Im done with the FAP rant now. Time for troubleshooting. It sounds to me like your transmitter isn't properly grounded. When the transmitter isn't grounded properly it builds up a lot of static, and so you get connection failures. There should be a wire connected to the transmitter and grounded to a small metal stake in the ground, or if it's on the roof, grounded to the house somewhere, (electrical box, water pipe). It really sounds like a classic case of the transmitter not being grounded. I'll post some pictures for you to see later, unless someone else here has some that they would like to post. EDIT: Look at the top right drawing here, there should be a wire connected to a screw label GND on the transmitter....if not...then that's your problem....

"My husband continues to download maybe around 50-1000 MB at night when he comes home (and I do not know why he is lucky to have such uninterrupted internet during such times). He said he would just try to power-cycling if he starts without connection, then everything would go ok." 1000MB a night WILL get you fapped. FAP is like a bucket. If you are on the Pro plan, you get a 350MB bucket, which is constantly refilling at 56Kbps(dialup speed). They tell you it's in a 4 hour period but that isn't completely true, at least for some of us. When that 350MB is depleted, you are Fapped, for about 4-13hours. In some cases people revert to dialup speed, and some lose the connection all together. You might want to tell your husband to stop downloading when he goes to bed, that way you will have a full bucket during the day so you can work. If you are a heavy downloader, (linux distros, movies), then Direcway is NOT for you. You would have to use some sort of Commercial grade satellite, or think about Wild Blue, as they have a rolling monthly FAP bucket as opposed to a refilling 350MB bucket. So my advice is tell your husband not to download for a while, and see if the connection improves. Have you been checking your usage online? It will tell you when you are being FAPed.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that transponder. Im also on 83 West(aka AMC9) but on 1370Mhz. What do your number of failed transmissions look like? http://192.168.0.1 Click on transmission info I haven't heard of anyone else going down like you describe, and there are a lot of people on that transponder on this site, and on other sites. Also, what is your normal signal strength?

It might have something to do with Java(mydirecway test). Make sure you have the latest version of the Java Runtime environment installed. -

Fainted at this speed with DW7000 Home Plan

EWO! I used that same test and got this: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2722 Kbps about 2.7 Mbps (tested with 4096 kB) Download Speed is:: 332 kB/s Tested From:: http://www.speakeasy.org Test Time:: 2006/03/17 - 8:41pm Bottom Line:: 49X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 3.08 sec Tested from a 4096 kB file and took 12.329 seconds to complete Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.1) Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 188.96 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9V053WZA6 I monitored the download with my bandwidth monitor. It really DID download that rate! EDIT: Upon further review, the modem lights barely even blinked during the test, so I suspect something is wrong here... -

WAIT A MINUTE :::.. Are you getting the same results at the myDirecWay.com speed test? Also, what speeds are you getting when downloading large files? -
What satellite and transponder are you on? (Listed as Longitude and Frequency in System Info)_ What is your rate of failed transmissions. What is your rate code? http://192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html If you are loosing income over this, your best bet is to demand that they move you to another Sat or transponder if it really is a problem with the Sat. Most of the time, it isn't really a problem on the actual satellite, but a problem with the gateway at the NOC.
-
There is no way. The only way is to beg Dway to do it for you. When you run setup, you can connect to any sat or transponder that you want. But when it "downloads configuration paramters", it reverts to what settings DWay has put you on.

These are M16's average for the last 3 days. Either he is getting bad results from here for some reason, or he is getting huge speed bursts that are making me jealous and want to steal his system. Mar 16 2006 1776 Kbps Mar 15 2006 1908 Kbps Mar 14 2006 1766 Kbps Post some results from the MyDirecWay test. I have noticed that ever since Ca3le updated this site with the new look, the test results have been overly generous for me, and quite a few other people. Sometimes even being an entire 1Mb off. I know this because I can watch my bandwidth monitor during the test showing 1100Kbps or lower and get a result of 1200 to 1300 Kbps. M16, when you download files, what speeds are you getting? -
For me, it's bowling....

The larger dish will give you a better signal, and less rain fade. The more powerfull transmitter will give you better uploads, and will punch through clouds rain and interference better. But to use any of that, you have to be on at least a SOHO plan.
-
You are on AMC9. It was one of the best, until they made it the default satellite for new users. Then they started having problems. They seem to have fixed those problems now though.

Does it come with the 2 girls?

Like Dlewis said...forget all that win 98 boot disk stuff. Put the XP disk in, reboot the computer. You may have to set the BIOS to boot to the CD-ROM drive first. After you do that, when the computer reboots a thing will come up asking if you want to boot to the CD-ROM and it will give you about 4 seconds to it; press any key to boot to cd....after that then complete the setup like normal.

If it's a custom built computer, then I seriously doubt it will have any System recovery program installed. Those only usually come from a PC manufacturer, and are usually given instead of an XP install disk. If you have an XP disk w/ Service Pack 2 built in, you may find that it has a lot of drivers preloaded. It really depends on the hardware. The best thing to do is look at what hardware that is on it first, download all the drivers that you think you will need, burn them to a disk or USB drive, and then format and reinstall. Also, I never use the Recovery disks, mainly because most of them preload a bunch of crap you don't need, that slows the machine down. It's also good practice to learn how to do-it-yourself when re-installing an operating system. Microsoft makes it pretty easy, and it will save you money by not having to pay someone else to do it if you ever need to.

the newest being the best...2.6.3

Unfortunately no. There is no way to beat the physical limitations of the system. Packets have to travel 22000 miles up and 22000 miles down. Then back.
-
Then I would recommend downloading a free bandwidth monitor, and watch it while you test at testmy, just to make sure it is accurate. I use FAPMON from www.copperhead.cc Helps me monitor FAP and speeds.

I can think of only 2 or 3 things. One being that you might have a good route to this site. Most if not all the other test sites ive used are all Java Based.(not as accurate) I do know that when this site was updated with the new look, sometimes I will get crazy test results. I can watch my bandwidth meter showing a download at 1130Kbps, and the test result would give 1700Kbps. Are you using any software like Nortin Internet Security or McAffe that has firewalls or heavy duty real time scanning?
