Bwalker25 Posted October 16, 2005 CID Share Posted October 16, 2005 if you say right click a downlaod link and choose to open it and not save it, then after its done you just left click it it will DOWNLOAD it at the "speed of light" or it will appear so, because its just transfering the file from a temp download folder to whereever you chose to put it. RR does not offer those speeds and wont offer it at least not in the next few years. at there current rate increase 2mbps a year we will get 20 mbps in what 11 years or so oh well by then I will have FIOS and it should be GigE. RR Only offers speeds like that on there dedicated fiber solutions which is a business class product offered that I know of in NC in the RTP region, can't speak for other places on this one. Alls I can say is that I get a consistant 9-14Mbps on RR Premium in Durham NC, but during the busy hours I get a consistant 8Mbps down and the standard 512Kb up....nothing special for us here.... BTW some luck people in NYC Rochester I believe are now getting bumped up to 7Mbps for standard service at no charge from what I hear. Haven't seen the upload speed tests for that yet, maybe it will be 7/1 service? one can only dream I suppose!
spacedinvader Posted October 16, 2005 CID Share Posted October 16, 2005 as from my first test on this site i did not know how it worked and when i hit the back button i really wanted those to be my scores as well have t3 that walden web runs through RR or timewarner and dont have those speeds so stop trying to make us belive that you have fiber at your home very few lucky people do and if they do they pay out there wazzo for. I used back button at friends house who has best public cable package RR offers and got the same score so B.M. WE here run on 45mbps atm servers on gigabit backbone and I average from 32 to 24 dl and 12 to 7 ul depending day of the week and time i run test. longrifle Posted October 16, 2005 CID Share Posted October 16, 2005 like I said, first time I download something from a big site it's between 2 and 3.2 MBytes/s. Can't prove it if you think I'm lying but whatever, I'm happy, although speeds are down somewhat to 13Mbits/s today, maybe they figured it out lol.. longrifle Posted October 16, 2005 CID Share Posted October 16, 2005 Try THIS test What difference does that make? Multiple test sites are reporting around 24Mbps for me (without pushing back in the browser) and first time downloads are around 2 to 3 Megabytes per second. Slower servers return slower results, but the fact that I can test and download at around 24Mbps (usually) without pressing back and downloading the same file multiple times is all the proof I need. longrifle Posted October 16, 2005 CID Share Posted October 16, 2005 I swear to god that's my speed. Look, do a lookup for my username, if that speed was truly me "pressing the back button" and getting a screwed up test, wouldn't I have had to run the test at least once and have gotten a low speed before I pressed back? Well if you search for my username at testmy.net you'll see only fast speeds.. And how did I get the file to download at 2MB/s, when something is in your cache it goes at like 100MB/s not 2.. Oh well don't believe me, matters not..
