HELP! I need an impartial opinion...
resopalrabotnick replied to DeedeeT's topic in Make it Faster...
a t1 gives you 1.5 up/down or 24 phone lines or any combination of the two. so dfepending on what you are paying for combined phone/internet now you might even save money. when you send a 2 meg mail to 10 people do you send that to an external mailserver (meaning you send the 2 megs only once and the mailserver handles the sending out of the 10 messages to the recipients in the mail) or do you have a mailserver in the office (which would then have to send the 2 meg mail out 10 times) maybe just getting an external mailserver would help with sending out mass mailings like that. (always assuming that the ten recipients for the large mail are addressed in the one mail. if the mails to the individual recipients are sent out individually it wouldn't matter. ) -
In your Opinion; What is the ugliest car ever made?

the pontiac aztech doesn't know wether it's a hatchback, a station wagon or an suv. so it takes the worst of all three and combines them... -
well, he's worth what, 46 billion as of 2003? seeing how the inheritence to his kid (or is it kids now) was supposed to be only 1 or 2 billion, he needs the extra time to spread all that cash around. the charity work he has and is doing is awesome. he is in the public eye, he is stinking rich and best of all he doesn't meddle in politics like every single hollywood scumbag and pop star seems to feel entitled to do.

ford has a good rep. and owning a ford explorer i can second that. solid. as for the jap trucks, the full size nissans and toyotas look nice. the nissan bed has some nice accessories for tiedowns. toyota is running in the nascar trucks series. how much more american do you need to get? personally i like the fords.

hm. in one word? BULLSHIT! let's see. passive repeater antenna. ok. so it's passive. means it has no power source of its own. and it is a repeater. meaning what? it takes the signal it receives and retransmits it. however, it has no power source of its own. so all it can do is use the signal it received to power the transmission it itself makes. the efficiency of converting part of the signal received into electrical power to power the transmitter while using the part of the signal to tell the transmitter what to transmit should be low to nil so if it does actually transmit anything it will be much less than it actually received. as for the small internal connection box that is supposed to beam the signal from the inside to the outside through the glass: if it actually did that it would just add a second level of using part of the signal to power a transmitter etc. etc. etc. eating more of your usable signal. the best case: you shell out 23 bucks plus S&H for a nice stick-on fake antenna. worst case: you lose signal strength because the antenna actually eats most of the signal that is sent in its direction. my advice: take the 23 bucks plus shipping and go see a movie and get yourself a nice steak at sizzler.

having usedit professionally i'm gonna have to vote for the hk91. good to 400 meters with iron sights and 800+ with scope. and yeah it's heavy. but it also packs a better punch than those damned .223 popguns. not to mention the almost smg ak-47 with that short round.

love it. threw it onto a 2.53 celeron with 256 megs of ram (the minimum) and xp home yesterday. full install with office pro and visio pro was >2 gigs. even with the min mem, apps launch fast. real fast. in fact a /lot/ faster than open office. which i found highly surprising, i was expecting performance to be a little sluggish due to memory. the new look is nice, seems like it won't take long to get used to. i can only recommend it to take a look at. and oh, yeah, the export as pdf with active content is included. i can understand why adobe had a shit fit. if i can save my docs with hyperlinks etc. as a pdf what in hell do i need acrobat for anymore?

All would be Vista downloaders, best you are aware of this!

hm. let's see. one: it's a BETA. two: it's FREE three: it's a FREE BETA four: it is what is known as a TRIAL five: it is not and doesn't neccessarily need to be even close to the final product. so how do the points they bring up come as a surprise? couldn't those linux fanboys come up with a slightly better way to bash M$? -
Help! with networking options
resopalrabotnick replied to lenkrufka's topic in Networking and Hardware
of course you can just run fiber over the distance. but the cost of that plus the transcievers or optical port equipped switches... the only upside would be the distance not being an issue with fiber... -
that makes you sound like a ridiculous fanboy. i think the browser /can/ have that big an impact on a sat connection.

with all the things you want to replace, have you thought about geting a complete new comp? that way you can still use the oneyou have instead of having half a new comp with some old parts.... you will need new ram too... etc.etc.etc.

Help to connect to school server please
resopalrabotnick replied to pheoxs's topic in General Discussion
so set up an install just for that. -
i was helping a friend set up a linux system for productive use. now he is fed up and linux has been relegated to experimentation. the productive system runs xp. why? too much hassle with linux and too much trouble getting even standard hardware working, cost of shopping around for new hardware with compatibility to linux and not function and bang for the buck being the important criteria.

right. "passive" would be an antenna connected to the antenna port on the phone (if there is one). what you are describing is a so-called "inactive" antenna.
-
i'm afraid to even ask what that "patch" might be...
-
are you talking about external antennae that you place on wall/car? yes, they help... just like a good set of rabbit ears will help a tv.
-
good point. that's a reason to consider changing. (still won't do it myself. used to ie. good enough.) calling on the security by obscurity principle like linux and macos is just too risky imnsho.

take a look at the top of the page. there is a control bar there to activate different effects. .s1, if the un-logged-in page in the link was the only tmn you had open it won't shw your name on the page because you aren't logged in. log in in another window so you appear in the list on the homepage and you should appear. i am surprised noone has noticed the other effects so far.

well, the number of security flaws has one caveat. it is the number of /known/ security flaws. it is the same as comparing xp to macos or linux. there are far mor people attacking xp than the other os'es. and i would say it is the same for ie and other browsers. so naturally more security flaws are discovered than on the less well 'checked' ones.
-
wrong. people using firefox are generally a little more tech savvy. (why else would they bother to replace a perfectly good browser they got for free with their os with another? these people know a little more about how to make a system safe than your average computer user. i run ie on xp pro and have had no trouble even when surfing across seriously questionable sites. it's not the browser in itself that creates safety or lack thereof, it;s the user that configures it and the os.

but these here aren't for profit.
