  1. I may have to create an extension to do that. I don't think it's built into the system yet. I'll see what I can do. Right now I'm sick, got a little cold or something so I'll have to get to it later. :] - CA3LE
  2. I voted PS3. Age is a good question... All three systems are good. Xbox has more titles. Wii is always fun. But I personally love my PS3. I recently exchanged it. But it was not because it failed at all... I hit the end of my two year term with best buy. Told them I wanted to get it all cleaned up before my contract was up and they changed me out with a clean referb. Runs faster and quieter than ever... Apparently the older PS3s are sought after for their reliability. A friend of mine works for UPS and said he's seen over 1000 XBOXs being sent back. Over that same period only a hundred or so Wiis and a handful of playstations. Ask your son what game titles he's interested in... if they are available on the playstation I would highly recommend you go that route.
  3. Hopefully that new power adapter does the trick. Switching the cables out is always something good to try. Try the cables on a local network file transfer... check the cables for major kinks or obvious defects of the cable or connectors. As mudmanc4 said, that's showing our users the average of the internet as a whole. It's updated every 5 minutes and represents the last 30 minutes to an hour of tests taken here. It's just another number to benchmark yourself against. I hope to break this down by country as well soon.
  4. Welcome to the site, when you have questions post them up.
  5. Yeah. You should definitely still back up. But disabling that in windows does improve performance. You just have to remember to back up manually or use a 3rd party back up utility.
  6. Sounds like BS to me. If there is a problem with their equipment shouldn't they replace it? Or is that something that the consumer purchases? - CA3LE What's the name of the ISP?
  7. Well, it will give you an accurate result if most of the sites you visit are in the United States. The United States being the center of much of the internet activity I would say that it's still a good benchmark for the rest of the world. But with that many hops between you and the server you can't really be mad at your ISP if you can't pull your full speeds. But you can still compare to "Net.au" (other Aussies). The Speed Index is something I really haven't explained yet, it's a rolling average of the tests taken world-wide over the last 30 minutes (updated every 5 minutes). I haven't really explained this yet because it's still an evolving concept. I know, I need to get servers in Australia... and many more places. If you know of anyone willing to donate a server down under let me know. - CA3LE
  8. You're getting a better connection to the TestMy.net server during those hours. Usually people inquire when it's the other way around. You're going to get varied speeds around the internet. For instance, I do a download from Winamp.com for instance... pull about 20Mbps... I then run a test here and get >50Mbps..... downloading a file doesn't necessarily tell you what your actual connection speed is.
  9. I ran it last night... worked fine on my end. 60 minute interval. 10. There was a problem like this but it should be resolved. I'm also in OSX by the way. I just ran the scheduled test a few days ago and it worked perfectly for me. I'll give it a try right now and let you know what I find. -CA3LE

  13. Welcome to TestMy.net jackytsui... I hope you find what you're looking for.
  14. Yeah, I had a feeling that they charged more outside the US. Lame. Damn, Windows ME?!! I haven't seen that first hand in over 10 years. I can't believe that you didn't have problems with it... you must have been the only one. Ubuntu is awesome, I've built a bunch of Ubuntu machines... they run great. And if you're already running Linux the transition should be smooth. They just released a new version Oct. Get it here. What is the newegg equivalent in the UK?
  15. Your host may not have very good peering. Read this >> https://testmy.net/legit-speed-test.php The results that you get here can be trusted more over a test that you take on a server a couple hundred miles away. The problem with many smaller and some larger ISP's is that they don't usually have good peering relationships. But if they are really small there may not be anything they can do... that's just their quality of service. To fix the problem they would have to get more outbound providers. Good luck. Welcome to the site by the way.
  16. There actually was a bug with that. I had to let it run last night to see what you were talking about. Thank you for reporting this I've corrected the issue.
  17. Working fine on my end as well. What was the problem that you were having?
  18. Have you thought about a Mac Mini? They're awesome.
  19. gzelman, you may want to read http://xplornetsucks.blogspot.com/2007/12/so-what-we-know-about-xplornet.html Does anyone have any insight into this?
