I've read that port 80 is used for HTTP traffic (read: web browsing). How do you use the 'net if it's blocked? Does Verizon give you certian software?

It might be a little different on Comcast. They splitter they put on my net connection was 1000Mhz but it was 3.5dB not 6. The connections to my two tv's are 7dB, I think, with an amp on each tv line.

What package do you have? 4Mb/384Kb or 6Mb/768Kb.

From the Comcast help site: Why do some of the lights on my cable modem blink even when my PC is idle or turned off? Many cable modems have an LED labeled Cable or Data. Often, this LED flashes or blinks even when your PC is idle or turned off. Legitimate network data (most often DHCP and ARP traffic) is generated by Comcast, causing this behavior. This traffic should not be cause for worry, and should not affect your bandwidth.
