Keep visiting and please tell your friends about us.
  7. That's really weird that it would only happen in that situation. Did they test your line before and after the problem. Word of warning, many companies these days will charge you about fifty bucks if the get there and find that it's not an issue with something they're responsible for. What program are you using for streaming media? Are you streaming to a console?
  8. Doesn't happen for everyone but I have heard of it. I'm addressing that in the version I'm working on as we speak.
  9. Do you have a router or is the modem directly connected to your computer? Hop number five... appears to still be within your hosts network looks very latent. Show them that traceroute. But does this only happen after you've tried to stream? Sounds like you think the two problems are connected. Your traceroute looks to me like they aren't.
  10. WebUser... the tests will only forward you if you will benefit from it. This is a formula that's been built over nearly 11 years of trial and error. Been built that way to provide the most accurate results. If you download 3MB in like two sends that burst of speed does not reflect real world speeds. The program makes adjustments for stuff like that. If you wanted a test of a file download... go download a file. This is a speed test. You'll have to trust me. This isn't my first rodeo.
  11. I've had forwarding like that since like 2002. If you pick a 3MB test... and your connection isn't too fast that's where it ends. But if you have a 20Mbps connection for instance, a 3MB files is insufficient to get accurate results. Pick the right files size for your connection type and you won't have to wait while the system adjusts it for you. That feature is there so you get the most accurate results. No added CPU by the way. With those changes there is actually less forwarding. It's more efficient, gets people to the right size quicker. Next version will be streaming data for a timed period instead of sizes... working on it.
  12. Sorry that's the only manual I could find... I tried.
  13. You may want to post in the help section. Are you seeing those speeds everywhere. Slow browsing? I'm actually leaving town for about a week. But we have a large number of resources here... and helpful users. My first suggestions would be... Direct Connection - get the most direct connection to your modem... take all routers off. Swap IT - swap out your Ethernet and Coaxial cables if you can. REBOOT - As always with problems like this, reboot your computer and cable modem... leave them off for 10-15 seconds to make sure the memory is fresh. Splitters? - ALSO, if you have ANY splitters on that coax before the modem, try it without them... make sure you put them back on if no improvement. Your technician may have put them on their to purposely drop dB in your signal (that will actually improve your signal in some cases) Good luck, if you figure out what the problem is please post a topic about your resolution. Other people with your same problem will be grateful.
  14. Is it easier now? Much has been done since you posted this.
  15. I would love to open up a server in Australia. Just have to find affordable hosting. Currently only 1% of testmy.net's traffic comes from there. Tell your friends about the site... if more people come from a country it gives me even more reason to go to the expense of a server there. Over the next year I hope to build up a large list of world servers. Canada, United Kingdom, India / Asia, Central / South America and Australia are already on my to-do list. It's just a matter of finding suitable VPS hosting at a good price point. The difference between how I do things and how some other guys with many test locations do things is that my mirrors aren't donations. I did that in the past and found that it's very hard to keep track of the server quality... so I stopped doing it. What's the point if half the servers can't be trusted. ... leads people to question the reliability of the servers that can be trusted. Just to let you know... going off my traffic statistics for Australia, the mirror will most likely be hosted on your East Coast. Sidney or Melbourne. I have to first do research to see how the internet pipelines run across your country. Again, please tell your friends. This site is word-of-mouth
  16. Damn, that sucks. Sorry man. Look on the bright side, it's symmetrical at least. :-/

  19. Have you tried the secondary server yet?
  20. Well, from the information you've shown me you may have a problem. dlewis23 is in FL and gets great speeds all the way to the mirror in CA. Start a new thread in the help section, or in the Comcast section about this.
  21. I further refined this since my last post... my connection for example goes... 507KB, 4MB .. then straight to 50MB ... if on the 4MB test I wasn't running to par I'd be taken to the 25MB test. -D
