Ok here is the deal... You will never have something that will be top end for more than 3 to 5 months... AMD, I think, is the best way to go on a budget... I like your idea of using part from you old computer if you dont have any use for it... However, be smart... Remformat the hard drive and install a new copy of windows so that you are getting the biggest bang for the buck... As far as frame rate in cs... That mainly depends on 2 things... Graphic card and drivers... I am assuming that you have a AGP FX5200 Ultra which is mostly likely an 8x if it is a newer one... Which means that your current motherboard, I am guessing here, is only a 4x AGP motherboard.. Meaning that not all of the speed that this card is capable of is being used... That is the good thing... The bad deal is that if you are going to want to play newer games on this setup that graphic card has got to go... It is just under powered and is really considered low end at this point in time... The only thing that I am questioning is why you are going to spend tons of money on a motherboard that in less than 3 years will be really out dated... Dont get me wrong that is a kick ass motherboard... The link was broken so here is a link for all of you who are wondering what we are talking about.. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-130-418R&type=Refurbish If I were you I would save the $35 bucks or so and get this motherboard... http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-150-045R&type=Refurbish This is the Shuttle AN35N Ultra motherboard based on the Nvidia Nforce 2 chipset... The Nvidia chip set is the fastest for the AMD processors when it comes to games... I have built on system on this motherboard and believe me this is a really great product...! I know some people are going to scream at me about this recommendation but Shuttle has really stepped up the quality of their products in the past few years... My computer is based on a Shuttle motherboard and it kicks some 2200+ and many intels in the ass... I am on the VIA chip set... The only thing that you really lose is the SATA hook ups but if you dont have a sata hard drive or dont plan on having one soon... well i dont see the need.... The 3000+ is the highest processor that is supported on this motherboard so upgrading will make this a really nice coaster... As far as the processor that is a nice processor but I would get the 2800+ instead... Stock proformance wise they are almost identical in most benchmarks... The only time that you will see a difference is in office suites and maybe video editing... To see what I am talking about check out this site... http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1783&p=1 It has extensive benchmarking on both chip and intel chips just to see where you system will rank in the speed world... The case is AWESOME!!! I love it... I might use it for my next computer... The powersupply might be crap but that is ok because you will really never get close to the 420W rating.... For what like $50 that is a steal! Want to see what this case looks like??? Check it out http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-156-137&depa=1 SO COOL.... MUST HAVE NOW!!! So here is what my total comes to... $48.00 for the case...$39.00 for the mobo(referb)... $121.00 for the retail AMD 2800+ Barton... Total: $208.00 That leaves about $43 for what ever you want.... I would suggest something like this..http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-125-126R&type=Refurbish then sell your current graphic card on ebay or to a local computer store... Good luck!

Yeah the 64's do run windows xp 64 edition but the driver support and the software itself is fairly unstable... My guess is that it will become better as Microsoft devoted more time in the coming months... Actually it is faster for game if you run the game in regular xp rather than the 64 bit version.

Then talk to a lawyer...

lol anything over 3mbs is good! He just has an amazing connection... -
Here is the problem... If the item that you are suing for is less than $10,000 it most likely isnt worth your time or money unless you are going to work with a lawyer that isnt going to request any money... If I were you I would call Charter ask to talk to the manager or head tech... By the way are these guaranteed speeds?? It sounds like this is a business connection of some sort... If they are you might have a case of fraud against them but talk to a lawyer before you start shooting your mouth... If they recommend a tech to come out let them come out and see what is going on with the connection... If it is a business connection I dont know if you will ever get the full upload off of a network... I think that you have to go directly from the line that is coming in from the ISP. If it is a T1 line like I am guessing that it is.... Then there is no reason for you not to get the bandwidth... Give them a call before you do anything and tell them that you are tired of being hassled around...

do the same rules for the link apply... No firewall, proxy, .ect?? or it will reture fake?
-
From what I have read that are great... However for some reason, I think it is because the dude that built the computer didnt use a fresh copy of windows, it is really slow... I mean it got beat by a 2.6ghz intel... The only thing I am going to say is wait for the 939... If you buy the 754pin processor you are really limiting what you can upgrade and what technology you get... I dont expect anyone to release a 754 pci express motherboard ever... If you can just bairly afford to buy the motherboard and processor dont buy this setup.... You need to get some really good ram, a sata hard drive, and a decent video card to see the results that all of the benchmarks are talking about.

Just surfing extremetech.com and saw this article... Hey lorne you might be interested... http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1591812,00.asp Using PCI express with 2 video cards on an array... Hmm... almost 2 times the power of the current cards.... I guess... But first we need to be able to max out the current ones!!! Then we can start using arrays... I also am guessing that PCI express is going to take some time to come to AMD products because Intel is developing it.... They dont like to share.

Ok it looks like we are dealing with the Linksys WRT54GS. It is a 4 port router with 802.11g and up to 128 encryption... Ok Bobo here is the deal... the wireless adaptor is only supported in windows 98SE... If you have a ethernet connection to that pc it should work fine... You also might want to make sure that if you have the WEP enabled, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!, that the key code match on both ends. Otherwise you will not be able to connect to the router... Linksys doesnt support windows 98 standard edition for some reason... My guess is that all of the wireless networking stuff was first included on windows 98se.... You could try to do a windows update... I think that Microsoft might have discontinued Windows 98 support... Otherwise move this computer to the router and use an ethernet connection... An use the wireless card on some ME/2000/XP computer.. Good Luck!!

What is your upload?? That is really quick for dsl..

I think there was some one else who has a 12000kbs hit a few day ago... Still that is one hell of a score!
-
That is an interesting way of looking at it... Who know if we only has one of the 2 we could still be back in the Ti 500 days... or even Voodoo could still be around

Hey no this is what it is all about... To your point if you go to a retail store that carries both cards most likely some stupid ass guy might try and sell you some really crappy card... What you are seeing right now is 2 people who are some what well informed attempting to persuade you to, may be next time you purchace a new card, go with one company or the other... I love talking about this stuff and would never mean to offend ICE or anyone else on this forum... By no means was ICE starting anything...

Hey CA3LE I dont know if you would like to do this but due to the fact that there has recently been an explosion of viruses and trojans maybe a info box or something telling the users what the current threats are... Just something to think about.. I receive the Symantec weekly update about the new stuff so..

sorry that links wasnt working... I guess it does just come down to what you like... I personally like Nvidia, go figure, and with how this sector of the computer business there will always be the giant line between the Nvidia fans and ATI fans...
-
Yeah you could run 2 dial up modems at one to get twice the speed of one.. Of course this took 2 phone lines but... This is also how the D-Link 22mb system works... I have found that the higher you are in the channels the better... I am running channel 11, i think i have to check later..., with no speed loss due to interference..

Yeha i guess ATI is the winner... But I still give credit to Nvidia for the balls they have... Releasing first is the hardest thing to do... I will be interested to see if the PCI express actually makes any difference at all... I think late summer is the projected release date... The Inquirer does have most of the stuff right... This isnt related to the mag in the store you see with the alien baby... Hell if tom's hardware is using them for info... I think that they are a good source... Hey do you get a free copy of Half-Life 3 with this new card Sorry about that I just had to put that in... Cause after all it has been almost 5 months, I think, since the 9800XT was released... I dont know about you but some of the screen shots that have been taken from games on both the Nvidia and ATI card have been more in favor of Nvidia... Their picture is more realistic.. Here is what I am talking about.. http://www20.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040504/ati-x800-32.html The Nvidia shot looks softer and more realistic... That is just my opinion... The ATI screenshots are not a fair, in my opinion, way of compairing the cards... Nvidia isnt running the same program or using the same screen shots...
-
If you look at it that way... Or this is the way I see it... ATI had the advantage to begin with... Nvidia launched first the ATI. So ATI had all of the specs of the Nvidia card and I read on the the inquirer.com that ATI changed the speed of its card just before release.. I cant find the article right now... Here is are some of the benchmark for the new Nvidia cards... It looks like the Nvidia is up on top again... http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20040504_090001.html I was not as impressed with the ATI launch as much as the Nvidia launch...

The problems with the super g router is that it combineds channels... It makes super pipeline for data but anyone with a standard g router gets screwed.... Cause you cause interference... Also these are more Vulnerable to attacks from war drivers... So many channels are used it is like putting in the welcome mat out... Update: Here is the article that I was talking about... It is called "Don't be a wireless wanker" from tech tv... http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/products/story/0,24330,3671189,00.html I guess SpeedBoost doesnt use channel bonding but I dont know how else you could get those types of speed with out increasing the "bandwidth".

Nvidia is re releasing a ultra 2 version that is going to have different clock speeds... It should get close to the xt version... Or that is what they say... PCI express... that is a huge factor.. I dont think Nvidia is even in that development group yet...
