  1. I just got all my parts for my server that I had been waiting on so I can have it hooked up wirelessly at 125 speeds. What I want to do is put it somewhere in the house and have it running 24/7 hooked up by wifi. So far I have gotten all of that done but im having troubles with vnc. When I start the server up and I go to one of my computers I can connect to the server via realvnc and I see the press control alt delte thing for secure passwords or whatever, but when I do this I just get task manager on my computer. Ive tried this on 2 computers and get the same result, after making sure both times I was in the vnc window. What can I do? Is this a realvnc problem?
  2. Thats what i've been hearing but some video cards say they have hd out put with rgb so thats what I would get.
  3. In my opinion 2.8-3 is actually overkill. If you plan on hooking up this media center pc make sure you get a video card that has svideo out, or if you have an hdtv, hdtv out.
  4. 99 percent of the time you'll be fine working on the floor with no bracelet. Unfortunately that 1 percent happened to me recently and I fried a motherboard, so now I always use a bracelet for extra protection. Another tip don't get frustrated your first pc build will take longer than your expected and most likely you won't through it together in 15 minutes and have it all work.
  5. Is verizon even your local telco? If not then you definately wont be getting fios for a long time. If you have sbc like me you have to hope that they role out lightspeed asap.
  6. Never !
  7. But if you don't care about the policy... You could use apache, or some other webserver software to host your page. You would then redirect all port 80 requests to the ip on your network of the computer which is running the webserver, same as port forwarding. So forward port 80, then when people type in your ip address in a browser it will go to the what ever your webserver is hosting. You can get a domain name, or free no-ip service to redirect to your ip so you dont have to give this out. Theoretically of course.
  8. ha another mind reader .
  9. http://www.youngzsoft.net/ccproxy/ CC Proxy is an easy-to-use proxy server software. The demo version can support 3 users and no time limitation. For some more check out this http://www.serverfiles.com/Internet-server-software/Proxy-servers/.
  10. Im in ohio and I've got earthlink premium 8/512 for 73 a month. Theres some dsl options available but I use vonage so would have to get a dedicated link or another phone line.
  11. Thats decent, I wish I could find something with more upload than I have now for less money.
  12. What do you pay for speakeasy?
  13. Depends on how many times it will be split before reaching the cable modem. You should figure out the layout of your home's coax wiring. Generally the main cable comes into the house, like in the basement, this is then connected to a splitter which branches off too all of your tvs. If you split one of these you should be allright. I had success hooking up all my tvs from the "main splitter" (basement) and then in one room splitting it again for my tv and modem. As long as you don't split it more than twice you should be allright. Something to note though it I was using a signal booster, something you could pick up at ace.
  14. Allright thanks, I'll just let the auction run its course and if those people actually are interested in it they can bid and wait awhile.
  15. I've had 2 more people contact me asking to purchase it now before the bid ends. Oh well I think I'll just let the auction go unless somebody makes an offer I cant resist.
  16. I'm thinking you could setup a proxy server with some free software and then open a port on your router to allow connections from the outside (when at school). As for changing the address you could use a free service like no-ip which redirects to your ip address, so they don't block your ip, but the no-ip address.
  17. I have just put some computer stuff on ebay and have been contacted by a possible buyer who wants to purchase the item before any bids are made on it. Is against ebay policy or is there a way that I can sell it to him right now? This is my first time selling an item so I couldn't have a buy it now. Just want to be careful and not get kicked off ebay thanks.
  18. You should look into a network switch. This would allow you to connet multiple computers to the same home network allowing you to share files, printers, play lan games etc. Something like this would do the job http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817111009.
  19. Aliyaho Pearce for president .
  20. Yes but it would be much slower hosting it like that.
  21. Pretty damn fast. What does cox advertise? 8/1?
  22. I think he thought you were hosting the website from your house with your connection.
  23. Any recent changes with your computer? New programs installed? Do you have virus protection, have you ran recent scans?
  24. Lol I used to play that game, but now I've changed my strategy. I'll download the album to see if I like it, then I buy it used on ebay, so then I have a legal copy and I don't have to pay 20 bucks for a cd .
  25. The 1 good stick of ram seems to be stable at 2.9ghz which I am very satisfied about. Maybe I will purchase some better ram but for now I've got a 1000 dollar cpu for a little over 200 .
