  1. By Default, the x64 will run in 32 bit IE...You actually have to make a shortcut yourself for the x64 bit IE(the default one opens up 32 bit). I have problems with x64 IE, where it won't do flash/video, and player download won't work....Haven't figured out how to fix that just yet...working on it... x64 has an emulator for 32 bit, I believe that is how some viruses/worms/spyware can infect both systems. If you don't know that it runs in default 32 bit IE, and go cruising the net, and hit some bad sites, I suppose that could be one way...I know for a fact certain worms can infect a 64 bit machine.. I'm not really concerned about it, since I have never gotten a worm before, or ever lost data due to a virus(I do enough damage trying to overclock "just a wee bit more" ). But, one of the reasons I haven't, is that I always have a good defense up... Just trying to stay ahead.... **Spybot and Adaware both have x64 versions, and seem to run fine.
  2. There are only a few viruses that will infect 64 bit sytems, but worms like Sober, Sasser, etc. will infect a 64 bit machine. It's safer for now...But still can be infected..
  3. I found Avast for antivirus..I hear Nortons has some too, but they screw up 32 bit enough, so I will steer clear of that one.. Ace Utilities has a beta registry/disk cleaner that seems to work well so far...Only problem so far was it removing registry keys for flash player...Had to exclude them... So far my Flight Stick, Joystick, and Steering wheel all work fine... The only problem I am having, is getting my Promise raid controller to work... I have the 64 bit drivers for it, but when I attempt to install them, it says that they are not for 64.. The only ones I can get to install(ones that come with windows) will not let the controller start... The VIA raid controller works fine, and actually reads a little faster with x64. A firewall is the only thing I cant find..The only one I have seen so far is the Tiny Firewall...Avast has a "light" firewall in it, but not a real one... At the moment I have the Avast one on, and the windows firewall...I may give the Tiny one a try... Overall, the x64 seems to run alot better...My processor, memory, disk speed, and video all benchmark higher. Far cry looks great in 64 I am hoping people will come out with 64bit mods for older games. I'm not sure if its possible to mod games for 64 , but it would be sweet if it could be done...
  4. Thanks guys... I finally said @#$! it, and upgraded to x64 XP... Actually works better than I thought it would..So far only a few odd errors, but then again, reg XP pro had its share of them..
  5. I just upgraded to x64, and so far so good. For some reason I can overclock much further than I could with 32bit XP...Not sure why.. I also noticed an smbios error that would come up during pc pitstop testz(with xp pro 32bit), is no longer there...It used to read my ram wrong. It would show all the ram, but bios and windows didn't agree on the size..Now that problem is gone.... Plus my test score was much higher. I was wondering if anyone else is using it, and what software they are using. I have found pretty much everything works so far(except virus scanners/firewalls/reg cleaners). But most run in the 32 bit emulator.. I am looking for true 64 bit software. If anyone knows of any, I would be a great help. I wanted to try the 64 bit gaming experience, so I downloaded Far Cry from direct 2 drive(only $9.99 ), an installed the 64 bit patch... All I can say is WOW, what a difference...The 64 bit has soooo much more detail than the 32 bit...Feels almost like you are there.. There are some more true 64 bit games, which I will try shortly.. If anyone knows of any 64 bit software, post it here...Thanks..
  6. I believe..(which I could be wrong), this movie was sort of meant to be a airplane type movie, but not as obvious...I mean the title and even the way its graphically done, kind of gives the hint of a comedy... Not the obvious comedy we are used to, but a comedy none the less....If it is true(which after seeing SLJ on Jon Stewart), I believe it is, I can see how it can be funny....From what I've read, if you go in knowing it's just a movie to make fun of, it is a blast... I mean who else would you call if you have M@##@# #@#@#@ Snakes on a Plane.... Samual @#@#$$@#@ Jackson!!!!! (SLJ) ----<>======================*** <--- (rattlesnake on the #$%@## $@#@%# Plane)
  7. Well I managed to drop my XP Pro disk one too many times, and now it will not read(took a nice chunk out of it..concrete floors... )...I can't find my backup disk that I thought I had burned...I purchased the OEM copy seperately after building my pc. I have read that if you have and OEM copy, and you have the COA sticker, you can legally install using any XP Pro disk(since the sticker is the license..which I have in my possession)....Is this true? Microsoft wants $40+ for shipping...I'm not sure what shipping company they use... I really don't want to spend $40 for a cd I already own...Can I download an ISO from a Bit Torrent legally, since I do own a license? Just wondering if I will run into problem using another XP disk with my key...Normally I have to call the morons at microsoft to activate my install every freakin time...I can see them giving me a problem. They always grill me about how many pc's I installed on(1 and only 1) and where I got the copy..They pretty much make you feel like you stole the piece of crap...I swear the way they run things there, I truly feel it would be less of a hassle to use an illegal copy...Last time I activated it, it took 50 minutes for the guy to give me the numbers..He would give me one set, then go silent for 15 minutes..He didn't even say anything like "hold on a sec"...just went silent...I was rather pissed off.. Sorry Microsoft always causes me to break into a rant..
  8. I used to fix their air conditioning.. They are located about 10 minutes away from here.. Nice guys there..and their stuff is good...
  9. Fios is still costing us ~$50 a month for the 30/5... And I notice the difference between the 30/5 Fios and the former Optonline's 10/1... Especially when someone else gets on line at same time...OOL would come to a dead stop...Fios just keeps going and going and going...

  11. If you are using Tune Up Utilities 2006, I believe if you goto(in Tune Up program): Customize & Analyze/Tune Up SystemControl/Start Menu There should be a tab called "behavior"..Make sure the "Open menus automatically after indicated delay" is checked, and set delay as desired.

I had a similar problem to this recently, where I could only get to recovery console, and the check disk would lock up(when running with /r or /f )... I loaded the console(boot from cd...repair option blah blah blah), ran chkdsk with no / and just let it run and it finished...I came up with errors...I rebooted, got back into console, ran chkdsk /f, let it run, said blah blah blah errors repaired...Then rebooted again, and ran chkdsk /r...think it said no errors, than rebooted a final time, and it finally booted up windows and ran fine.....(eventually I went too far on an overclocking adventure, and had to reformat anyway, but I did get it up and running again before I f'd it up again ) Good Luck

I agree with dlewis...It will take less time to format/reinstall than it will to fix all the problems(if you even can).
  14. Ethanol at e-85 levels will eat through any rubber hoses/seals/etc.. You just need to eliminate any rubber in the fuel system and you can run on e-85. In NY, at least on Long Island, our gas comes with 10% ethanol(replaced the MTBE's that were outlawed). At that percentage, it won't eat through the rubber, and no retrofit is required.
  15. I personally think energy could become an economic boom like computers were... We all need energy. What the govt needs to do, is have more incentives to invest in alternative energy sources... I'm a big believer in hydro/wave/tidal/wind/solar power. IMO, everytime the sun rises or the wind blows and we don't harness that power, we are losing out. If every house had just 1 solar panel, how many millions of barrels of oil would that save? I bet it would add up. Every street lamp should be solar. The technology is there to charge them on the cloudiest of days. Imagine how much power is wasted lighting roads? Gyms should be self powered...You have all these people working out, expending energy...Why not generate electric with it...Hell, have a reverse bill...The more electric you make, the less you pay...Hook all the stationary bikes and treadmills up to generators... You could have places in the malls where there are just a ton of stationary bikes, where you can pedal for exercise, while making some cash for generating electric. Problem is, the morons in the white house have their hands so deep in the oil barrel, the problem won't be properly addressed for another couple years.
  16. Just for an example... A v-6 that gets 23/32 mpg (city/highway) on gas, will get about 16/21 on ethanol(actually those numbers are based on E-85 vs Gas). You get about the same acceleration, which is why dragsters do ok..But you burn more fuel to achieve it, so you decrease the distance you can travel on the same amount of fuel.
  17. Methanol is a good fuel choice... It can be produced using horse manure/human waste/garbage dumps. It is a greenhouse has by itself(more powerful than co2 as a greenhouse gas). So you are using a greehouse gas that is already present, and would just be released into the atmosphere if not burned as fuel. By burning it, you are not adding carbon to the carbon cycle, but rather using carbon that already exists in the active carbon cycle. Gas/Diesel/etc adds to the carbon cycle because you are taking stored carbon from under the earth and adding it to the active carbon cycle. Ethanol is a good fuel, but it is also not nearly as efficient as gasoline as a fuel...You need more ethanol to create the same energy as gas. Plus, some form of vegitation is required...Severe droughts, or weather pattern changes could alter crop production, causing a drop in ethanol production.
  18. The only problem I see with fully electric cars is this...Unless you are charging the car using solar, wind, or hydro power, you are still burning fuel. The power plants will need to turn out more juice to charge the vehicles..So in reality, you are burning just as much fuel, just the emissions are going somewhere else. At least the regenerative braking is actually taking wasted energy and converting it back to usable energy..This DOES conserve fuel. I like the Hydrogen Stations that use solar power and ground water to make the hydrogen. That is, in my mind, progress. No fuel is needed to produce the fuel(ethanol for example needs to be cooked...using nat gas usually). The only problem may be water supply eventually. This is where solar/wind/nuclear powered desalination plants could be useful. Not to replace oil right away, but at least cut the demand for it a little.
  19. Most if not all of the new hybrids use the energy from braking to recharge the batteries.. Around the city, it is mostly the electric motor that powers the car. Electric motors are very efficient at stop/go and low speeds(compared to gas), but are not so good at highway speeds, which is where the gas engine kicks in to help out and recharge the batteries.
  20. Yeah I have an AMD 4000+ (socket 939), and it is 1.5v stock. I have had it up to 1.65 with no problems... Without the liquid cooling it may get too hot, but with it, it is fine..
  21. Just wondering who determines what a high amount is? I bought an LCD from Price Club for $200, and I had dead pixels...They took it right back, and gave me a new one(I only had maybe 1-2 dead pixels, but they were right dead center of monitor). They gave me no problems what so ever... I'm with Cholla on this one, I would bring it back to Best Buy. They should take it back for an exchange if you tell them it had bad pixels when you got it. And if all else fails, tell Westinghouse you plan to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This usually will make them move a little, especially if the "high amount of dead pixels" is not clearly defined. To me, it is a matter of judgment...A high amount to one person may not be a high amount to another....It's a way to vaguely write a warranty so they can just deny more warranty claims...I bet if you push enough, and make enough noise, they will help you out... To me, for $2,000....1 bad pixel is a high amount....
  22. Things that make you go........ edit: no exploding head please...
  23. Not enough power?? I had that card...I can't remember if it said it needed 250 or 300 watt minimum... Edit: I think it was 250.
  24. I like the Antecs also.. Using the Neo-He with the smart cables...Saves a lot of space.. Get the largest power supply you can afford or are willing to spend. You can never have too much, but you can have too little..
