1. hahahaha ... I'm sorry man, sometimes i get a PM and I say to myself "I will answer that in a minute." -- i get off my computer for a little while and when I get back on I have like 10 more messages and then I forget about the message I was supposed to get back to. sorry to anyone that has been a victim of my dis-organization -- send me the PM again please, I promise I will get back to you as soon as I read it. -D
2. My friend Alex who just stopped by peeked over my shoulder and just saw me reading this thread and he said "The Star Spangled Banner en Espanol?" (he's Mexican by the way) "They'll have to rename it 'The Star Spangled Beaner'" -- then he sang "Jose, can joo see....."
3. sure did.. that was one of the things I did --- I already had allot of that info in my 'my.cnf' file but there were a couple of lines that were different and I think they may have made the difference. --- I haven't heard of any database errors since... I also noticed that in the 'my.cnf' file I didn't have max connections specified, I used to have it in there but somehow over time it got deleted (I must have done it on accident one day) ... but I think that sealed the deal. -D
4. I think it will happen early tomorrow
5. we're now at 29963 Wow, already at 30,000 members.. crazy! ---

11. I just got a new one too... it was a deal I couldn't pass up. A Dell Latitude D810 Intel Pentium M 1.86GHz - centrino mobile 15.4" TFT LCD Widescreen display DVD-R+- Optical Drive 1GB DDR 566 80 GB HDD 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon x600 802.11b/g integrated + NIC integrated bluetooth integrated smartcard reader I love it... it's my favorite new toy, I had to get it.. the guy was selling it for only $650 (USD) -- pretty good for a laptop that sold for $2700 about a year ago.
12. What I really don't like about IE is that it changes the way pages are displayed... it messes with the output and displays it the way that it thinks it should look, what if the webmaster who wrote the pages wants it to look that way.. TOO BAD. I have a couple of design elements that i had to code a special way so that it would look the same in either browser... it just makes me mad that I had to take the extra time to code it when the browser should be doing it's job of displaying what it reads... not reading the page and making changes where it sees fit to, lol. Yeah, they just don't go 100% to standard, BAH. But, DAMN this new IE is smooth and looks great... love it! - Damon
13. I just want to get some opinions. I've been using IE7 for a little while now and I have to say... I love it. I have been going back and forth between IE and Mozilla since the internet browsers were invented. For nearly the past two years or more I've been using Firefox but I've given IE a chance again and I've found that Microsoft has done a really good job addressing many issues. There are a few things that the browser does that I don't agree with but there is ALLOT more security and features that seem adopted from Firefox... and FINALLY tabbed browsing (which I now can't live without). I also like the innovative layout they've made. It looks fresh and clean ---- I will take a screenshot and attach to this thread. - Damon
14. yeah, line speed is measured in bps, Kbps, Mbps, Gbps and so on... but file transfer is measured in bytes/s, kB/s, MB/s, GB/s and so on.... the reason file transfer is measured on a different scale is because it's representing the speed on a scale that relates to files... for instance, the file is 500 kilobytes (kB) the correct term for talking about how fast you downloaded that file would be 150kB/s ---- which means that your line speed is 1228.8Kbps or 1.2Mbps I hope this clears up the confusion... it's kinda hard to explain
15. I have made some changes to the mySQL server. If you get database errors retrieving scores or on the results page of your test (an error in sending your score to the database) please either post it in this thread or PM me with a screenshot (or a copy and paste of the error). Thank you for your help, hopefully there will not be anymore errors - Damon
16. Alright, there are a bunch of new INSANE connections that are becoming more popular so I will be adding a couple of new test sizes to accommodate the demand.... a 12MB test is not even close to the size that would be perfectly accurate for these monsters. I think the new sizes will be 28MB --- for the connections around 30Mbps, this will sustain a 7 second test. Basically a 30 Mbps connection transfers 3.66 MB/s, times that by 7 seconds and you get a little over 25MB... I round up to 28MB for the guys who are running a tad over 30Mbps so they don't have to go to the next test size. 45MB --- for the connections around 50Mbps, again.. this let these guys sustain a 7 second download so they get a nice accurate test. unfortunately direct linking to these test will be completely unavailable (even if you know the little linking tricks, hehe). These test must be called on by testmy.net and will only be requested for connections that really need it (if i did it any other way my bandwidth could be sucked dry). Although there will be a key available for those of you that want to try it (play with it)... the key will be automatically changed daily and you'll need to PM me for the key of that day. I'm sure the restriction will be removed in the following years as bandwidth becomes more available (in the past year testmy.net's host has given us 1 terabyte of extra bandwidth per month... and I'm sure as bandwidth becomes cheaper they will continue adding bandwidth to my package) That's it... I will post more info when this feature actually becomes availible -- should be within the next week or two. -Damon
17. (Oh, NOOOW I see that php beat me to the punch.. lol)
18. This however WILL work to show other people your scores
19. Just to let you guys know... posting those links don't show anyone else your personal score compared to the host... it only shows the hosts score compared to the person who is pulling the query --- basically, for instance if I were to click the link that Blunted supplied, I will see Optonline compared to ME not Blunted -- see the screenshot below. one thing you can do however is select the text -- copy and paste it to the thread.... Mine for instance....... Overall Diagnosis compared to :cox.net
20. This is a little early... but I would like to wish everyone a happy 4th of July! Note: If you are using the default theme ("Original Feel") you will notice a little change to the theme - if you're not using that theme, change you're theme to see what I'm talking about... (you may have to hit F5 after clicking that link to see the theme) --- and ON the 4th of July you might see theme based Google Ads (but I think these only show up if you live in the USA) Please make it a safe 4th of July... be responsible, don't drink and drive (I know sometimes it's easier said than done, but really... how hard is it to call a cab or pass out at a friends house... come on!). I expect to see everyone back here on Wednesday testing! (with a nice fat hangover) Everyone... have an AWESOME holiday. Make sure that you take the day to appreciate all that we have and all who have fought for our freedom that we sometimes take for granted. Also, drink a beer for testmy.net! Have a great weekend everyone! And again, have an even greater Independence Day! - Damon
