What you don't see is that if you wanted to expand it with an s-100 bus and all the goodies you need buy a new cabinet and power supply which at that time was very pricey. A real keyboard (vss the hexpad) was an additional $100+ and if you wanted a video display that was gonna set you back even more (not to mention you had to write your own video display drivers). There was a tiny basic rom set for it for another $$ otherwise you did everything in 1802. Applications....ha.....there were applications if YOU wrote them....otherwise there was little of nothing except for what fellow owners had developed and shared. But it truly was great place to start for a 16 yearold (that would have been me at the time)

Sometimes you have to throw in the towel and call the experts....this is probably one of those times...that way...if they mess it up worse in trying to fix it...they are responsible for making things right....

W Who is your provider and what package do you subscribe to?

Do not allow the guy to leave unless you have seen for yourself that his laptop gets the proper speeds. Then connect your PC up and see what happens. This will pretty much isolate the issue and from there we can move forward if the issue is not resolved. I got your pm btw and you will notice there are additional icons to the left which will help you.

You can't lower that on your own. Cox will have to send a tech out. Well we have covered all the bases that one can do remotely. It's time to have Cox send someone out. Make sure they bring a laptop and can verify speed test results in front of you. Good Luck!

All I can say is wow....

Okay lets look at a couple of other things....are you running any type of AV or firewall software and if so...what and have you tried turning it all off then and then running to see if you get a diff.

I stumbled across a site recently that brought back fond memories of computing as it once was....where if it didn't exist...you just breadboarded and hard coded it as best ya could... For those of us who were around and actively involved in those days...this will be a pleasant trip down memory lane....for the rest of you....it's a fun history lesson that will amaze you....there was a time when we bragged about 4k of ram! http://www.old-computers.com/news/default.asp

Netnanny is what we recommend to our subscribers for parental monitoring. This is not freeware and it will allow to do just about everything a parent could want including silent cc: of all IM's and emails sent and received by your child. Will also allow to award your child a lump sum of computer time per week and when its used thats it...no access unless you allow it. You can also define sites, times of access and a whole host of other things. You can try it free for 14 days I think....this is a very well respected software package and puts the control back into your hands without restricting your access as well.

Sorry...there is no such monster with one exception. You can get a wireless video sender such as the one I posted below. Hook it to your cablebox and that would allow you to watch whatever your cable box is currently tuned to. You could then use a video blaster and control your cable box from any room in the hse...this is an expensive solution to a problem that would be easily solved by installing a cable outlet next to your computer. http://www.amazon.com/VS6438-4-channel-Wireless-Sender-Extender/dp/B00077GE7Y

Here is the latest software/driver for the scanner http://support.packardbell.com/global/item/index.php?i=platform_scannerdiamond1200plus&g=2000 As well as the patch for SIS chipsets.
-
Okay....I think I know what you may have done....let me guess...you left the scanner connected to the pc even after installing the new XP. Problem is that this scanner is a USB device and like many USB devices XP will attempt to load what it thinks is the correct driver for it. When you try to install the software after the fact, it chokes because of the bogus driver already loaded. Go into device manager and see if you have devices in the OTHER section that show to be partially loaded. If so...disconnect the scanner and then uninstall all the "OTHER" devices. Reboot and then go back and install the device software again. After the device drivers are installed then reconnect your scanner....with a little luck that will be it.

Sorry to see TMN go through this...not sure what the conquest value was to the little peckers (with strong emph. on LITTLE). If there is anything that you need help with....maybe a little ISP to ISP dialogue to get a little cooperation let me know...

Whats sad about this is that some California town (are you surprised?) actually banned the stuff for a short period of time until they realized what it was....

Everything looks good there with one exception. The Arris MTA (modem) doesn't like upstreams of 50 dBmV or above so that needs to stay at 50 or lower for that modem to operate reliably. This should not have an effect on your speeds though. I'm assuming you are using a router as well. For snits and giggles disconnect the router and run direct to the MTA (don't forget to reset the MTA once you have connected the new equipment). Let me know what the results are then...we'll get this yet...

Does your cablemodem have onboard diagnostics that you can access? If so please post all of the information here.

I had 6 full glasses of DHMO today (ice cold....) went down nice and smooth....

Your speed test results look pretty good....oh wait....D said that too...can you be more specific as to when this is happening and also check your speed TMN when it happens so we can see it as well...

wAIT Wait a second...I thought you had cable...not DSL...please specify the type of broadband service you have......never mind...I just saw your last post....

In the case where his connection just ceased and he was getting the error msg that "might" be the case, but his connectivity is fluctuating between connectivity and no connectivity with the limited or no connectivity msg. I'm sure if he checks the things I suggested he will find his problem in no time.
-
Your issue is somewhat different and the "limited or no connectivity" is a great clue. There are really only three things that cause this message. (1) a bad ethernet cable, (2) a bad ethernet port in the modem, router or pc, (3) a failed ethernet driver (simply uninstalling it in device mgr and rebooting should fix this one). If the problem is 1 or 2 then you will need to address the issue through troubleshooting those devices.
