I noticed my network card has settings for Max IRQ per second, and Number of Receive Buffers(max 500), and number of Transmit Buffers(limit 200). I've been playing around with them, and noticed I can increase my RWIN, if I increase the buffers as well(the buffers number for the nic card).. Bascially if I run a speed test, and the progress bar jumps(not steady progress), I increase the buffers on the nic card, and eventually it smoothes out the progress bar... I am not sure what the Max IRQ per second(max 30000) setting will do, I have turned it up to max, and really couldn't tell... My question is, should I use a larger rwin with larger buffers on the nic card, or smaller rwin, with smaller buffers? And what effect will larger IRQ per second setting have? I also enabled Jumbo frames, which I have found to actually help..(seems I can use smaller rwin values and achieve faster speeds)...Does anyone have knowledge of Jumbo Frames, and whether or not it truely affects Rwin values? Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums... Go here http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=2097.0 and follow those steps... Then- -Post your Advertised Speeds(upload/download) -Connection Type(Cable/Dsl/Satelite) -Router or No router -Ethernet or USB Post a tracert to testmy.net and Post a download and upload test Good luck
-
Post the following info also: -Your connection cap limits(download/upload max speeds), and Type(Cable/Dsl/Satelite) -Router or No router -Ethernet or USB -post a tracert to testmy.net -Download/Upload test Good Luck

Your Rwin is way too small.. Your RcvWindow limits you to: 696.96 Kbps (87.12 KBytes/s) @ 200ms Your RcvWindow limits you to: 278.784 Kbps (34.848 KBytes/s) @ 500ms I made a file that should work, give it a try...Let me know if it helps.. Are you on cable or DSL(PPPoE)..? If you're on cable, the MTU should be 1500, not 1492, and you will need a different ccs file... EDITED- I added a ccs file for cable...Just in case.. Post an upload test also..

Check the manual, you may have a jumper on the motherboard that needs to be moved to increase the FSB... There is also normally a setting in bios to adjust, but that will depend on on your bios/motherboard.. Before you start messing with the FSB, make sure you know how to clear your cmos, incase of system failure due to overclocking...(just being safe and assuming you may not know how to) I'm not very familiar with HP's, so the above may or may not hold true...Best thing to do, would be to locate a manual for the board, and see if there are any jumpers that need to be moved... Then take a look in bios...My setting for fsb, is under "System Frequencies/Voltage..etc".. If you have hypertransport, be aware, that your fsb may say 200MHz, but you have to multiply that by the hypertransport speed to get the effective fsb.....For Ex. My hypertransport speed is set at 1000, and my fsb is turned up to 218, therefore effectively giving an fsb of 2180...Be careful though, overclocking the fsb too much will make the system very unstable.

Just to make sure, do you have to put name and pass in the router to login?(your verizon name/pass) I found sometimes you need to change the DefaultReceiveWindow and DefaultSendWindow to a multiple of MSS.. Try to put - 511104 - for the DefaultReceiveWindow, and - 127776 - for DefaultSendWindow. Sometimes I found if the windows are not multiple of MSS, webpages may load slow, and speed tests may be off...Try those values.. I attached 2 ccs with the values adjusted... Try both files and let me know if its any better..

The node here would burst into flames if I ran at that speed on OOL... Out here they SUCK... I used to slow down to dial up at night...Now its 24/7 top speed..And my ping problems(which OOL's techs told me over and over was a problem with my pc), have mysteriously gone away...

Are you saying that your pc is behind 2 routers? If that is the case, you may want to turn off firewall in second router(or put pc in the DMZ or the second router, since 1st router should be protecting you)...The SPI will slow things down a bit.. It could be communication problem between the routers, causing retransmission, which would slow you down also.. Try testing pc behind first router, and see if there is a difference in speed.. Also check this page out if you haven't yet.. http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=2097.0

That's odd, cause it works very well for me, and a bunch of other people I know... When adjusted right, my webpages and downloads are much faster...

I was in that boat until 2 months ago....Only had OOL, which for a while was great, until they oversold the node here, and I couldnt get dial up speeds at night, when I was supposed to get 10000/1000...The most I could get at night was 1500/600...Not even close to what I was paying for... Thank god for Fios..

I'm sure there aren't too many who use msn anyway...I only use it for email..

I suppose you could add MSN...I have the msn premium(came with the Fios). I don't use it very much, but some may use it..

If you're on the 15/2, your router shouldn't be a problem...The 30/5 gives some routers trouble.... http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1013.0;attach=2784 Heres the newest vanburen cablenut settings..Look under the fiberoptic ones for Verizon Fios 15000/2000 PPPoE..(unless you are dhcp, but most likely PPPoE) We get around 12,000-15,000 on our wireless here(we have the 30/5), and I haven't really tried to tweak it too much..(since I never use the wireless)..With some tweaking, you shouldn't lose too much speed if any... As far as install goes....its going to take a while...(we got phone service too, so it took a little longer), but ours went very well, and the installer was very professional... Welcome to Team Fios

Just for fun, uninstall the modem usb drivers, disconnect the usb from the pc...Reboot Plug in usb for modem in a different usb port, and do not let windows automatically install it... You should have a disk that they gave you with the modem for the usb drivers... When you plug in the modem, and get the hardware update wizard, select "install from a list or specific location" , click next, then choose "Don't search. I will choose what drives to install" , click next, and choose your hardware from the list...I think you need to choose modem, but possibly usb controllers..try selecting modem first and click next. Then select the "have disk" option, and manually locate the drivers on the disk, and try to install it that way.... If you want the best speeds, and best performance, the $15-$20 on an ethernet card is the way to go...I remember the days of usb, and constant connection problems...I rarely have problems with ethernet, and if I do its normally with my ISP or other hardware... Best solution..Buy and ethernet card(even if its not the problem, it will still give you better speeds) Second best..Try the above and maybe you will get lucky... Third best...Do as you stated above and "format c:" If all else fails, find a big hammer.. Good luck...

http://j79zlr.com/cablenutXP2k.php --XP http://j79zlr.com/cablenutME98.php --98/ME Go to the appropriate site, and make your own ccs files for cablenut.... put 5000 for download 520 for upload and and 200 for ping...You can make a few, with differrent ping number, and see which works best...

If you haven't, download Cablenut --- http://www.cablenut.com/ I attached a css file for xp, and 98...(I made them under assumption you have 5000/768 ..you may need to adjust, but see how they work..) Intall cablenut, apply setting for your o/s, reboot, retest, and post the results.. You'll be flyin in no time.. Post a trace route to testmy.net Are you using an ethernet card, or usb?..if usb, there is problem number 1.
