    c:\RECYCLER?

You're welcome. Just be careful when dealing with hidden folders. Most are hidden for a reason.
  5. Comcast's advertised speeds are 4Mb download or 4000Kbps. They both mean the same thing. BTW, the upload is 384Kb.

    c:\RECYCLER?

You might find some info here : <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;171694">Differences Between the Recycle Bin and the Recycler Folder</a>
  7. right-click on my computer>>Properties>>Hardware. It's on that tab.
  8. One thing, Emachines comps. don't come with powerful power supplies. I'm not sure how much power PCI cards require, especially if they have they're own fan.
  9. Connection speed and download speed are the same thing. They're sometimes shown differently. For example testmy.net shows download speed in KB/sec and connection in Kbps and Mbps. Go to the <a href="https://testmy.net/tools.php"> misc tools</a> section for more info on Kb KB and Mb conversion info.
  10. You should be able to get at least 90% of your advertised speeds. Read the "New users click here" thread in my sig below for some help.
  11. Quite of a few modems can have power levels between +15dBmV and -15DbMV, so as long as you are having no speed problems you should be fine. Just make sure it stays within that threshhold.
  12. To get to the BIOS you usually press esc or delete (it can vary) when your computer first starts up. Press it when you see the first boot-up screen. It will have a lot of text and maybe checking/counting the RAM (memory), or you may see a manufactures logo. Once you are in the BIOS set-up screen, look for a section that lets you configure which order the devices boot up. You may not be able to boot from a USB device. If not you will either need to have the OS on an internal hard driuve or you will need to create a start-up disk. I'd recommend having Windows on an internal drive anyway, since they're usually faster.
  13. Comcast offers 2 plans: Basic 4Mb/384Kb $42.95 and 6Mb/768Kb$ for 10.00/month more.

  15. I just found this on the FAQ page: "We do have a fast server - testmy.net currently employees 2 servers both are Dual 2.8GHz Xeon, 2 GB DDR RAM, Rehat Enterprise Linux, MySQL server, Apache Webserver, PHP, 100 Mbps uplink to a 16 Gbps Direct Fiber network. testmy.net knows what kind of server is needed to get correct test scores to all users regardless of time of day and server load. (also see Network Architecture)" https://testmy.net/faq.html
  16. Your computer's BIOS has to be able to boot from a USB device to be able to use a USB drive as the one with the OS on it. Do you know how to check BIOS settings?
  17. I'm guessing you have newer hard drives. If both drives have an option called "Cable Select" you can also set them to that. Drive with OS e.g.: Windows XP master or cable select c: second hard drive same IDE cable, slave or cable select. CD-Rom seprate IDE cable aka "IDE channel"
  18. What exactly do you mean by "hard drive setups"? Do you mean something like a RAID array?
  19. Shared memory means it uses your computer's memory instead of it's own built in memory. Emachines (as well as others) have the video card built in to the motherboard. You may also want to check the connection from your monitor and computer. Since you said the settings "don't stay" it could be a virus. What does the "flipping out" like? Have you added any hardware lately?
  20. Can you see the date by hovering your mouse over the clock in the task bar?
  21. Hmm.. Well I know if you click on the "new" icon next to a thread it will take you to the last unread message. I'm not sure if you already knew that.
  22. It works for the quick reply and board(NOT individual forums) areas too. E.g.: I have "Provider Discussion and Reviews (NON-US Providers)" hidden, since I don't need to go there.
  23. No matter what anyone says "C" is still for cookie. Damn you PBS!
  24. True. D-Link uses Admin as the ID and no password.
