  1. Iv'e recompiled httpd with a few things i needed, so this could be something else causing this. Mostly concerned with the NI = -4 1136 root 15 -4 13396 696 360 S 0.0 0.1 0:00.00 udevd Started looking because something , is using a lot of memory, and i cannot run atop for some reason. I'm ready to chuck this whole psa thing , it's been getting in my way too often recently for comfort. And it eats system resources like nobodies business. Although the host accounts for processes of this type in allocating resources , you cannot just chuck apache and start over without making plesk vomit.
  2. You might as well stay with centOS , it's the same thing as Red Hat, branded differently for support purposes. Ever run anything gentoo ?
  3. Sacrelig , blowing a CPU apart in the name of fun j/k I always wanted to do that, just never willing to sacrifice a CPU for it
  4. No one out there is running sabayon ? I'm shocked
  5. So Iv'e been experimenting with sabayon , what a different world gentoo is then I'm used to with centOS and other distros. Anyone have input ? Gentoo fork or sabayon in general ?
  6. Hey if all of us that jumped down someone els's throat once or more were to stand up at once , the place would break out in a huge laugh, myself more then included. And I agree , testmy.net is much more consistent as ca3le constantly improves everything about the way tests are taken ( or whatever the does behind that curtain )
  7. You can actually grab cisco network assistant from there site if you must, it's a java controlled application that can be used to admin the device though any browser of today and be golden with very little previous knowledge. If you want to get into administering the thing properly then yea, you'll need a "cisco cable " , or console cable , which is really just a RJ45 on a RS232 ( serial ) , along with the RJ45 to a shell , or putty through tFTP. Iv'e even used the above in concert with a RS232 to USB in a few cases. Basic clearing instructions with none of the above will set the switch to " dummy mode " , or make it simply a non managed switch for use outside of any router which supports DHCP. Just amuse me and I'll go away with it all
  8. And this is really why I suggested grabbing up something like this cisco switch You don't have to worry about the quality crapshoot , the switch was new at around 2 grand and made for enterprise situations. You can find many many others out there for free shipping , there are thousands of them EOL right now. Hell , you can make the thing a dummy switch if you don't want to learn to admin ios, and it'll just do what switches do, supply a route. You have a lot of equipment there , I'm sure you have an old machine , or parts in the closet , installing something like pfsense is free and used worldwide by many high end mission critical offices and households. The machine can be anything made roughly in the past 20 years , although in the last 10 would be much better. I'm just voicing my personal experience, I don't mean to push you around. I just know what you'll get going out and buying something new for what your doing , will not out perform my suggestion in any way. And the capabilities you would be gaining outweigh ten fold. Whatever you do , have fun with it and let it expand you !
  9. Life is a " pissing contest " , without personalities, idea's and thoughts, experiences , triumphs and losses, the love of discrepancies between words, and those who point them out, where would we all be ? And your a big part of it all , thank you
  10. How wide spread is 100Mb in any area of the USA ? Not much . The future for that will be more then well past the EOL of anything not even on the market yet as far as residential equipment is concerned. Save your bucks , get some "old" equipment, learn how to use it, wire the place up cat6 plenum and have a coke and a smile.
  11. Wont do much good internally. You really have to ask yourself, am I moving files all the time so large , within my house , that I need more then 100Mb ? Really ? Sure , some of you might , but even so the best argument cannot explain away being able to exceed your incoming bandwidth by 10X ? You can stream how many HD movies through 100Mb two ? The gigabit for the average household is useless and a sham aligned with markets.
  12. Life is that cut and dry to you ? I'm sorry , reading must be a real task for you at times
  13. It's funny that IE6 is worst , I see a whole lot of people still using it.
  14. Actually most solar technology made since around 1990 will absorb light from incandescent bulbs. I have a hard time now using those gushy membrane keyboards, no resistance and quiet, YUK ! I have tons of the stinking things and have to use one on the other side of the office for a local connection sometimes to the rest of the machines. If anyone has an old IBM tactile laying around , I'm all ears. Cherries welcome. Anything ALPS and I'm on it , just speak up.
  15. We hear it over and again, and again........ apple suck blah blah blah..... Then , once actually used for a short period of time, you understand what you were missing in computing all this time. People forget who helped start the entire personal computing experience. People forget or do not know , or are sadly misinformed as to the realities in differences between a windows machine and a apple produced device. You really cannot compare them , not on the same level in any way. Sure , if all you do is brows around looking for the latest funny , you'll be better off getting the mini, but you'll still be way overpowered. Price ? Ok go on ebay or OWC and grab something qualified by a pro for a couple hundred. Don't say price , thats a load. It could be said the same about a windows machine. Interesting enough , when you start using an apple machine , if you normally just did emails and social networking ect , you'll soon find yourself delving into creating some of the items your passing around , with ease. And to me , thats what it's about , not just standing on the sidelines and tossing the ball back when it comes to me , it's about getting in there and getting dirty, creating whatever it is that can be created, thats what it is ! The net was and is made by just that idea, and I'm sorry to say , i do not believe , for the most part , windows promotes this as Apple does. Or any linux OS for that matter. /rant
  16. You can put together a firewall and router with an old machine laying around, grab a $20. cisco 2900 series 24 port switch off ebay, and be done with it.,
  17. Dude grab the Matias tactile pro3, I used the apple thin for a while, turns out no resistance from those thin no run keys was torturing my hands. Since I touch type the tactile keys were amazing for me, reminded me of using the original Apple Macantosh. Iv'e not looked back in the roughly 18 months since Iv'e had a tactile keyboard of quality. Oh , you like to move away from the machine and type ? This cord on this puppy is at least three foot. Sorry , 56.7 inches ! And it is not one of those thin spaghetti cords , it's a solid shielded cable. Five year warranty which Iv'e not come close to thinking about using. http://matias.ca/tactilepro3/index.php As for the solar , whatever , there's always something new, take it if you think it will help you.
  18. I'll agree with you dlewis, I can use different user agents to view what the differences are between mozzilla and webkit, but safari still has a lot of random memory issues .
  19. They all suck anymore. Honestly. Bloated and full up of items people should know well how to use aside from the browser. Chrome hides it's issues well, so Id'e have to say it's on top. Safari comes in second but each new version has a new show stopper. IE ? Please, playing catchup since people realized there was an option. Firefox is really a good browser , but too many possible features in any one place cause people to go looking for extension instead of doing what a browser was meant for. People will install anything anymore due to the irrational allowance of anyone who can write a few lines of code, put it up for the world. Many of these features cripple the livelihood of websites.
  20. You have the perfect scenario for running the automatic test set at 30 minutes , or less, for a few days.
  21. With me it is. I'm always looking deeper into what I may have borked . You would think i might learn to just take a step back and look at the surface. Everything running as it should. Iv'e set up a local snap server using rsnapshot. Now to redo it all on that 1650 running raid 1 mirror, and include the entire server with databases.
  22. Solution = -P not -p Upper case -P port specification. Seems after all the most simple solution is hidden in Plain view.
  23. I've been mirroring files from a remote server to a local server, always always have a backup. Using the following rsync -avz -e 'ssh -p xxxx' [email protected]:/var/ /var Typing it in is not an issue, if i remember to do it every few days. I know I need a key to allow the cron access , or not ask for a password each time defeating the automated process. Iv'e made my key on the local server and tried uploading it to the remote server scp /root/rsync/key.pub [email protected]:/root Which fails due to not being on port 22 So thats actually where I'm stuck. I know I need to specify the proper port , and have tried several things but it always fails, I'm obviously not getting it right.
  24. you do know there is a contextual menu right click on a mac yes ?
  25. Been ridiculously busy with strange new priorities myself. Last couple days Iv'e started walking again. So I'm thrilled. Just sign on , leave it on , and wait for someone to come in and speak. Thats the way.
