If you go to the download section of the RR homepage, you'll see that you have free accesss to download the EZ Armor Security Suite (firewall, antivirus, antispam, antispyware).

Ok, did you reboot your computer, ie. restarted it? or did you format and reinstall windows, hence wiping everything clean and starting fresh? Rebooting doesn't clear cablenut tweaks, formatting does.

need help with my RR 5000/512

With dl speed testing that low, cablenut will not likely bring you up to 5Mbps. First off, check the links below: | | | | | | | V -
Just Ordered RoadRunner!!! Got A Question Though...
FallowEarth replied to wyantm06's topic in RoadRunner (Time Warner Cable)
You don't have to tweak, it's just an option if you want ot try boosting your speed a bit. Not necessary though, if that's what you mean. -

you can always ask for help here if that's the case! -
I'd suggest looking through the following links for some pointers, or for something you may have overlooked: 1st stop: https://testmy.net/forum/t-2097 2nd stop: https://testmy.net/topic-4257 Sometimes software can interfere with the test results: firewalls, IM's, AV's, p2p's, toolbars/optimizers, and the likes, so try to test with these turned off or disabled. You can also find cablenut tweaks here, just download the most current zip file and select the setting for your advertised speeds.

FallowEarth replied to wyantm06's topic in RoadRunner (Time Warner Cable)
Be sure to ask for a newer modem too: Motorola SB5100, Toshiba PCX2600, RCA DCM425. These ones are the most dependable, they'll last you. There's also the option to go wireless through TWC, if you're into that. If you don't have a router, you can also lease one through TWC, that way it's a one stop fix for all. There's also free security programs (EZ Armor: firewall, antivirus, anti spam, and spyware protection) so you might as well get those too. You get troubleshooting for them through RR too. -

You can always try cablenut tweaks found HERE but copy and paste your speeds here first so that we can help if something goes wrong. -

a welcome to you, wyantm06 If you got the standard package, you should get 5 Mbps download and 384 Kbps up, or on the premium package it is 8/512. You best bet to max these out is to go here: 1st stop: https://testmy.net/forum/t-2097 2nd stop: https://testmy.net/topic-4257 -
welcome to the forum, saintly-hellion sounds like you're on the right track! what are your advertised speeds? have you tried to test your speed with a direct connection to your modem? You can find support and upgrades for that model router here just select which one you have.

My greetings as well, bribri135 Since both computers on your network are having trouble, I am tempted to say that your router may be slowing you down. It could also be your modem though. The best way to refresh these is by doing a powercycle like this: -shut down computers -power down router by pulling the power cord -power down the modem using the same method as above -let everything sit at least 1 minute, check that all connections are secure -power up your modem, wait 1 min -power up your router, wait 1 min -bring up your computers then post some test results once again to see if there is any difference! You can also bypass the router (connect your computer directly to the modem) to see if you are getting full speeds that way, that will narrow down whether it's a router issue, or a service issue. You can get firmware updates for the router here: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGU624.asp and current drivers for the adapters here: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WG511U.asp make sure that you have both, but since they are both from Netgear, they should be 100% compatable. If you could also run some traceroutes and post them here, that would be great.

I have used the AVG + ZA combo and it works like a charm. Right now I have Avast + Sygate, which is equally as good.

from http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-6025 Step 6: Restoring TCP/IP -click start, control panel, switch to classic view, open "Network Connections" -if you are hard-wired, look to "Local Area Connection"; if you are wireless, look to "Wireless Connection" -right-click your connection, choose properties -click install -choose protocol, click add -click "have disk" -where it says "copy manufacturer's files from" type without quotations "c:windowsinf" then click ok -choose "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click ok -close windows and restart computer -
How do you mean? (for the benefit of myself and others)
