  1. don't worry, you will learn in time. since the common student's use of a computer isn't much technical, there's little chance that you can mess up. just remember this few things. 1. make sure you have decent security programs installed(anti-virus, anti-spyware,firewall..) 2. be careful in browsing sites that are most likely to have viruses and spywares (cough..porn sites..cough) 3. be careful when dealing with the registry and other system files. read descriptions and make sure you know what you're doing 4. and most importantly, always have a backup.
  2. oh, ok. sorry,i didn't get it the first time.
  3. there's a way around that. you can simply partition your hd(if you haven't already) and save all your needed data on the spare partition. then you can format the partition with the windows installation. if you're going to partition your hd, i recommend using gparted. look here http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
  4. what phew are you talking about cool?
  5. you sound like you want your canopy to be struck by lightning. nothing wrong with that,as long as your canopy is grounded. if it isn't, you have a high risk of frying your beloved computer.
  6. for me, i don't think i will be using it(if open DNS fails, you revert back to default smartbro DNS?) but again, that's just me. if it gives you satisfactory results, then go ahead with using it.
  7. no,you didn't.
  8. it rained there in your area? it's blazing hot here.
  9. hmm, is what you're doing called "advertising an advertisement"?
  10. yes, i always enjoy learning stuff. the only thing you can't learn is stupidity. (translated: ang hindi mo lang pwede matutunan ay ang pagiging tanga.)
  11. yes, it is one ended. if you look at your canopy, you will see that it is connected beside cable connected to your pc.
  12. it's been a while since i last posted a speed test so here. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Download Connection is:: 384 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Download Speed is:: 47 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Main) Test Time:: 2007/09/09 - 9:59pm Bottom Line:: 7X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 21.79 sec Tested from a 579 kB file and took 12.344 seconds to complete Download Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 50 % faster than the average for host (smartbro.net) D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-WD1OYNGRP User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6 [!] exactly as smartbro advertised. ok, im going now, im really late for school.
  13. hmm, choose whatever floats your boat then. imho, the alternate DNS server is where you are directed when you connect to the main server. that means if you can't connect to open DNS, you go back to smartbro's DNS. and for me, smartbro's DNS sucks. well, i'll be gone for awhile, i'm already late for school.
  14. nice speed. a little more tweaking would help that.
  15. oh, ok. does it give you faster speed than using open DNS alone?
  16. when you first joined, my connection was broken, so when i came back, i just welcomed every one new, including Azgauth, in general also, most veterans suggest testing with bigger file sizes. its like letting your connection rev up and go, whereas small files may seem fast because of sudden and short bursts.
  17. hmm, i haven't tried doing that.
  18. what the??.. you guys are comparing specs now? at 3:00 am? get some sleep! anyway, i won't be sharing my specs, don't want to humiliate myself. and also, reformatting should be your last resort. when things go wrong, you should just revert to a previous, safer setting. that's what back ups and system restore are for. @ SiraComputer - about those trial period expiration, you could find a way around it. you mentioned before that you download torrents, try to be resourceful. i don't approve of that method though. for me; its free, or leave it be.
  19. yes, always make a backup if your going to apply tweaks, specially if it includes changes to the registry.
  20. @ Azgauth - try downloading something, you never know, it might be true. @ dudeBRO2k7 - cleaning up includes the registry too. and the 20 steps thee are applicable to anyone, even if you haven't tweaked your canopy. i believe it is also applicable to other ISPs. P.S. Azgauth, did you notice that your taking a test with a different host? it doesn't say smartbro anymore.
  21. well, i don't know how far caloocan is from manila, and also how to get there. i also get those speeds, 250+, from time to time. smartbro is wifi, therefore fluctuations and stability are abound. try taking a speed test now and posting it.
  22. maybe the driver you downloaded is the one you already are using. check the name of the driver and its date.
  23. i saw you online earlier, and i was sort of waiting for your first post. welcome to the forum! try tweaking your connection. here are some useful links. http://www.testmy.net/t-18616 http://www.testmy.net/t-20438
  24. yes, distance is a factor too.
