  1. This thread was locked for 5 minutes due to the name calling which appears to be starting again.
  2. No prob. FYI, I use Verizon VoiceWing on my FIOS which is the Verizon voice over ip offering. It's slightly higher than Vonage but for $30 I get a ton of features and unlimited long distance in the US.
  3. Where did you hear that? FIOS doesn't require a phone.
  4. Looks like you have the bases covered.
  5. Locking sucks doesn't it? Internet over power lines would be so kewl if the speed was good, the prices was right, and it was secure. My understanding of current powerline network designs leads me to believe it is extremely insecure and would be a worms wet dream. Now, play nice or you two will be grounded.
  6. Your plan has a couple of problems. First, if you are really going to be doing serious video editing and rendering, you need more than one CPU. You are going to be extremely CPU bound even with your specs. I'd recommend a multi proc or multi core config. Second, if you want good display technology, you should consider moving to a widescreen high definition monitor. With your pocketbook, you should at least consider http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html and the other monitors and LCD's on the market. Can you add more information on the real job and tools? I'm wondering why you aren't moving to a 64bit platform. Your constraints intially will be CPU followed by memory.
  7. The tweaks for Windows XP Pro should work fine. Media Center 2005 isn't that different. I have two MCE machines. It's more important to use the cablenut settings that apply to your ISP.
  8. Gentlemen, Shall I lock the thread or would you like to discuss this in a mature manner? Halobox
  9. You'll see SBC Lightspeed in Texas first.
  10. I don't think they care right now about your usage. That may change over time as the number of users goes up. Regarding servers, the AUP and TOS prohibit servers but they contradict themselves by promoting gaming. I don't think they care if you setup a game server. The problem you face is naming. If you setup a server of any type on the dynamic residential connection, you'll need to use a dynamic DNS service to map your current ip address to a name you can give out. If you are serious about the server side and can afford the $99 per month business static plan, go with it. That's what I have and I can run any server I want. I have a number of services running 24x7.
  11. You might consider downloading and installing the latest 2200BG drivers from http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-010623.htm
  12. WARNING... thread lockage possible. Stealing is against the law and we want everyone to obey the law, right?
  13. Depends on the OS, but it's relatively simple.
  14. their network will be regional data warehouses and spider refueling... any idea what it takes to cache the internet?
  15. Pre-order? All of the good pre-orders seem to be gone already. Sure, you can order a bundle from Gamestop, but their bundles are over priced and you don't get to select the games.
  16. Check out http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?story=greathollywoodjourney1 I don't think we'll really know much about the script for a few more months.
  17. with the number of connections you describe, you don't need NLB. how many connections are expected on each interface and how much data is being pulled or pushed? what is the speed of each connection? sounds like you are trying to over engineer the solution...
