  1. That sounds like a very possible cause; a good 5-7HP Shop VAC will fix that. I just take mine and shove the hose on the front vent and then shake the tower around. If that does not help, then open her up and vacuum away. Sorry, just kidding, please don't do that. But, mudmanc is right, I just recently opened up one of my PC's that is about 5 years old and blew out a bunch of dust jammed around the CPU fan with canned air. It runs cooler now.
  2. He would be called Ron Bicardi, the Rum maker - my friend... I believe he is Puerto Rican, but was originally Cuban if my memory serves me.
  3. Roco, would you choose A or B? This thread is getting off topic and going down hill quick
  4. Yes, the modem and NIC card are entirely separate, so the drivers should not have anything to do with it, but there are many mysteries to CATV; if it works, keep it that way. Your modem levels are much better than mine ( -8 on mine is low, but still within range ), but that doesn't mean that there could have been a problem with your line a couple days ago. Your receive level is 13dB - a little hot, but should not be an issue. Your transmit level is 50dB - the maximum is typically around 55-58 dB, depending upon the upstream modulation your ISP is using, so that looks OK. Many people say the it needs to be below 50dB, but if the signal path is clean, it will run forever even at 53dB like my modem is transmitting. And your forward signal to noise ratio (SNR) is 36dB, which is good; this needs to stay above 32dB or so to keep things error free. If you continue having problems, keep an eye on your levels and post back here.
  5. Yeah, I am on call tonight otherwise I would be visiting Ron B right now. And, Roco, a little doll telling you to "go easy big boy" is maybe a little creepy. pixiepistlz, glad your husband stopped throwing the rum at you - it does have a tendency to alter the personality. Maybe if you tried it in a glass with a little diet coke and ice.....sorry bout' the peer pressure.
  6. Actually your right Roco.... I haven't been around TMN for some time and I start a fight first post out. That is some pretty bad audio coming out of the dolls mouth, maybe it is saying "Bacardi Rum is Light"; that would be fine with me
  7. What are your levels from your modem? Type 192.168.100.1 into your browser and choose the "Signal" tab at the top. Copy and paste your levels and post them back here. Sounds like your transmit levels could be too high. Here is an example from my modem: Downstream Value Frequency 589750000 Hz Signal to Noise Ratio 35 dB QAM QAM256 Network Access Control Object ON Power Level -8 dBmV The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading Upstream Value Channel ID 3 Frequency 35100000 Hz Ranging Service ID 5150 Symbol Rate 2.560 Msym/s Power Level 53 dBmV
  8. If it was clearly labeled, then that would be different. I did not see anything in that video that said anything about a label. That is clearly Frikin' wrong. I am born and raised Catholic (but have never fallen for the stories) and I would be just as upset about a non labeled toy that spouted "Jesus Christ is the light".

    upside down screen

Is it a tablet notebook? i have a Gateway TA6 tablet with which i can physically flip the screen around, then hit a button or go into the display settings and flip the display any way i want. Have your friend check those options.
  10. So, CA3LE, you are telling us that you are going to allow Shug to make his own videos and post them onto your site? This should be interesting. Anyways, good idea on the tutorials.
  11. I like the idea already... It could make for some interesting threads on these cold winter days.
  12. My work laptop has Microsoft Streets and Trips on it and they gave us a cheap USB gps receiver to stick on the roof. it works great, the program gives turn by turn directions if you want it to.
  13. The energy efficient florescent bulbs only make sense, I will vote for that. I started buying them about 5-6 years ago, and that's all I've installed since. Not only because they are efficient, but they last allot longer (which will forever keep a premium price on them, unfortunately). None have burned out in my home yet. And as for the wind energy, I have driven across Wyoming - Utah - Idaho four times in the last 2 years and every time I have seen many trucks headed down the road with those giant wind turbine blades and the sections of the towers on the trailers. It looks to me like the wind energy phenomenon is finally catching on around here. In fact there is an area in Wyoming on the North side of I-80 that one can see hundreds of the towers - as far as you can see. I should have invested in these manufacturers...
  14. What do you TMN members from Cali think about this proposal? I think they need to work harder to meet the demands when the demand is up instead of taking over one's home. Maybe Atlanta needs to install automatic wireless toilet flusher locks. This could solve the drought problem. But if the system were to say bring all thermostats to a reasonable temp simultaneously and fairly, then it may not be so bad.
  15. Bill O'Reilly 197. Bill O'Reilly I have a large collection of CP, willing to trade pics and vids of youngsters!
  16. Looks like you have some issues with all of the sync timing errors. It could be the modem, but I would wait for the techs. Keep checking your signal levels and downstream SNR. They look good in that first post, but that is just an instant shot of those levels when you accessed the page. Be sure all the cable connectors are tight throughout the entire cable setup in your home. one loose connector could cause multiple problems, such as ingress (outside RF interference), throughout your home. That is about all you can do on your own, unless you are an electrician and able to test your ground, as the first post suggested. Let us know what you find out.
  17. We had an issue a couple of years ago that may be the culprit. Here is what I can recall: The SA modems use a different port to download the config file from the TFTP server than other modems, like Motorola for example. A while back, Motorola had sent out a memo regarding blocking a certain group of ports to prevent attacks from a specific trojan (which I cannot recall which one right now). Anyways, those ports that Moto recommended we block were the same ports that the SA modems needed to download the config file.(kind of fishy) The symptoms were that the SA Webstar modems would take an unusually long time to come online. They would come up after about 20 minutes and begin working, but then they would reset every so often and take another 20 minutes to re-sync. I met with the Scientific Atlanta engineer and we sat down to do some testing. It turns out that the port blocking was the issue. I am in the maintenance dept here, it was the data engineers that ultimately figured it out, so it was a little beyond me. I will try to find more specific info for you, but I would start with contacting SA and verifying which ports the modem needs to contact the TFTP server, and then verify that they are not blocked either through the CMTS or TFTP server, or anywhere in between. Hope this helps. Now my brain hurts, need Rum to relax it -
  18. You have to power cycle the modem and release/renew the IP or restart your PC.
  19. It is possible they have moved your node to a new interface, but IP address does not mean that has happened. You could change your MAC on your router, for example, and it will give you a new IP address, possibly even with a new prefix, but still from the same CMTS. By the way, IPv6 will only slow you down (most likely) if you enable it. I forgot that I had enabled it while reading some of jeffwalker's posts and then for the longest time I could not figure out where my dl speeds went. After the damn light bulb went off on my head and I realized what I had done, I uninstalled it and I am now back to normal.
  20. All of the levels and SNR looks good. I forgot that the SA modem shows your I.P.'s, good catch on hiding them. And it does not appear that you are running IPv6; that slowed me down. Maybe your node is congested, but there is really no way for you to tell. Are you experiencing any packet loss? And also, are all of your links set to 100baseT? Double check your NIC card setting on your PC and your WAN port setting on your router. If any one link in the path is running at 10baseT, then you will never get over ~ 7-8mbps.
  21. X - are you running more than 1 anti virus simultaneously? If so, that could be a problem as they may conflict. I would stick with AVG, personally. Hopefully cleaning out the Trojan will solve your problem. BTW, can you copy and paste all of the info from your modems signal page? It is the page you got your SNR from earlier, I want to see all of the signal levels.
  22. Happy Birthday!!! Seems like we celebrate CA3LE's b-day every couple of months....
  23. Sorry tdawnaz - I was just making fun of a foreign product name that could imply something else in America. It reminds me of a Chinese restaurant I once saw named Fu King Restaurant (or something very close to that). edit: I just found a review for the Fu King Chinese Restaurant http://www.rateitall.com/i-101303-fu-king-chinese-restaurant-lake-city-fl.aspx This is a whole new thread needing started here...................jk, lets hope no one is that dense.
