  1. good to hear.. yeah for some reason Dlink is having quality problems with the DI-524.. I guess that is why they are trying to get rid of them so everyone moves to the DI-624
  2. 125Mbps 802.11g is a proprietary standard... meaning that you must have all the same equipment to make it work. So if you by a Linksys router that can run at 125Mbps, i dont know if they offer that, you would also have to buy linksys cards that support it. If you by from another manufacture then the router will default to 54Mbps. One rule that I have lived by is take what the manufacture says the speeds is, because it is a theoretical speed, and take 50-60% of it. That is the max speed under ideal conditions. So.. 802.11b 11mbps 50% is about 5.5mbps 60% is about 6.6mpbs 802.11g 54mbps 50% is about 27mbps 60% is about 32.5mpbs 802.11g 108mbps (I have not used any proprietary standard equipment) 50% is about 54mbps 60% is about 64mpbs
  3. yeah patch panels are used to reduce wear on the switches.. you get one of those and plug the cord coming out of the back end into the physical switch. It also can help cable mangement.. you dont have to run full length wires to the physical switch.. not a bunch of fun to punch down.. you can only unravel them a certain distance otherwise you can create a dead cable.. Standard is, yes, normally used for inwall due to the fact that it can stand up to more than stranded.
  4. Lets see... Swimmer cause I swim.. My avatar is a shrunken version of a yes.. Mac wallpaper that I found on deviant art.. My Sig.. self explanatory..
  5. I just realized that they may have changed sites.. try cdrlabs.com
  6. have you overclocked it? otherwise you might want to consided calling the manufacture.. no heat sinks should burn you.
  7. Verizon is known to block port 80 where bandwidth is at a preimum. Try moving the port to 8080 or 4040.. Make sure that you have a static IP on the computer and it is forwarded correctly.
  8. hirens is pretty good.. yeah.. a lot of that stuff is considered "hacker" but if it saves you from having to reformat or fix a computer faster.. then it is a good tool..
  9. how can you tell that it is over heating? Is there something wrong with it display or is the case just really hot? Either way I would recommend that you put a fan on it if you even thing about oc'ing ..
  10. I am a tdk fan.. like coknuck said fuji are pretty good.. depending on your burner check out www.cdfreaks.com (the site is down at the moment?) but for every review they put the burners through a bunch of tests on different medias.. everything from the really cheap stuff to premium brand. They also recommend the media that works best for the drive based on the number of errors and write time. That will get you headed in the right direction.
  11. yeah.. that is what I had to do.. see if you can get it stable otherwise return it..
  12. if it is bios.. i think pulling the cmos battery will take care of that.. If I remember correctly you might have to supply the admin password to reinstall? I think NT has that as an option.. not 100% sure about xp
  13. I think this is what you want.. http://www.visiongs.de/ makes the computer a physical server for the webcam stream.. Then if you wanted to you could also view them remotely.. You would need static IPs on the webcam servers and most likely you would have to change the port number for one of the cameras.. I have never used this software.. but it does look easy. There is also an open source version.. but it didnt have any screenshots.. here is another one.. http://www.theill.com/conquercam/screenshots.asp looks like it gives you a little bit more control over the camera itself..
  14. This topic has been moved to HELP!. [iurl]http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=13306.0[/iurl]
  15. I had issues with my DI-524 also.. However, I couldnt even get the latest firmware on it.. well i did but it turned it into a crash machine.. all it did was reset over and over. I would recommend not running the latest firmware from Dlink on the 524.. There was another thread that discuess this problem. It seems that on some of the models the firmware would run fine.. and on other models it wouldnt run at all or is would be so buggy that all it would do is restart endlessly. The 524 is a decent router.. it is more the firmware issue than a hardware issue. If you can run the older firmware stable then I would do that.. otherwise look for a newer router.
  16. Wait!! til june.. Intel is going to lower the prices on the current dual core when the next gen come out.. from $650 down to about $290.. you should see the prices fall. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=30881
  17. yeah.. winternals to the rescue..
  18. The B series is nice.. they are a little on the thick side.. not huge but a little bigger.. I would go with the intel.. they have the best mobile line by far!
  19. that would be fine.. if you need to hook up another computer then you are going to need another usb module or a PCI card for that computer... Other than that you should be good to go.
  20. Sure... 2 PCs both desktops?
  21. To get on to the admin account? There are ways of doing this.. if this is what you want to do PM me..

  25. Alright here we go.. Case: Chenbro RM214 This case ranges from about $370 to a little over $500 depending on where you buy from. I would recommend looking on ebay for a case! You can get them for under $100 shipped. Mine, http://www.cidesign.com/product_detail.jsp?productID=18 , was $67 shipped. The Chenbro ships with a Ultra 160 SCSI backplane.. Which means that the drives can be hot swapable. There are very few cases that are shipping SATA standard. Motherboard: Tyan These are the boards that I have looked at.. Depending on what you are looking for as far as hard drives go (Sata or SCSI) the prices are going to range from about $350-700 for a dual processor board that is dual core ready. You might not need that much power.. Memory: for the Tyan S2881U (Thunder K8S) For a 1GB module.. it is going to run about $200 bucks.. Hard drives: Again this depends on Sata or SCSI.. If it is SCSI you can find them one ebay pretty easy.. just make sure you are getting the slim ones not the thick ones.. Processor: AMD Opteron 246 Standard dual core 2.0ghz Opteron.. $237 (CAD) Again.. you might want to start a generation before what is out right now.. I know there are some good buys out there on ebay..
