  1. nope Just for the mamaT, and strictly for her, no one else can look at this ok, hey ! I mean it not really. A legit test below. Sorry if I "disappointed " anyone by that last failed attempt to be a funny man. ::::::::::.. Download Stats ..:::::::::: Download Connection is:: 17308 Kbps about 17.3 Mbps (tested with 25600 kB) Download Speed is:: 2113 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Main) Test Time:: 2009/12/07 - 6:38am Bottom Line:: 302X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 0.48 sec Tested from a 25600 kB file and took 12.117 seconds to complete Download Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 203.12 % faster than the average for host (rr.com) D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-Z2QSND0EY User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_2; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.3 Safari/531.9 I've been watching to my connection and the data rate compared to what data is being moved. Check this out ! if I test a couple times in a row here at testmy.net , which I always found worked best, maybe setting up a solid route through the proper routers after a couple times. Here's what happens, the connection gets throttled depending on the specific type of packet ! Yea, I said it, packet snooping. or sniffing.
  2. Well hell, I figured since I made it so far out there ~~~~~ That no one would think I was serious, , now, in my shame....... I must go chop my cat5 up , into 142 small pieces , and be banished from the interwebs until global warming is questioned............
  3. hehe, nice job dude ! I appreciate that, you've come a long way

  5. I use both mac and pc, have for a while. Work on both regular . So I'm not really biased other then my personal experience with both. As my experience goes, as a rule the mac will in the long term give you less problems, I say this for really no more then two reasons. The first of which is there is no registry in OSX, which as we all know is windows weakest link. OSX grows downward in data vs. the outward (some call it bloat ) of the registry. The data in OSX is added to the end of the code, instead of inserted within and throughout the system in windows. So this keeps things in a little more order. The latest machine I put together running XP consists of an intel DG41RQ and the E7400 proc 4Gb ddr2. This thing screams. The mac I use, and have used for almost two years now is a macbook pro 2.4 core two duo w/ 4Gb ddr2. Both are consistently about the same speeds, and relatively no issues. I have all the same standard software on both from office 07 , to PS CS3/4 ect, but the mac has an advantage over the pc slightly in processing power, I think this is due to again, the registry. You'll love your mac.
  6. No no, I just have the besteststt connection EVar !!!!! It's called <A HREF=http://www.testmy.net/t-11111.msg317125#msg317125/>editttinggggwithekeyyybooorrddeee  :haha:
  7. Yo tstillery, whats up man, enjoyin the sand ? ok, that was bad, hehe Bring me back a little yea ? I know your lovin cruisin that tank around, takin care of what needs to be taken care of ! I remember you said something like " I gotta find something else to do, I'm getting to old for the shit " yea ? Well, your never too old to do what your good at, and what you enjoy ! Hey , at least your not dealing with this cold ass weather were all havin right now ! lol The family say to you, that you should know you got people back here !!!!! And from those here at testmy.net that won't catch this in time to give there thumbs up :icon_thumright: Thanks bro
  8. Here's my CCNA lab, it consists of a Cisco 2624 router , a Catylist 2924_XL switch , a Cisco 2924_XL / EN switch, dell 705-Nas (I just use that to store my configs for telnet into IOS ) and an HP DL380 G3 x3 server. There's also a dell poweredge 1650 not pictured. I've been workin my way to a couple Cisco IP phones , each time I get something, someone wants it, so i sell it , but when I get my hands on the right phones, then I'll be able to start that phase of my studies. I couldn't pass the CCNA w/o that knowledge. Yes, you can still take courses, but you have to pay for the tests as well on an appointment basis only. Then you can begin working your way to the higher levels of certification. You do not want to fail, so i have not taken them, after almost 18 months of working with my own lab, (grew as time went by)I don't feel I'm ready, even if it weren't for the phones. I think someone else might be an authority on the "N" thing, I don't own one, just set them up, and maintain them for them. As far as the networked printers, I always suggest setting aside a slow older machine, and using it for all your network needs, such as a gateway / firewall ( you could use smoothwall, swimmer turned me onto this 3-4 years ago , and a print server, file server , whatever you want. Just makes life easy , and in one place. I have a machine from 91' that hosts as a file server, think it's runnin around 1.XX GHz with 256 rambus, and as it's purpose, it is lightning fast ! As far as the connection, hell, thats up to you, but you'll soon find out that it's not always optimal , maybe even better on the lesser package.
  9. Cisco took took over linksys in 2003, so anything you get from linksys, will be cisco afaik anyhow. Hands down the most widely used networking hardware / software in the world. Hell, there's only 20K people, in the world , with ciscos ccna even less above. IOS is written in it's own language. Personally, I don't have anything else in here. Nor will I install anything else, bt I do have to say, netger has come a really long way in reliability. Even though if I do have to deal with a netgear, I'll install dd-wrt on it, if it's old, then it;s gone, or I wont guarantee any security what so ever. There's just to many ticks in there old software, and i mean two years old. There are no cheap N routers. Some say they get great speeds with them, but I have never seen anything that is worth the extra cost. As far as i am concerned, N, give a range boost, and thats about it.
  10. ok, so how's fedora goin for you ?
  11. I'm just guessing that there may be minute amounts of sulfur in there, even if you dont taste it , and it's nice and clear. When you vaporize it, (take a shower ) it goes through the air, and lands on everything, just happens it corrodes copper a little bit. Even if you don't see too much darkness on the wires in the thing, it can still be there, and generally, it doesn't just wipe off. All the power wires in your machine are copper. And in the walls of your house
  12. Netgear has come a long way, just make sure if you do get a netgear, you get the latest. I used to use dlink, and netgear, now I just comb ebay for all those Cisco 2900's that get sunset, you can get a $2000.00 device, for less then 50 bucks, Iv'e paid 10 for them before! But no wireless there. For that, I'll make a new subnet on a linksys (cisco boards) and there we are .
  13. ::::::::::.. Download Stats ..:::::::::: Download Connection is:: 486238 Kbps about 6520 Mbps (tested with 10025 GB) Download Speed is:: 102745 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Main) Test Time:: 2009/12/04 - 2:01pm Bottom Line:: 158000X faster than 56K 1GB Download in 0.00093 sec Tested from a 10025 GB file and took 0.142 seconds to complete Download Diagnosis:: Awesome! 2000% + : 25358.37 % faster than the average for host (rr.com) D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-7FWCQ4URZ User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.3 Safari/531.9 :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: Gues this T3 line is running good hey ?
  14. I got tired of looking for what they all meant a couple years ago, so I made a txt file with them, just found it while I was looking for something else. Maybe someone can get something out of this. CHMOD = change mode // permissions This applies to a Unix or Unix type based OS. On a windows OS , you'll be changing the permissions ( same thing, just no chmod.) Sorry ☹ U = User / G = Group / W = World R = Readable / W = Writable / X = Executable / - = No permission U G W rwx rwx rwx chmod 777 /filename ~ or path rwx rwx r-x chmod 775 /filename rwx r-x r-x chmod 755 /filename rw- rw- r-- chmod 664 /filename rw- r-- r-- chmod 644 /filename If you have to do it this way, you add them up to get the final value. So to read , and write by owner, would be 600 and so on. The total value is 751 for full permissions. Permissions: 400 read by owner 040 read by group 004 read by anybody (other) 200 write by owner 020 write by group 002 write by anybody 100 execute by owner 010 execute by group 001 execute by anybody
  15. Water, go figure Can you say what you said again , only different for me ? Sometimes I need a little more explainin' lol What did you do at the hub? Where is the connection, compared to where it was, same port ?
  16. I'm wondering if changing the DPI would get you closer ?
  17. They probably have access to outside network quotas for security reasons, it's common practice.
  18. Hell, dont fix it, just ship it to me :haha: Seriously get the numbers off the bad capacitors , then goto Radio Shack , I still get all my , well, most my parts n' pieces from them, have since i was a kid soldering those heathkits, amps, whatever.
  19. Hmm, the one here is a laptop. I had two other ones in here this past week, that did the same thing, one, I had to reformat, it wasn't all that bad, but the same , exact crap ! Virus city ! Another , I had to replace the board, and the case . Why ? I'll tell ya, because it was a dell, and the virus that was originally on there, flashed the BIOS, so big deal, right ? Wrong, on the dell dimension C521 , there were two boards, both AM2, pheonix chip, but one, had a fluke in the code, where the bios looked for the keyboard, before the power was sent to the port, this was ok from the factory, ( for some reason) but once you reset the BIOS, your done ! There is power going to the usb, but not enough to power the KB, so , you can't get into the BIOS to change the boot order , so you can boot to the optical . Dell wants nothing to do with this issue. Imagine that. So I go grab an AM2 board, (I was luckey to get one from my supplier ) , realize out of going to fast, that the dell AM2 CPU heat sink was proprietary ( I already knew that, but after the last several machines I finished up, I just wanted to get this one out, I try and do 1-2 day return) , so I pull out a new AM2 heatpipe I had, awesome right ? Not ! Fukn' dell, designs the board flip side, so nothing will fit into the case ( I knew that too, ever fell like it's your first day ?) So I had only two new cases, one, a $250.00 antech, and I wasnt tossin that out for the mere price of an ASUS AM2 board, and a server case. Off i go on another 1 1/2 hr round trip to grab a $35 case ! Pissed me off !
  20. Your right, but I think he means this one. Since you actually lost speed, you could try and do several things, first , edit the file yourself ! Just change a few things, experiment a little. What i have noticed that usually makes a big difference, if the TCP window, and the receive window . I know there are formulas, but Iv'e never used them, i just take a basically close package , and start messing with it until i get something that works decent. Kind a like the better half Try this, change the receive window , or "rwin " to double what it is now. Reboot , and do several tests. Leave it alone for a while , unless it's aweful, then you still have the numbers, go back.
  21. I have one here JUST like that, that the owner is about ti tear me up, Iv'e been workin on it for a week !!!!!!! So if you have a clue..... This one someone installed some netware S#!t on, and tried to play WoW, but epic fail due to inability to know wft they were doin ! The ethernet ports good, but it's the wireless thats fubared. When I find it, I'll let you know. Ive already re installed the OS becuase it did this then. :/ Same thing you've got going on sounds like.
  22. Thx for the info. on another note, that sig is frickin sick ! Who did it ? On one monitor "Ryan S " almost 3D , not as much on the other one. I see at least four , if not five layers, .....
  23. Nah, just a few things in there, I don't really mess with it that much anymore. I was into it pretty heavy for a while, but got involved in other things. Just don't install any drivers unless your at least 80% sure it's gonna work. Here's where I would start, it'll tell you the commands to "sudo apt-get " what you need , and from where. Linux is great, it's amazing what you take away from staying with it for a while, you can use what you learn in a lot of other applications.
  24. Yea, there's about a million in here
