  1. Hope we did not lose too many WU's , the PS3 started the day he started cleaning things up, 6 WU's completed lol The main server is back up caching right now , all external databases are shut until it's finished.
  2. Looking at Stanford's stat page , no one's point have updated since the 11th Either way I'm sure things will come back online soon. I'll have a look at there forums.
  3. Not really the best thing with OS X to reformat or as windows would be. Especially since he does not have any disks , each apple version has it's own flavor of OS , specific to the machine and only the version of the machine , they will not even install on another. Roco if you MUST wipe the OS for some unknown reason, if I can get the model, I have almost all of the iBook disks left over from past machines that no longer exist. And many other factory disk sets. Although I believe we can deal with it w/o having to re image.
  4. I'm looking for a basic netbook , something proven , stable and realistically priced for 70 year old peeps Pretty much just for emails ect
  5. Download and install http://www.silverex.org/download/ Select DALnet as the network Select testmy.net channel #TMN Register your nickname , placing your new password and email Verify yourself by text captcha Go check your email for the verification code and follow the instructions ( I have not received the verification email as of yet, I will update w/ screenshot when i do ). After the verification process , it is all but completed. I will update post when I get the email.
  6. OK , gimme a minute. What client are you using ?
  7. Once you get connected to irc.dal.net , before trying to get into any rooms , type the following ( with your new password and the email you wish to use, and do NOT pay anything ! There are free clients out there all over the place. I do not know how the server itself is being handled at this time. /nickserv register password email address and you should get a verification message from the server , then an email I can register a new nick w/ shots if needed
  8. With this server you can register your name permanently. Things have changed a little bit since I have used IRC as well. Source Iv'e registered with success using these instructions. Just check your VALID email soon after you register , it expires within three hours if not acted upon. I believe this is a permanent register on this server. May be different on this server ,none the less i believe you must use your nick, after 30 days it goes dormant, but you can still reclaim it. I'll have a poke around and see if i cannot find the info.
  9. Great analogy dn0 , thank you.
  10. Got me bud, however I might look close at what the MB your getting to drop it in , and see that they will match up well , and I don't mean fit or function. I'll likely be putting something together in the next year , so I have to start in with the reviews and upcoming myself. Do tell what you decide on , after others have real input for you
  11. As for the DNS servers , personally , I would never run my ISP servers. You can use opendns servers 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 If you are running windows XP , goto control panel > Network connections > right click on the active adapter > select " properties " Look for and double click " Internet protocol [TCP/IP] " once new screen pops up , in the " general " tab " tick the " Use the following DNS server address " And type in the open DNS server IP's. Make sure to reset the connection , it may do this on it's own , but to be sure everything registers , I would log out and back. Or even restart if you feel the need. There are other ways I am sure , this is a simple quickie. You can also set these servers within your router , so that all machines on the network will use the openDNS servers. If you are running another windows operating system , things should be close to the same , if not , please post back and someone will assist you with that.
  12. I cannot get into too much at the moment for lack of brain power left of the day. But looking at the points given for WU returned per client , tells us what the quality of the WU means to the researchers and mathematicians. Example would be running OS X C2D @ 2.4Gh produces roughly 40 ppd. Thats running full power to the CPU for 24 hours. Hence the counterproductive if we look at power cycles Vs return Vs power consumption.
  13. I'll vouch for Lian Li products, very fine builds. Should be interesting to see what you get put together Hopefully with pics as you go
  14. I'll bite for a bit. Although the folding core for CPU had suffered tremendously in the last couple years. They have focussed more on the GPU, therefore running anything short of a high end system , really anymore is counter productive.
  15. Gotta run , I'll do more testing when i get back in VERY cool and useful tool in so many ways, to be able to test at several key locations with testmy.net is priceless !!!!!! Thank you ca3le !!!!
  16. The new addition to my family , Lola , the sexy yoda dog. She's a black brindle french bulldog. 12 weeks old. Yea , the eye's are like that when the sun or a bright light hit , crazy ! This second one I tweaked the image in aperture a bit , got lazy and said looks good lol
  17. Made me take another look at the damn pic , and I have to say , screenshot doctored up to appear as brokded ?
  18. Yes it has been a while I suppose fast is held within the user. A friend was still using dialup up until about a year ago , which he had to bind two lines to get avg 75-90K on a good day, he uses the net all day but not generally graphically. I remember when he caved and went DSL, if I remember correctly he topped out around 500K upload and said it was like wildfire and he had no reason to need anymore bandwidth for what he does lol But the guy is an old schooler, has everything tweaked out to perfection.
  19. True that triran And you have some very good real world information HDBoy.
  20. I agree with triran , I'm located in NW Ohio , Iv'e been experiencing the same for more then one year. I used to get routed north , through Chicago , then into limelight networks ( groupon ) then Dallas, things were much better then and I was irritated at the low throughput , latency is and was near 30-48 ms. Iv'e been trying to pin this down since.
  21. The connection on your desktop is not at fault. It is more likely within the modem / router Have you gotten into the modem firmware ? Most are default http://192.168.100.1 You'll want to have a look and make sure DHCP server is turned OFF
  22. Which model is it ? the 13 " ? Looks larger then that on the screenshot. Anyhow , i get my goodies here , never once had an issue, not saying others haven't had bad parts , none the less, bad ass place to get all your mac stuff . Been using them for some time now. >>>>>>> http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/MB13LCDTKG/
  23. Hi Disobedience , Are you trying to connect via hardwire or wireless ? If wired , it sounds as if you have an IP conflict between the wireless router and possibly the modem is as well a router ? In other words , your desktop is connected via the modem , not wired to the wireless router ? Only reason i say this is if all other devices can connect wireless, and the hardwired desktop is having issues , that tells us that the IP that is last used in the desktop is already being used by a wireless device when it tries to get an IP. Make sure if this is the case ( the modem is a router that has DHCP server turned on , ) turn OFF the DHCP server within the modem, and connect the desktop to the wireless router. Allow the wireless router to do all the IP leasing.
  24. I can appreciate your comment entirely. Remembering back when all we had was 56K dial up , it was fantastic ! Loved every minute of it. Then came DSL and a whole new world opened up. An old saying comes to mind , we don't appreciate what we have until it is gone. So true. Quite possibly this is what drives the human race forward. Or what we like to call or think is forward.
