it you are hitting a router it shouldnt be any more than 1ms.. If you own the router.... I am wondering if you have line noise on you phone line.. That would increase the ping.. are you losing any packets? I am sure that Van burren has taken you though this already... just thought that packet loss would be a factor in the high pings.. You might want to try a different phone jack.. there was someone else who had a simular problem and it turned out to be the phone jack he was using..

I dont think there is anyway to "lower" your pings... Since it is a routing issue the only real way would it lower them would be to request a low lag connection.. Which is normally a business class connection.. Why are you so worried about ping times?

It is fine... 200x4 pipes on the P4 =800.. My guess is that 3dmark doesnt see the other 3 pipes... This is the best way to explain it.. Hope that helps a little bit.. As far as the 9550 goes.. it as a decent card.. It is NOT a stripped down version!!! The only difference between it and the 9600 standard is the Fab process used and the clock speed of the gpu.. other than that they are identical.. If you want an upgrade I would recommend the Nvidia 6800 series.. That would be a big enough jump that you would see the difference.. You would see the difference between the 9550 and the 9800 series but the price is still to high compaired to the improvement.. One other think.. You are not running the most up to date drivers.. 6.14.10.6458 that is what you are running.. 6.14.10.6505 that is the newest driver.. You also might want to try omegadrivers.net!! They have a 3rd party driver that works really and most of the time produces faster results..

Have you tried to remove the card, uninstall the driver and any software, and then reinstall.. If you can ping and get email then it sounds like a browser problem.. try uninstalling firefox and then reinstall.. That is a really wierd problem!! Have you ran a spyware check recently?

Ok.. when you are having problems try to ping the router, 192.168.0.1, Start->run-> cmd-> ping 192.168.0.1 .. If you are timing out and all of the other computer are working the it is on your end.... If that is the case then try download the latest drivers from dlink.. all of the revisions have updated drivers then the ones that they shipped with.. However, make sure you get the correct ones for the version of the card that you have! Update the drivers and then restart... power cycle the router.. and then re do the ping test.. If that is still not working check to make sure that you dont have mac filtering on or WEP/WPA enabled... The other thing is do a site survey with network stumbler and see if there is another wi-fi network that could be interfering.. if that is the case change the channel on yours to atleast 3 above or below.. so 1,3,6,9,11...

There is only so fast that you can get.. believe me you will not be pushing 10,000kbs in the United state from home... Van burren and some of the other guys are from overseas.. So they get fiber directly to their house.. That isnt bad what you have now...

did you look at the user rating?? thumbs up.. 32% the other 68% down.. The only think that was improved was the wi-fi stuff.. easier to connect for the business travelers... I mean it is sad when microsoft provides a tool to keep it from installing!! I guess it is your own decression wether to download it or not.. I know that I will not be installing it or recommending it to anyone in the near future.. Plus none of the patches that Microsoft is releasing fix any of the SP2 problems.. You dont even need it.. So i guess microsoft doesnt think that it is all that important.. In fact on one of the former boards i use to visit, intelfanboy.com, there was a microsoft tech that said it would make you computer any more secure.. I cant verify that he was a microsoft employee but he knew a lot of stuff about the Microsoft oses... But what ever..

Yeah sorry about that.. I have had a really long day.. I know you are the expert at this stuff.. Just seems that it works really well for wireless clients! I dont know why but it just does.. I have had nothing but really good results on alot of the laptop in the lab using TCP..
