Guys I have a question..

Is it safe to move the antenna by yourself? I want my antenna higher. can I just do that by myself?

not recommended. refrain from doing it to avoid accidents, might break your canopy antenna. contact smartbro CS to schedule installer/contractor assistance. that way you will not end up violating some provisions in the service agreement.

i read somewhere that originally the canopy costs 30k, but smart was able to get a discount from motorola. it costs 15k if you break it. it's ok if you just want to face it into another direction, but if you want to make it higher, you'll have to contact their tech support. another 10ft pole costs 450.

oh ok. is it possible that if the lock-in period expires and we still wanna stick with smartbro, probably for the reason that there is no other ISP, we can demand for a fresh canopy antenna?

i think it's a given that they will replace your antenna any time you request for one. it's almost always the last resort of the tech support when i call them for crappy connections. although we can't be assured that they are brand new. i remember us having a member with a used canopy.

seems okay! new contract new equipment!

i think going past the lock in period with smart doesn't mean getting a new contract.

Yes there is... a new contract means being locked for another 12 months....

well might as well get the new equipment when continuing with smartbro! but for me i'd rather change my isp rather than continuing with them! unless a good promo comes up with faster speeds that costs less!

how much is ur internet per month (in us dollars) and what speeds do they advertise?

hmmm its about 25 USD per month

999 pesos / 40 pesos [exchange rate per 1 USD]

Advertised Speed Is [basically] 384 kbps

In other areas they upgraded from 384 kbps to 512 kbps also at 999 per month!

haa that is why i am excited with globe's 1.8mbps @ P2K/month. but still have 7 months more to extend my patience with smartbro.

@coolbuster: is that wireless also? the one being advertised on tv that looks like an old cellular phone from before that has a short antenna [replacing smartbro's canopy on top of the roof]. how about the line of sight? obstructions?

yup. they call it globe visibility

actually its 3G (Third Generation) protocol called HSDPA or High-Speed Downlink Packet Access http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSDPA

go to the page bottom, there you will find a usb modem which can be used by pcs to connect to globe visibility. cool, isn't it?

If you already have a phone, GLOBE offers an internet only (excluding a phoneline) plan 1.5Mbps at P995.00...

Hehe! can't wait to get out of this mud Im stuck in...

*disclaimer: There is a myth that whenever a thuderstorm occurs, globes net connection gets cut-off and returns the following day... any globe user who can clarify these?

That actually looks like EVDO that I have.  Not many obstructions possible. More on radio waves instead. So yeah it should work better and be mobile as you want it to be. Take it with you if you want. I use mine on a desktop myself. But I can hook it to a laptop and go if I want.  :grin2:

Yeah, real good shit.

3mb. thats real good. I haven't seen speeds on here past 2300 and that was not normal. We normally get 1200/600 approximately. But it should kick wireless's butt.  :grin2: I know it beats the heck out of satelite.

And yes Azgauth if that is the same data card setup. Storms no longer have anything to do with it.  :grin2: Except power losses.  I still lose my computer. But for laptop you could still rock on.
