Linksys Router BEFSR41, ports wont open :(
FallowEarth replied to cdhotfire's topic in Networking and Hardware
I'd check out the parts about port range filtering, port range forwarding, port triggering, UPnP forwarding, make sure you're using DMZ to Linksys's specs, and maybe try the admin factory defaults. -
Total cost for "Return to Space" mission?
FallowEarth replied to DonnieB's topic in General Discussion
I am from Canada, and I realize that we don't add too much to the space program, but I support NASA and am totally for space exploration. I don't think that the results it yields can be related to the money invested. If the American tax dollars need to be put in more important places at any time, then the space program should be put on pause for that duration, but not abandoned. It is a novelty, yes, and entirely experimental, but is something that is going to advance humanity, and I believe that we will get far more out of it than we put in, exponentially. I wish that all nations could put forth efforts to amalgamate on one international goal to discover space, but I do believe that day is not far off from today. I think that it is the one thing that can unite this planet. -

Linksys Router BEFSR41, ports wont open :(
FallowEarth replied to cdhotfire's topic in Networking and Hardware
There seem to be many different versions of that router, from the Linksys support site: BEFSR41 V1.0 BEFSR41 V3.0 BEFSR41 V4.0 BEFSR41-CA(FR) V1.0 BEFSR41-CA(FR) V3.0 BEFSR41W V1.0 BEFSR41W-CA(ENG) V1.0 BEFSR41W-CA(FR) V1.0 Do you know which version you have? -
Are you looking for modem advice? I've heard some members here say that the 5100 is more dependable than the 5120. Toshiba PCX2600 is a good modem too, for some competition. RCA and Ambit are good too.

Hey The Dog. I just built a PC. I would recomend newegg and tigerdirect, their barbones systems are a good place to start. If that's not for you, they have really good prices on all components. There's always ebay for parts, too. Barebones systems are really good for getting started with the base of your PC, then you can customize from there. I'd start looking at either the CPU or motherboard to build on. If you're big on Intel or AMD, look at the prices of the models they currently offer, and where their market is heading. Of course, prices are higher for the newer technology, but the new stuff will be the most supported for future upgrades. If you're looking at the motherboard, look for the chipsets, CPU socket types, PCI expansion slots, video card sockets, RAM expansion, stuff like that. It all depends on what you want now, and how much upgrading you want to do in the future. One thing I would suggest is getting a solid PSU, 400 watt at the least for dependability.

Painfully Slow Uploads on RoadRunner
FallowEarth replied to eblues's topic in Networking and Hardware
Hey eblues, welcome to the forum. What about the upload with the direct connection? -
It looks like there are two versions of that router. If you go to THIS site, you'll see what I mean. Make sure you have got the support for the correct version. Once you select your correct version, you can try the firmware download there. I would also try the link to email tech support, try to summarize throroughly.

Strange...when I go to the Dlink support site, the lowest model for the DES line they support is the 1009G.

Dont Try To Beat It, Its UNTOUCHABLE
FallowEarth replied to OLDJIMMYBONES's topic in Show off your speed
That sounds about right... And it's like some ppl take it personally that their test was cached. Some are like "oh, ok, my bad" while others will argue it to the grave. I mean, i just doesn't make sense....you can't have 2x, 3x, 10x, 1000x or whatever your cap. It just doesn't happen. People: it's a cached test. Yes, that's right, CACHED. Accept it and move on with your life. sheesh. -

Wasn't there another member that typed like this, lots of caps....?? -
Ummm....I think that the correct procedures are found HERE, or perhaps HERE.

As far as I'm concerned, the more people, the merrier. More members means a more dynamic community. There are so many people on the west coast, I know that their addition to this site would only add to its personality. I can only say: tell all your friends. This site is going to be one of the biggest on the Internet, of that I have no doubts.

One should be very careful when changing a lightbulb/light bulb/lamp. To begin, the step ladder is important and should be tested for dependablility beforehand. Next, the breaker should be switched to off for the procedure. Then one should make sure that the replacement lightbulb has the correct wattage. The best way to be sure is by checking the previous bulb, it should say on it. Best care is wished to all that are replacing lightbulbs.

Hey, amc11890. Firewalls can sometimes interfere with your speed test. For purposes of testing, try disabling your firewall and test again. Also make sure that you aren't downloading anything else or that any other programs are utilising your connection while you are testing. Try a test mirror close to you, found HERE. You can also try VanBuren's cablenut tweaks to maximize your connection, info found HERE.

This site has the best forum on the Internet, hands down.

I use IP Tools, found HERE, to monitor connections to my computer. You can see the IP addresses trying to contact your computer. I would also try using another firewall to try to block remote access. As far as free firewalls go, Sygate is one that is very solid. You can find it HERE

Welcome to the forum, CletusTSJY Often a firewall can interfere with your connection integrity, especially with online gaming. Disabling the firewall, or adjusting the security settings, can help. You can try using cablenut tweaks to increase your speeds. Info can be found HERE.
