  1. Thought I would ping this thread... PING!
  2. I've never owned a sony mp3 player. But I played with one at bestbuy a few months ago. Looks like it has lots of feature for the price. $100 with apple doesn't get you that much. Personally I'd get an ipod. But that's more because I have like 3-4 things in my home built to dock ipods. I use my droid for my personal music these days though. Your not spammy dude, never worry about posting too much. That's why this is here. The more regulars this forum gets the better it will be as an internet resource. Good luck... could you please review and make a post here about which ever mp3 player you go with. My users will find it helpful I'm sure.
  3. Right on, that's what I was going to tell you to do.. but you figured it out before I had a chance. Right on.

    Hi There :)

Start up a new topic, post up some of your scores. Maybe we can help you get the most out of that connection of yours
  5. Do you mean that you see it in that left column, in the explorer?

    Hi There :)

Hi pronkey, welcome to the site. And Chikusai... sorry if this topic got skipped over. The site was being converted over to new programming about the time that you joined..... many posts got over looked and some ever got lost during that process. Site running perfectly now though.
  7. Maybe that will be a future premium account feature... we'll have to see 'bout that The program is already setup to test with ANY possible file size, go ahead... give it a try. https://testmy.net/dl-{FILESIZE-in-KB} or https://testmy.net/dl-{FILESIZE-in-MB}MB so for instance https://testmy.net/dl-15360 or https://testmy.net/dl-15MB[/code] I've actually already tested it with 1GB before, but I have it limited to 100MB right now. The upload test doesn't currently have the resources built into it yet to serve like that but it will very soon. As soon as I have it finished I'll be adding the option for users to enter their own test size. 100KB to 100MB. - D
  8. Update: The Peering Lead for my host is investigating. There may be a bottleneck in the peering with Comcast. Comcast seems to be a common denominator in this case.
  9. Thanks Buntz, I've forwarded your info to my host as well... Here's a quote from their most recent response regarding this
  10. Okay, I forwarded the information to my host. Thanks for providing that. I'll update you once I know something. -Damon
  11. Whenever the space Ninjas with mustard gas invade us... you're totally ready!
  12. I disable those accounts automatically if actions aren't made often enough. Just shoot me a PM whenever you'd like to re-join the mods. It's nothing personal I just in the future want to make sure that everyone on the staff list is fully active. You'll always be a best friend of the site RTB I understand that people get busy. And also, after the old forum to that HUGE crash it took me a long time to get everything back on track. Things are running how they should again, just let me know when/if you have time to re-join the mod pool
  13. Nice man... you had me all worried

  15. Here's an update. I contacted my host about the issue and they responded with the following... There still may be a bottleneck in one of the peering connections along your route but I need a traceroute to give to my host so we can hunt the problem down. FYI: I should have at least two more servers by the end of the year. An addition of an East coast and West coast server will give our users more options in cases like yours. We used to offer mirrors but stopped the practice years ago because it was impossible for me to maintain quality control over donated mirrors. I like my test servers to be dedicated to the tests and nothing else. As long as the problem is something within my control or my hosts control I'll see to it that it gets resolved. But if it's one of Comcast's hops then there isn't anything I can do. If you need information on how to run a traceroute see this post >> ---- Thank you for your input, I take things like this very seriously. -Damon
  16. Can you paste me your traceroute? -- make sure your IP isn't shown when you post it. We're in a different datacenter, starting last month. Same provider but now in their Houston center instead of Dallas.
  17. Well, RTB... with you being in the UK, I'd trust your judgement. What setings do YOU use to max out your connection over seas? -D ... 1GB test --- that could happen sooner than you might imagine.
  18. You can always try the software at https://testmy.net/tools/test/pc_speed_test.php -- to tell you the truth it's a third party application that we sell software for. But many people see improvement with it. We've sold thousands of copies and have had absolutely zero negative feedback about it. Scanning for problems with it is free. I can't guarantee that will solve your problem however, the issue may not be with your computer... it could be the modem, a bad cable or a problem with the line on your ISPs end. First thing I usually do to nail the problem down is try another computer on the same network. Do you have any other computers on the network? If yes, are they having the same problem. If no, do you have a laptop or something you can get your hands on to try on your network. Good Luck
  19. Yeah, allot of things are said and done during election time that never come to fruition. I live in Arizona and right now there is all kinds of stuff going on with the Mexico border... I don't think it's a coincidence that a bunch of National Guard troops were deployed to the border right before the primary. Do they think we're stupid. Funny thing is, those troops can't even make any arrests, they still have to defer to the border patrol. So basically they're doing the same exact job that the cameras and spotter planes already do. At least that's what I've taken from the whole situation. ..... Ahhhh, politics. -D
  20. I just contacted my account rep with my host. Depending on the deal we work out it may be up even sooner.
  21. It's most likely because you're in the UK. I should be adding a UK and Asia server by the end of the year. My bandwidth provider has extensive peering to the UK so the tests here will still give you a very good idea what your speeds are to most servers (since many major sites are hosted in the US). When the data has to travel nearly 6000 miles, across the ocean... over about 30 hops (I pulled a trace on your IP) you'll never be able to max out. Unlike some other test sites testmy.net does not rely on donated servers. For quality control I like to maintain everything myself. But because of that fact there is a heavy price that I have to pay to host such servers. I recently upgraded the main server, it's way over powered.. just how I like it. I just need to get the extra money together to pick up a few more servers. I'll most likely be picking up a European server first. My host has a datacenter in London so that's most likely where it will be hosted... I should have that one nailed down in the next 30-60 days, so there's something to look forward to. Keep checking back, once that's up and running it will be very apparent... notices will be shown to all users that can benefit from that server and traffic will eventually be automatically routed to the closest server to the end user.
  22. Wow, Gigabit uplink to the home! Can you please provide a link to where you got this information? The logistics of rolling fiber to every home in Australia would be immense. But yes, it's definitely possible. I've even heard of 10 Gbps, 30 Gbps and 100 Gbps symmetrical fiber... not for residential obviously. Fiber has little limitation because if you hit the limitations of one strand of fiber you just need to add more strands. Here's resource from Feb 2010 that talks about 1Gbps fiber to the home Resource: http://gigaom.com/2010/02/11/so-where-else-in-the-world-can-you-get-1-gbps-to-the-home/ ..... all I know is that I would definitely find a use for that in my home
  23. Note: Linking to speed test sites other than testmy.net is forbidden in this forum. This includes score images and signatures. Posting scores from such sites defeats the purpose of this benchmark. A benchmark is only a benchmark if everyone is scored based on the same criteria. If you post a score from another speed test site... your post will be removed. If you post a link to another speed test site... your post will be removed. If you don't like the tools here, use another site... simple as that. Allowing such links only confuses things. We can only give support and recommendations based on our own benchmark that is run under known conditions. .... for all we know the other test may have the math wrong. You post will no longer be removed for posting speeds from other sites... but realize that TMN is different than other speed tests and we give no support for their results. TMN does not know the validity of any results other than the tests taken at TestMy.net. If you have questions about results that differ from other speed tests or want to know more about why TMN is set apart from the rest read the following topics... Speed Test Legitimacy Why Do My Results Differ From Speedtest.net / Ookla Speed Tests? ... as well as any linked documents within those documents. The truth is... other speed tests may be lying to you!
  24. I like to add a little humor to things -- like "Your line may literally be on fire!!" lol -- I just recently changed some of those quotes.
