  1. Good morning Momma T! I did get the upgrade completed via Ethernet, and now the W-Fi works at full speed. But I have not checked to see if I lost anything yet (back on Win7). I have to get the kid to school and then off to work. I will check later on and respond back here. Talk to you later.
  2. Waiting for Ubuntu 11.10 upgrade. Says it should take 1.5 hours. I have a 50/5 connection. Hmmm. Gonna go to bed and leave the upgrade running. We shall see, Heeter......
  3. Good question, Heeter. I can get 25+ Mbps on Win7, but will only get 1-2 Mbps on Ubuntu /With Fire Fox on separate partition on the same PC. I have not dug into it, but I would like to correct this someday. I, too, will wait for the Linux experts to chime in.....
  4. Linksys/Cisco WRT120N -------------> to Linksys WRT54G configured as a wireless bridge using dd-wrt firmware to the XBOX 360 and old desktop PC in basement. I was not giving Microsoft $90 for the Xbox wi-fi option, took me a day to figure out the bridge, but it has worked perfectly for two years.
  5. Well, I have not used WinAmp in a few years, man has that changed. THANKS CA3LE!! WinAmp works great, and I can also sync easily via Wi-Fi with my Android phone at the same time! Appreciate the suggestions and I think I'll stick with it. Bye bye iTunes forever.
  6. Thanks, I'll check them all out. And, sorry, I did not really mean to cut down Apple as a whole. I was ajust a little perturbed when I posted earlier. And I did not know that Win Amp would work with an iPod..
  7. Ok, so I am an Apple hater. They want you to have everything their way, and that is it. period. I have had an iPod Shuffle for some time and have been using it, it is simple, tiny and works well. I like it. BUT - iTunes is a bloated, horrible, f'd up syncing, uninstall-reinstall over and over piece of crap. I finally deleted it once and for all and searched for an alternative. I found Media Monkey and it so far seems much more manageable. (why I can't just simply drag and drop from my PC to a folder on the iPod is beyond me) What I am wondering is if any TMN folks have found another iTunes alternative that they really like? I would appreciate suggestions. Thanks!
  8. Welcome Beerhunter! Looks like you found a decent alternative to the tower, hope it keeps up to par for you. Honestly I am surprised to hear you get wireless internet at all. My youngest brother guided in your area about 3-4 years back. When he was up there I would not be able to contact him for weeks unless he picked up the Sat phone and called me. Seen many many photos of Grande Cache/Grand Prairie area, you live in a beautiful corner of our little planet.
  9. How's it going, Van? That is a nice push all the way over the big puddle to Texas, USA. What kind of crazy service is your ISP giving you these days?
  10. That all looks very good signal wise. You have the latest firmware as far as I am aware. There is a newer version, but I think Cox has only released it in one system so far, not Arizona. There are a few correctable and uncorrectable errors, but your numbers are not off the charts by any means. How often do you see that "DCC ACK not received" error? edit: After a second look, there are quite a few more errors on the 849MHz down stream. But I would just keep an eye on that. 11. TriRan - Is your modem bonding the down streams? If you look at your 'signal' page it will tell: please copy and paste that signal levels back here, it will help me understand your performance better. Also, paste your firmware version found on the 'Help' page back here. Thanks.
  12. I also have the 50/5 service. But I regularly see 50-120mbps down from other flash driven sites, but I know that is false. Wish I could pull 100mbps+, but that is just a dream. Thanks for all your hard work CA3LE!
  13. I just saw that we can get a 1 week free trial of Hulu Plus, and without using your credit card (I hate that and refuse to use a card for a free trial). I set it up a bit ago and seems alright, not sure if I will pay for it though. Just thought I'd let everyone know here. Follow the directions from Hulu Plus on your Xbox dashboard. It will give you a promo code to use on Hulu's website, then all will work on the Xbox. Pretty simple.
  14. I saw a story where a news team downloaded some software and were able to pull some co-workers children's pictures off of Facebook, then they found out the exact coordinates where the children's pictures were taken with the smart phone. That is scary. I went thru my phone and found that the location service for the camera was off by default. Moral of this post, be sure your smart phone's photo location stamp is turned off, unless you want people to know.
  15. Googled it - look at bottom of page. http://www.seiko-precision.com/en/site/PRODUCThochleistungsdrucker/contentfcmsv43fd59e5818c57/product.xml
  16. I have never run F@H on a multi CPU machine before, do I need to have a separate instance of F@H running for each core when running it as a service?
  17. FYI - team is 44352 - and I also just restarted using 8 cores on Windows Server 2008. Curious to see how fast that runs. This machine only really does anything productive during the overnght hours. It is 50x what we need for it's purpose. DellR710 4GB RAM Intel Xeon w/ 8 2.3Ghz cores. Catch up time - used to run F@H on my P4 w/512 RAM.
  18. Do you have a WRT54G or another DD-WRT compatible router laying around? I used 1 to build a bridge a couple years ago and has worked flawlessly ever since. I just modified the one WRT54G with DD-WRT firmware. And with that I can bridge to any WI-FI router across the house (and to my upstairs). Have both a Desktop and an X box 360 connected downstairs and work good simultaneously. Actually, the reason I originally did it is that I did not want to spend the ridiculous $90 to Microsoft for a cheap USB WI-FI add on to the X Box and happened to have an extra WRT54G. There are easy to find and follow directions on the web. Below is a screen shot from the modified router - and upstairs I just have a standard Linksys router with the standard Linksys firmware.
  19. Was trying to find where to edit registry value for RWIN in 2008 Server, and I stumbled on this article: https://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=2574 Compound TCP - Improve throughput Add-On Congestion Control Provider The traditional slow-start and congestion avoidance algorithms in TCP help avoid network congestion by gradually increasing the TCP window at the beginning of transfers until the TCP Receive Window boundary is reached, or packet loss occurs. For broadband internet connections that combine high TCP Window with higher latency (high BDP), these algorithms do not increase the TCP windows fast enough to fully utilize the bandwidth of the connection. Compound TCP (CTCP) is a newer method, available in Vista and Server 2008 (there is also a hotfix available for XP/2003). CTCP increases the TCP send window more aggressively for broadband connections (with large RWIN and BDP). CTCP attempts to maximize throughput by monitoring delay variations and packet loss. It also ensures that its behavior does not impact other TCP connections negatively. By default, Vista and Windows 7 have CTCP turned off, it is only on by default under Server 2008. Turning this option on can significantly increase throughput. To enable CTCP, in elevated command prompt type: netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider=ctcp To disable CTCP: netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider=none Possible options are: ctcp, none, default (restores the system default value). Recommended setting: ctcp It is better to use this newer generation CTCP congestion control algorithm for most broadband connections, we highly recommend it being turned on. Worth a shot........
  20. OK so I am responding to my own post. FYI - Do not post anything right after a cab drops you off at home from the local pub. On the other hand; I still do not like the new way Windows is going. It is still annoying to me.
  21. Did not read the thread - BUT I f'ing hate Windows 7, Vista, etc. They are just stupid when it comes to adjusting network settings and so on.
  22. Thanks Tommie. Going to try reloading now.
