I'd love to figure this out myself. I think you may have the same problem I have, well... kinda. I stream a ton of Media to my PS3, it plays great almost all the time. But sometimes when I pause and come back... ERROR! And sometimes the folders will disappear and I have to restart the media server to get it to work again. I've thought till this point that it was because I was running PS3 Media Server on a Mac (a program that was originally designed for Windows). Now you're making me wonder if I may have discredited the problem too early. If you don't get your answer here can you please let our community know the solution. It may help me and some of our future visitors. - Damon

Welcome to the site... hope you enjoy your stay

Awww, poor guy. The download will get you by but that upload .... .... -- but hey, it's better than dial-up. And if you have DirecWay you must not have many options in your area. DirecWay isn't the best but it's better than most other options if you're in a rural area. It definitely serves a purpose in the market. -D

Clicking On Some Speed Testing Links Results In Error Page
CA3LE replied to zalternate's topic in v10.8
uuuuhh, annoying! I seriously don't know what's causing this. For some reason the new version of IPB has taken liberties outside it's own directory. I mean, I call upon it all over the site but that doesn't mean it should be taking the liberties it's taking. Anyways, I got a temp fix for this... this is a head scratcher and it's stressing me out too much right now. For some reason if you add an ampersand at the end of the URL it works. So future links are now being printed with this for now. I'll figure it out. -

Still waiting on this.. they answered another ticket I had, I think they just didn't realize that I opened another one. I just bumped the ticket though. -D -
Cool, thanks for helping me remember to do that. Fixed, also updated the menu. resolved, topic closed
-
I'll correct that in a bit. I turned it off because it had errors. It's resolved i just need to turn it back on when I get to my console. This new theme will work much better. It's a newer version with many fixes, that's why it's the default now. D

Clicking On Some Speed Testing Links Results In Error Page
CA3LE replied to zalternate's topic in v10.8
I didn't delete those lines on accident, it's all there I've got a ticket in with invision. For some reason with this new board IPB has been trying to handel a couple of things that I don't want it to... like error handeling outside of it's directory, I don't want it to do that. ... Secondly, there is NO error in that link, everything is where it should be but IPB has still taken the liberty to throw an error page up for something outside it's directory. I understand why, IPB is called upon on every page request.... but it should still keep to itself in it's own directory. It did before the upgrade. They'll give me some better insite into what's causing this. This is like the 4th headache with my .htaccess redirects that this new install has given me. I worked around the other ones but this is getting ridiculous, I need a full solution for the entire problem... it's obviously causing problem. The Invision Staff pretty quick to help, I checked the 'critical' button on the ticket... it really is critical, there are tons of links on the internet that reference this. Thanks again for reporting that, I'll let you know once it's resolved. -Damon -
Read this... http://www.testmy.net/legit_speed_test.php -- it may provide insite into the variance. Your speeds aren't really that different. And your speeds will be different on any test if your connection is in use... as long as the test you're using actually does what it's supposed to do. Let me know if this helps you understand the difference between testmy.net and other speed test sites. - Damon

I made changes to the .htaccess -- must have removed that line on accident. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I'm on it. -
Okay, it's all good... This is actually normal. Some routers on the internet and our network prioritize packets so they may not respond to a certain percentage (or in this case 100%) of the *direct* queries to the router itself, and let the rest of the packets through. This is to keep load on the router to a minimum so it's only processing packets that are on their way to their destination. If there were issues with the router, you would see it reflecting in all the subsequent hops in the traceroute. Uuuuh, I'm so tired right now I didn't even really look at the trace. So yeah, your traceroutes look good. You should really look into some spyware removal like Zalternate said. Here's some more information about SIMBAR from McAfee >> http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_131206.htm

That's actually one of my hosts hops. I've got a ticket in, they're looking into it. I'll let you know what they find. After that's resolved we can make a better diagnosis. -CA3LE

(note: I have renamed this forum, I hadn't realized that they changed their name. The new forum name reflects this, thank you for bringing that to my attention with the topic subject line) Post a trace route to testmy.net and google.com... we may see where the problem is if we have a couple of traceroutes. To run a traceroute... Windows Start > Run > type CMD [enter] > from the command prompt type tracert google.com and/or tracert testmy.net Linux / Mac Under Applications/Utilities open 'Terminal' > type traceroute google.com and/or traceroute testmy.net Paste those results here. ... copy and paste the results here .. yeah there is also definitely cause for concern regarding... Test Browser and OS info: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; SIMBAR={7C2A6D79-3BB0-4D53-855F-1BB2C10EE4C7}; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; MySpace;; MySpace;)

I may have had some rsync or something running. It's rare that my entire connection is unused.

great to hear that you figured out the problem. With great speed comes great responsibility... lol Also, one note. Another thing that people don't take into consideration is also the CPU and Disk Speed.... You could have a 100Mbps line but if those can't keep up then you'll never be able to max out. My girlfriends macbook before I changed the hard drive was only able to get half my line speed. I changed my hard drive out for a SSD and gave her my old hard drive and now she maxes out the line. Something that not many people take into consideration... just a side note. -Damon
