Hi jrivett, Thanks for the kind words. I'll be revisiting the charting again soon and top priority is to provide details on the mouseover. The thing is, TMN does this now if the chart is only displaying one type of test. It's turned off when you introduce two types because I allow upload and download tests to be taken separately, there is often an uneven number of one or the other and I only have a single axis to put the information. I'm working on it, it can be hard to get to because I have so much other development going on. Although, I agree, it's an annoying detail that needs to be addressed sooner than later. If you click 'only download' or 'only upload below the graph, above the details... then you'll see that information on mouseover. I hope to have that fixed to always display in v14, coming soon. Thank you for your continued patronage, please help spread the word... TestMy.net is word-of-mouth so I rely on people like you to tell more people like you. - Damon - TestMy.net

I get emails like this all the time. Sometimes people are confused and think that I'm somehow associated with the ISPs and companies I provide information on. I'm not... I can't access your account, I can't send a tech and I definitely can't disconnect your service. TestMy.net is a third party and is in no way associated with any of the companies and ISPs listed. Hi Alan, Unfortunately you've contacted TestMy.net not Wildblue. It's actually not uncommon for people to email me thinking that I'm affiliated with the companies and ISPs I provide information on. I even get random calls on my cell phone, one just yesterday actually. I talk to some ISPs, I prodive tests for some ISPs but I do not have any affiliation with any ISPs. I just provide the tests to help you keep them honest about the speeds you're supposed to get. I work for the consumer. Contact Wildblue - I wish you luck getting the best speed possible in your area. Maybe that's with Wildblue... maybe someone else. I assume that if you're on satellite, you must be stuck with limited options (satellite is usually not by choice, lol). In my ISP ranking ViaSat rates higher than Wildblue and Hughes Net. ... but I haven't seen any other them first hand. I just know about the complaints I hear. Wildblue and Hughes I'd bet have the lowest satisfaction rate in the industry. I've been doing what I do since 1996... out of all the ISPs I've had complaints on there are three that stand out as consistently pissing off their customers. Wildblue, Hughes Network and SmartBro (an Asian wifi ISP). They're pretty much even on the number of complaints I've heard. Just realize that satellite has limitations, there is a huge roundtrip involved as the data flies out into orbit and back to earth... it then has to take the conventional land routes that other people take. The latency is what kills you. Having said that, there are a lot of advances in satellite in recent years that have boosted speed. Do your homework, make sure you're getting good equipment and have it installed by someone highly experienced. If you have other options in your area like CABLE, DSL or 4G LTE you will always get better results with those over satellite. Even at lower speeds you'd have a more reliable, snappy, responsive and better Internet experience. - Good luck, happy testing, - Damon - TestMy.net

Hi Troy, this email is going to be a little long but I want to explain a few things. Hopefully you read it. This is one of the most common questions I get. There are many reasons why speedtest.net reads so high. First read Why do my results differ from speedtest.net / ookla. They admit in their own wiki that they alter the results. They ignore the worst 30% and fastest 10% because flash protocol is an inaccurate testing platform that they must make adjustments for. How can that be accurate? You can't alter the results! That's not a test in my opinion. They also by default test you off the closest server. Often within 50 miles. This usually eliminates many factors that you need to test to get a full picture. How can you test your Internet if you're not really reaching out to the Internet. On TMN I could easily incorporate testing off the closest server... but I'm not here to make you feel good, I'm here to try to help you get the most out of your connection. My competition is out to stroke egos... people feel good and share their results, "LOOK HOW FAST I AM!!" - bringing them more traffic and perpetuating the misconceptions. They make it seem like you need to test close to you to be accurate. The only reason I offer mirrors on TMN is for route comparison. I believe that the best test is actually at distance. Longer distance puts your hosts intermediary connections into play... testing how well they peer. Let's be real, the sites you visit are likely to be pretty far away. My servers are hosted in very popular Internet crossroads that any decent provider should be able to provide clean connection to... areas where millions of sites are hosted. Another reason may be multithreading. You most likely can only get closer to gigabit speeds by opening more than one thread. If you download lots of torrents or off usenet then that's not a problem because that's how those files download (split up and multithreaded and recombined later). When you normally download a file, it's a single thread. In my opinion you should always try to benchmark using my normal, default single thread download speed test... but compare the results to the multithread speed test. Let me use my own home network as an example. I just moved to Colorado Springs CO and got Comcast 105 Mbps cable Internet. When I first setup I was only getting a max of about 30 Mbps, really spotty performance. It was up, then down... then back up. Something was wrong. I had just installed a brand new Linksys AC 1750 router... TestMy.net showed me that router was just not delivering. If I hooked directly to the ethernet I was getting nearly full speed. I went through the wiring and replaced all the coax connections and added a splitter to drop the signal level down a bit (the readings on the modem were a little high). Tested again and off ethernet I was now getting over the 105 Mbps Comcast promised. But my wireless performance left much to be desired, even right next to the router I was getting degraded speed. Changed channels and it helped quite a bit but I wasn't able to get the same speeds as direct ethernet or off the modem directly. ... I ordered a Netgear Nighthawk AC 1900 off newegg and promptly returned the POS Linksys (I flip flop ver the years, sometimes I love linksys... but this time I was unimpressed). As soon as I setup the Nighthawk I fell in love. My speed now maxes out no matter where I am in my house. I was especially impressed by the signal quality I get in my backyard, every other router I've tried has an issue with my patio. The new energy efficient dual pane metallic coated glass that most sliding glass doors and windows now use is the problem... totally screws with the signal. Been annoying the crap out of me for a long time. I got the Nighthawk and it must just be powerful enough to not be an issue because I haven't had any issues like that since. Best router I've ever seen. First with a dual-core... but that's another topic all together. ... okay, so my point. During that testing, when I was getting degraded speed and was troubleshooting, I ran multithread tests and for fun I tested at my competition. The results would have led me to believe that there wasn't an issue, there obviously was an issue... this is why I don't have the multithread option as default. Just like in school, you get more help and learn more from a more difficult test. My classic download test is the hardest Internet speed test to ace. My competition multithreads by default, leading to a false sense of pride. If you perform much better on multithread then work towards bringing up the single thread results. TCP and MTU tweaking can be a huge help. Try TCP Optimizer from speedguide.net if you use windows. It's free and has no install, it just helps tweak the settings. OSX and Linux usually don't need much help but searching for Linux TCP gigabit tuning or OSX TCP gigabit tuning may help. If you find settings for your OS that help you please share them with me ormy forum. Future visitors with consumer gigabit will thank you. Keep in mind that I've dedicated myself to this subject. Although TMN started in 2001 I've been testing speed and helping people get more speed since 1996. Much longer than my competition. My servers have more than enough power to serve you, connected by a minimum of 1000 Mbps. My main server is especially powerful, connected with 2x1000 Mbps uplinks, round robin load balanced, solid state raid 5 array and 24 cores... trust me, I have juice on tap at all times and upgrade my servers way before traffic is an issue. You can't test bandwidth accurately unless you have excess bandwidth on the server end... I make sure it's always there and constantly monitor my servers. I hope this helps with your question. I wish you the best of luck pulling more out of that... your speed is awesome, don't get hung up just because you aren't able to pull gigabit out of it. Google fiber could be shaping the bandwidth and only allowing you so much bandwidth per thread, I don't know for a fact but I've seen other ISPs do that. You still have a gigabit uplink but they might limit the way you can utilize it. It could also be that along the route somewhere you're crossing a 100 Mbps bottleneck, testing to my speed test mirrors can help you discover routing issues like that. I would look into that horrible upload speed though. Try testing with the largest size and see what you get. I don't have a multithread upload test yet but I am working on it for the future. I'd expect much higher upload results than 4 Mbps. Keep in mind that right now I have a limited 33MB upload test size, at gigabit speeds that goes too fast so the highest scores you can expect would be maybe 200-300 Mbps. Upload size will be increased eventually. Connections like yours are still rare so it's not at the top of my priorities. If you get over 100 Mbps on the upload test... it usually means that you're pretty dialed in. Good luck getting the most out of that insane connection you have! Thank you for your continued patronage, happy testing! - Damon - TestMy.net

With a heavy heart I need to break bad news...
CA3LE replied to tdawnaz's topic in General Discussion
Very sad, he will be missed. His name was James K Wilson. There are many old members MIA. I often wonder if they're still out there. Cheers Jame! -
I've seen that in OSX Snow Leopard but never got the answer why. Personally I updated to the latestest OSX and problem solved. You obviously have something else going on. If you know that the connection is faster, e.g. you have hooked another computer up the exact same way and got much better results (as you have done)... you should first look into the MTU and TCP settings. They may not be optimal. Get TCP Optimizer, set to your connection levels, reboot and retest. When I've seen issues like that in windows usually that takes care of it. Also, look into any recently installed programs... especially along the lines of Internet security suites. In my experience those almost always screw things up, bog you down and slow down your transactions and download speed. anyone else have input? If you solve it, please share the solution.

Set identifiers on previously-done speed tests.
CA3LE replied to XANAVirus's topic in Ideas to make testmy.net better?
You'll be able to do that and a lot more soon. I'll be really expaning on sorting, filtering and adding your own custom identifiers. Identifiers are really handy when you have many computers or are performing benchmarks you want grouped or separated. I've had them since at least 2010... keep looking around, I'm sure there's many more option / features you haven't noticed. I often add things without making announcements or talking about them. You really have to look close to catch a lot of it. By contrast the features I'm bundling into v14 will be hard to miss. Like last year (almost exactly a year ago) going from v12 to v13. You're a beta tester so you'll be amoung the first to know when I start testing new stuff. Although, almost all of v14 will bypass beta testing. So it will be a suprise for everyone... I bet I even suprise myself a little. -
Hi Andre, Yes, there is a TMN server in Florida. It's not my own but is hosted by a powerful host. I've seen some crazy speed out of sietec's servers. You can see it at https://testmy.net/mirror/sietec set this sietec in Miami FL to default. Read sietec's two cents, posted in response to someone questioning TMN results. Interesting how far he put my method under the microscope. But you actually misunderstood the "CDN Push => Tampa, FL" means that it's testing from CDN Push to Tampa FL... if it said TX before it was due to your location being incorrectly detected. Hosts move IP addresses around and my databases for connecting your IP to your location are only 83% accurate to the city level. Especially true for mobile users, who can grab an IP from one area and then drive it with them to a new city. It's hard to detect that without being invasive. It's usually correct. In the future I'll implement GPS and the ability to define location. CDN Push uses CloudFlare's network. Looking at the network map you should be testing out of Miami using that method. If you get worse results using that method it may be due to route congestion. Personally, my home connection is weaker using CDN Push but my verizon 4G LTE usually fairs better. CDN method is good to try because it's the way that many websites are delivering large volume and static content. When I test from my home connection the CDN method seems to have a little lag, then huge burst... on my LTE it's just a huge burst. So, something along that route to my Cox connection must be causing that. I test using other servers and I never see that. I offer an array of testing methods because there is an array of possibilities to how you download and how the download is delivered. Good, clean running ISPs have less variance between the different servers and testing methods. I always suggest testing with my main server and comparing those results to the other mirrors. The default is the most powerful and overstocked server I have. It's also centrally located in the US right at the heart of server valley. Besides, the location of the server is irrelevant. Others and myself have proven many times that distance does not have to be a factor. I have records of people pulling many hundreds of Mbps across 1/2 the planet, and still have super low ping times. There is a HUGE misconception that you need to be close to the server to achieve your speeds. This is a misconception that your ISP loves... but the truth is... if the intermediate links were better there's no reason why you couldn't pull your full speeds at any distance, under the right network configuration and circumstance. Regarding speedtest.net... read Why do my results differ from ookla / speedtest.net - there are MANY factors that differ between TestMy.net and ookla speed tests. The one major one that sticks out in my mind when I hear a FiOS customer with speeds like yours... multithreading. What I see more often than not with FiOS (and 100+ Mbps consumer level broadband in general) is that you need to multithread to see anywhere near the top speed. This, I believe is due to either bandwidth shaping or due to the connection being split over channels. Commercial connections I work with will often perform better or at least the same with my classic test. If you take a multithread speed test it will be instantly obvious. My own home connection is effected, Cox Communications supposed 150/25... Using the classic linear speed test I get around 50-60 Mbps but when I multithread it opens up to nearly 90 Mbps. I know it can't do any higher because sometimes it will cause Pandora to skip and have issues... meaning I've sucked my connection dry. The max I've seen on Giganews is 92 Mbps, across 50 threads. ... in my opinion, you shouldn't have to open multiple threads to max out your connection. I leave my classic method as default because I'm not here to stroke egos, I'm here to help you all get the most out of your Internet. Okay... question 2, lol. The make a speed test is intended for 100 Mbps uplinks and higher. I personally use a minimum of 1000 Mbps on all my mirrors, my home server has 2 1000 Mbps uplinks on a round robin to balance the load across both interfaces. ... there is A LOT of head room. One of the many differences at TestMy.net is that I truly want to deliver the highest level of accuracy. Rule number 1, a speed test can't be accurate if there isn't enough bandwidth. So, your slow down is not because I'm getting a lot of hits... TMN gets a lot of traffic but I closely monitor what's going on. I have live monitors on my phone with me at all times. The mother server I have right now is so powerful I estimate that I can load it with at least 10X the traffic I have right now and users will still be unaffected by other users testing. It's a 24 core beast, to be honest it's by far the most powerful machine I've ever had the pleasure of working with. I'll have it replaced again before overloading it becomes an issue and if my traffic exploded insanely overnight, I can have more beasts online in minutes. > --- it's never an issue but if you wanted to double check it's as easy as going to https://testmy.net/live and look at the results others are getting. Also, researching into recent results for your city, country or ISP can show if others locally are able to get better speeds than you are. I see MANY verizon users in your area pulling better speeds than you are. So you might even have an issue with your TCP or internal network. Which often don't show up on other speed tests... because most other speed tests multithread by default and actually ignore portions of the result. Leading to a false sense of pride. You took the time to write a lengthy query so I wrote a lengthy respond... I hope you read it, it helps and you learn from it. - Cheers, - Damon - TestMy.net

I get a lot of emails like this. Sometimes the person takes the time to post in the forum, many times not. Maybe they're shy. First, have you tried the mirrors or the multithread speed test? Please direct your question to my forum. More people answering your question usually helps in this kind of situation. Plus, other people can be helped by reading the solution. Hey John, Yeah, it's a program I wrote, I've been developing it since I was 15... I turn 32 in November. The source is closed but I do allow you to host a test using your server resources. Basic LAMP server gets the job done. https://testmy.net/make-a-speed-test for more info. Totally free, works with all my tools, extremely stable, requires very little resources and is the same core I use for my own mirrors. This is however intended for people hosted on 100 Mbps, 1000 Mbps and higher uplinks. But I have allowed home users and local testing for cool people. The architecture and concept has been proven and tested under all circumstances, by myself and many smarter than me. Local and out to the net, time after time it performs equally well and matches what's really happening across the network interface. The whole reason I released self hosting was to have it scrutinized, almost immediately people did just that. Here's one example of someone who put my methods under the microscope... https://testmy.net/ipb/topic/30731-multithread/#entry339762 I hope you like what I've built and share it. My traffic builds by word-of-mouth only. Kinds regards, - Damon - TestMy.net Extra note from Damon: TMN runs proprietary software, developed by myself solely for this purpose. Sorry but the source is closed.

I think it's funny, I actually get a few emails like this every month. I thought that I make it pretty clear how to get the test rolling right on the homepage.. maybe not. lol Maybe to some it's confusing... can't make everyone happy I guess. Hi Tawfik, Just go to TestMy.net and click "Test My Internet" ... this will test both upload and download speed. Comparison to your ISP, City, Country and the World will be provided in your results. - Hope this helps, - Damon - TestMy.net

I was doing some app dev research, been playing with PhoneGap to build a native iOS and Android app from my existing development for TMN. I was browsing their app directory to see if I can deliver the polished look I desire using this method and found an awesome app for my baby girl. I search the app store all the time for games that she'll like... she hasn't liked any of them as much as this game. My daughter Makenna (turns 2 in 2 months) claps and cheers the whole time she plays it. Obviously, she gets sick of it after a while but loves it again each time I put it on for her. The developer has done a great job. Makenna was instantly able to grasp the concept and within a couple minutes of playing was navigating the menus. I paid $0.99 for the full version and in my opinion it paid for itself instantly. Keep in mind that the free version still has a lot to offer... I would have paid them even if it didn't unlock anything extra. I just wanted to share this simple, educational and rewarding toddler game. Baby Goo on iTunes (Handful of free puzzles, $0.99 unlocks 18 puzzles.)

Share your multithread speed test results and compare to the classic linear download test. Post your own results however you want. Post a single result... Or get deeper in your comparison Adjusting the options can give you more insight into how your connection performs. Here's what I've done in my example below. First multithread result is testing to all US servers... ... 2nd is testing to all international servers only. ... 3rd is testing to all servers... To be more scientific I'm also manually selecting 100MB test each time. If you want to get a consistent test size between your experiments select the servers you want then click 'Save', simply select download test from the main menu and select a manual size as you normally would. As long as you have multithread enabled it will be evoked with all your download tests. (btw, it shows a different size in multithread but is accurate to the exact amount of actual data transferred. You select 100 MB but because of the way that test works it's not actually exactly 100MB... just know that it's extremely precise, okay! It gives you the best match. By contrast classic linear is capable of serving exact sizes down to the byte.) How does your connection compare?

Speed Test Stats -- ALL ISP PROVIDERS ARE ACCEPTED IN THIS POST!
CA3LE replied to ajb62787's topic in Show off your speed
Tell them, "Hey! Don't I have the right to a third party opinion?" The person who started the poll didn't make it the right way... should have split it into two questions. I fixed it and add a few extra options. Thanks for pointing that out. Should work good for you now. -
Hi George, Complain. They should deliver at least 80% to be considered good. 60% is the absolute minimum... I would be very angry if my ISP delivered less than 60% of the package speed. First, I don't see that you've registered, register. That way your stats will be saved by username, if your IP changes the results will follow you. Test from multiple mirrors to show that it's not isolated in the route and try the multithread speed test to see if your connection performs better with extra threads. Multithread test mimics the way that website content, torrents and usenet download. It also has the ability to test across the entire TMN global network using a single test... providing what I think is the most comprehensive speed test result available. Also try running an automatic speed test, which will provide a curve over time and show you if you've got issues only during certain hours. Use the options I provide to get the best picture of your connection overall. If you do all of that and aren't able to get anywhere close to your speed, you deserve an explanation. Hit your ISP up with the results and make them deliver on your agreement! Good luck, I hope TMN helps... if it does, let me know. - Damon - TestMy.net

Thanks! Welcome to TestMy.net. I hope my site plays a part in helping you get more from your connection. You may want to try the Auto Speed Test in your situation.

thanks for your patronage... I really haven't even started yet. Keep visiting and over time you'll watch it get closer and closer to my vision. I'm one guy putting it all together so it takes time... but I'm always developing to make TMN better for you. I have much more in store, stick around and see.

Sorry, my dog has been very sick so I didn't have a chance to reply yet. Currently TiP (Test in Progress) measurements are only on download speed tests over 1.5 MB. I'm developing the same concept for the upload speed test but at this time it doesn't have that capability. Keep visiting, that and much more will be released before you know it. ... it would be great to see that much detail in the upload test too. But it's not easy to pull off. I have some ideas of how to do it, we'll just have to see if I can get it to come together. Also note TiP is disabled on the multithread speed test. In the future I may make those work together. One thing you can do is use a network monitor of some kind during the test. Personally on Mac OSX I just use Activity Monitor most of the time (which comes with OSX). It's not very detailed but it can still provide a good idea of the curve. Here's the Activity Monitor / Network during that test ... green spike is the initial loading of form data, the red is the data being uploaded back. I actually spike at ~1.3 MB/s but it takes time to build that speed so my overall score is reduced. ...information that will be nice to see right in your browser. But right now, only on the download test. I see that you're using Windows you could try Bit Meter 2 (simple, free...). Want more, search Google for something like "network speed monitor" -- to get deeper detail on what's actually happening across your network adapter, find a program you like and use it in conjunction with TestMy.net. hope this helps, -D

Best Internet Service Provider at Cabanatuan City
CA3LE replied to Eloise Verona's topic in General Discussion
To find that information look into the stats for Cabanatuan City Philippines. To search for other cities, countries or ISPs go to https://testmy.net/database. Once you've found what you're looking for click the ranking tabs to see member and ISP ranking. After looking, Philippine Long Distance seems to be the best choice in Cabanatuan City right now. SmartBro seems to have a lot of user complaints. People are always trying to make it faster. -
Welcome to TMN Mr. Yukon! I hope to see you post about you passions. I can always use good content and writing about what your passionate about equals good content... always. See ya around, thanks for your continued patronage. - D btw... awesome speeds. FiOS is the sh!t.
-
Hey BarryG, welcome to TMN. You haven't logged any results under your username yet but I see your results at https://testmy.net/compID/34592821216. That's a really big difference from your first test. Also fast for satellite. How does surfing the Internet feel? Are you downloading files that fast? How does youtube HD load and play?
-
There may be congestion along your route to that server. I can tell you that it's not an error. I have a new tool that will be released soon that will help highlight problem areas along your route. Join the beta program if you'd like to try it out now.
-
Welcome to TestMy.net! You're welcome... keep visiting, I'm just getting started. I hope that in the end TMN gives you enough evidence to get your provider to take notice to your situation. That's why I built this.

yeah... that's fast for sure. That will definitely bump you up in the ranking. Lol, you're #5 right now. https://testmy.net/memberstats nice.
