  1. Yea, people always say I look 100 years younger then I am , I think there just flattering me.
  2. Nice pizza box !!! Is that the original keyboard ? The tactile ? I don't remember it having any other buttons on it. If you had it Id'e give my friends last dollar for that thing !
  3. No I agree , too many entries in the host file , and it slows down the connection , just as too many rules would in a firewall. Iv'e installed spybots host files, and had good luck , but you have to go a step further by keeping up to date , with a block list such as blutack or the likes. What have you seen as far as performance between spybot , and any other program that effects the host file ?
  4. By all means I'm on the same page, I'm in those files quite often myself , either on a server or locally. Please don't take my ramblings the wrong way, I'm just on a trip of censorship these days. But by all means , you have every right to do as you please with what comes into and go out from your machine or any other machine you own. I just get carried away sometimes , so again , please don't let my passion on subjects make you feel as if I'm bashing you or anyone else for doing what they want to , it's not meant that way. I think more people should take the host files very serious , it's an awesome way to control many connections. And again , i really don't understand why this is not closer to the top of the GUI controls on windows machines. It's one of those sections that is vital to security. Anything you pick up I wish you will be inclined to share, so that others can use the information. You can protect the people using the machine by inserting different IP's in the host file , so certain places can or cannot be accessed. Right at the source , no program needed
  5. Yes , it's terrible when you connections is " sucking " , in light of ????
  6. Ha... Ha lol yes , they has macintosh in the 80's , I had to look up the year when you said that to make sure I was really not 20 years younger then I thought :laugh:This guy right here is the one I started in school on <center></center>Got in trouble several times in that class, I was doing other things with the computer then the assignment lol Sure would like to have one of these guy's to mess around with.
  7. alrighty then slowfreddy , yet again out of the blue I enjoy a smile , and it's your fault ! thank you You can make a" hackintosh " if you so desire , this allows you to run OSX on your x86 machine. Although I've not done it , so I cannot say if it's worth the trouble. Iv'e use apples on and off since roughly 1880 something, in the 5th grade we had a computer class in which were all the original macintosh machines. I might be wrong on the date, it's been 25 years or so. Been a regular use for the last 5-7 years. As the releases come out , Iv'e learned to wait, this time i waited because the discussion leaned toward " the new OS looks like an iPad close. Which turned me off. So aside my quirks, waiting long enough for any serious patches if needed, the time would be closing in on a decision to change, if I was going to at all. I already do not like the fact that the OS comes from the app store. I know what there doing , or at least my idea, there trying to save billions on marketing paper plastic , shipping and everything that goes with releasing such a popular item for the world. Fine ,great , I'm all for forward thinking as Jobs always was, but please allow me to burn this thing to get a fresh install. Which I would normally do , when I feel like it to be blunt. Yes i know , I can burn the thing. Just bitching. feels good , and the wife appreciates me getting it out on something other than herself Anyhow , looking for inout from those users that are already familiar with Lion. And those that have test driven mountain lion. Or hell also from those that want to know more about getting a much more stable , clean , faster , and all around lovely computing experience. hahaha
  8. Iv'e waited long enough , how are you doing with Lion ? I know Mountain Lion will be coming out eventually , so at this point , should i wait for it , or get into Lion now ?
  9. I'm no guru on making money , if I were I'de be in Aruba full time lol So as far as being wrong , Iv'e been wrong more times then most people have searched for the truth. There are more things that any one person can learn or become fluent at in a lifetime. And with the way things move , you really have to specialize in a certain field before being able to boast about your knowledge. Of course thats my opinion . And I don't mean to sound as if blocking ads will kill the net , but it is a large portion of the way people fund there projects. What is it that is driving you to dislike ads ? Is it the fact they are there, or that you feel there causing you a security issue , I can only speculate whats got under your skin about it. I am curious though , it may help me in heading towards what might be a more presentable way to advertise. I'm not bashing your drive to learn adblocking , I think it's great. In fact who knows what other field this might lead you to take interest in. As far as the CSS I can't help , unless your running OS X or linux.
  10. I run three ecommerce site for others , one with 10K uniques daily and the other two are much smaller. All three of them are down significantly in nearly all the ads we can toss at them. The several I play with of my own can't really be counted as there small and more or less for local customers. I try and block certain companies ads and allow more relevant ads that the user might be more interested in , or likely to buy from there browsing history , and keywords. In the last several years clicks have dropped dramatically, this to me would mean several things could be wrong , until you look at the pageviews , and compare them to clicks. The pageviews are fine , increased on one , but clicks slowed down on all. This shows people are running ad blockers and script blockers. As many different ads run small affiliate scripts for tracking and other reasons. It's a known issue that people are not clicking as much , and simply going to the site they want to buy from. People are more experienced in a sense. Some ads pay per view , other pay per click , some pay when someone buys something after a click. Some pace cookies , so that if the " clicker " buys the product in a set amount of time , the account still gets credit. There are many ways to get contracts. Here's a quick read to explain a little about the slow down. http://dataplusinsig...ysis-of-clicks/
  11. Once everyone blocks most or all of ads , you'll start seeing sites that refuse to offer there free services for those that block them , simply because as stated , is there only way to stay online. To each there own of course , but I never found a real good reason to block advertisements. I mean if the site stays within recommended ad amounts , no popups and redirects , then who cares. The more affiliate ads that get blocked , the crazier the ads will get. The latest reports are not looking great for overall performance by google , and you can rest assured , if there showing such a slow down , almost all others are as well. As far as the host file goes , I'll grab blutac list or something, one of the many compilations of tripe , and do it at the firewall vis cidr. There are many other ways as well, thats just a simple one to keep the crap that has nothing to do with what your looking for from taking over the page. That scares people away instantly anyhow , yet people continue to put that crap on there page trying to make a couple cents.
  12. I agree totally, raises a brow as to why, considering how high the probability of manipulation this file has. If I had to place a number on how many of the machines I get in where either the host file and or the browser proxy settings have been used to get the machine connected to a botnet , I might have to say nearly 50% of them. It is simple once you take a few to learn how to use it. Maybe a good thing would be to start a new thread discussing it.
  13. Only issue I have with blocking ads , is so many people that we rely on getting information from , rely on ads to fund there sites. Many of which are increasingly finding it more difficult to continue , even though they might have a large user base. Other then this , yes by all means pay attention to the host file. I'm not really sure why discussions about the host file are so few , the file is one of the most important in the system , and can be manipulated by many different programs , good and bad to achieve different results.
  14. And I might add that allowing your your internal network to be pinged is asking for trouble. There are bots that scan 24 /7 for responses. Once a machine is found , it searches further , by doing a standard port scan , to see what ports are open , and which could be vulnerable. If it see's anything listening , say 443 or 21 , 25, 995, 113 ect. anything super standard , it waits for responses by ill written applications to find a way in and sets up shop.
  15. Chances are your router is blocking the ping request. There are settings in most for this.
  16. I would have to say most definitely not worry about anything bad. No more than any one of us browsing the internet. If you are watching a movie on your machine , while testing , you may be using a bit of system resources , so a test may show a slight lower score . If you are streaming a movie , to your machine , then most definitely , you will see a significantly lower score. Because the available bandwidth will be less , the movie stream. I'm sure ca3le will have more and or better answers for you , thats my take on it all.
  17. lol " red mess " I am curious though , the radiator is metal fins right , so theoretically dropping this thing in a bucket of water, would keep the temps at ambient, thats after the water attenuated to the ambient temps. Keeping this thing in an inconspicuous area out of the sun and low ( low as the pump pressure would allow ) , would this give you a benefit in the heat of the summer ? I would think it would. If the water in the bucket was kept at a reasonable temperature. Hell if a bucket of water in the room looks a bit like your trying to evaporate wine , grab something that looks like a planter or whatever. Keep a tight lid on it , and force the tubes through holes in the lid of the said " bucket "
  18. Whats that red stuff you spilt on your desktop , better get a towel lol I suppose i might have been harsh saying keep the fan cranked up, where i should have said something such as when your gaming or streaming a movie across the network, or rendering an image or such. Guess when I was into it I just wanted to use the tools closest to the core system as I could. I figured the further away it was , the more likely a % fault by the time it got to the GUI.
  19. In my opinion , if you don't notice a difference , then the machine is not being pushed hard enough. Sure , any program can emulate blasting the CPU with useless threads , but the reality is only true heavy usage can push the limits. Thats my opinion.
  20. So totally agree buntz. So my thoughts are out there , I don't believe in using any program to clock a proc, in any sense, I might have skimmed over what was going on in this thread , but that what I got. Maybe I'm off , but I remember reading the complexities that you went through ninjageek, and that's just too far for such a simple task. Unless of course I'm wrong , and you had felt over your head in the BIOS ? And boot any program that is crap filled, all you need to know is what the temps are, that it ! If that bulb is bad hanging under the CPU ,. or it is crap from the factory , your screwed from the get go. Nothing will fix that. Do everything in the BIOS , and turn that liquid cooled fan to full, if you cannot control the fan voltage with a dial , or a switch , make it happen , very simple thing to do, keep your juice clean and connection tight, simple and golden. If you still don't want that thing , I might know someone who is interested.
  21. Sorry your experience with liquid was a pain. And since i have no physical access to a liquid cooler , I cannot even compare. So I'm going by random but somewhat directed thought patterns. And I think have a valid point when you talk about ambient temperatures being a major factor in the quality of the heat removal process. At the same time , the water will reach a critical point , where it can no longer be effective, but that threshold must be high , considering the temps a CPU and or other components operate at. In a quick 6 month course we did a study on how different liquids react to dispersing heat compared to others, and proved the chemical makeup of the coolant plays a major factor. Even much more than the evaporator , or in this case , the radiator.
  22. Welcome to testmy.net rickyrescue , jump in wherever you want , everyone here is ready to talk tech and bandwidth , and whatever else you have on your mind.
  23. My thoughts are the reason you say the liquid did not show the same cooling effects as air, or close, is this enigma of a part were missing. If done properly , liquid will show significant cooling effects over air , on any given day. In normal circumstances at least.
  24. It's always been free. Basically they win because of there contracts with advertisers get paid if there are clicks or not. So it's a good easy dump for stagnate domains. My thoughts are there are so many illegitimate domains out there hosting google ads , that otherwise would be worthless without. Unless of course the owner creates there own page with usable content. That google is trying to clean up on behalf of the advertisers. Domains I'm referring to would be an example~ tstmy.net , easy mistype can make a nice chunk in adsense. Illegal? Yes , enforced ? No . Would have to be discovered and brought up to ICANN.
  25. Thanks for your thoughts. I should have marked this solved. The correct way to do this would be to use capitol " -P " when specifying a port in this manner.
