  1. well Bro. my view exactly but with petrol at $ 2 a quart , that maybe a problem But I guess for them, with the family manor house being in the family for more than 400 years , it must hurt some , don't get me wrong I am all for sharing the countries wealth out more evenly, and I indeed only own a modest house , but it is not the working man that gains from this tax,
  2. Hi Tommie , yes a very unfair tax in my view also, just because somebody has been prudent during their life the Gov, grabs a handfull of cash , then the Gov. complains us Brits are not saving enough , This Tax has been the ruin of many nobel families in the UK, they inherit the title and the manor house ( and why not, it is their right ) then have to sell it to foriegn middle East buyers to pay the Tax. or give it to the Gov. and live in the stable block , while the house is opened to the public to view at $20 a ticket, kinda rubbing the salt in the wound IMO ,
  3. Hi Reso...... I wish , they get me to phone Dell, or whoever , I then spend hours talking to some numbskull, then finally get home at 2 am , and have to get up for work at 6am , I now find it easier to say I dunno, take it back to the store, but then I get hours of, you will never guess what the store said , bloody rip off merchants etc, one of my "friends" ( free support ) took her HP puter back, and came back with it, and a new one , the original was 18 months old well done PC world
  4. Hey Ca3le, as your dog cant tell you his birthday, Just pick a day that you feel like throwing a party, he will think you dim but will go along with it anyway, they are very tolerant of homo sapiens inability to understand the true meaning of life, that is , can you eat it , if not screw it , failing that P*ss on it , Regards Roco UK
  5. In my experience in the UK I tried this a year back, as Swimmer said there are to many variables involved, also it is a steep learning curve, yeah I had some customers on dial up, with slow puters , I spent many hours that I didn't charge for, I gave out loan puters, while I sorted out their's, in the end it was easier to get a regular job, and do this part time, that worked fine until I got busy , and was suffering from the lack of sleep , Try doing a clean install on a 500MHz, fully loaded , finding the drivers etc. it was cheaper for the customer to buy a new superstore puter , my big problem is I am too honest and told the customer just that , so all I have now is a lot of gratefull ex customers, that E-mail me for free, and say"how do I " but that I wouldn't change , I have been told that web site design for small Mom & dad biz. is where the money is, Just wish I knew more about that ,

  7. well the basic answer is Yes , if you drink coffee in a restaurant , yes if you use a toilet, The radio is now free, but not long back you had to pay , and again for a radio in your car , that was extra , also in those days , for owning a dog, this caused many working families to turn out the family pet , that it was scrapped , do you have Inheritance tax ? when you die, any money (house, savings , insurances etc ) over

    Keyboard problem

can you try a usb keyboard , to see if you have the same problem ? you could have a look at task manager > performance , to see CPU usage and mem. availible, I sometimes get this using Incredimail , and found the CPU was at 100%, I just do a spell check, and it comes back down , LOL I very much doubt it is the Dell Spec, keyboard lag kinda went away with the 166 Mhz CPU

  15. Hi guys , we got a new motoring law on our UK statute books, I kid you not. A car can be now confiscated if it "is causing, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public". How is a policeman supposed to know what the general understanding of 'annoyance',or 'alarm' or 'distress' is defined as? well my flashy neighbour with his new BMW annoys me , slamming his car door at 6AM, now where have I left that phone

  17. :lol:Nice one Cholla I think I can go one better than that , on a 2 stroke engine with integral gearbox , separated from the engine with a oil seal , I found if the oilseal was shot, that filling the gearbox with 2 stroke mix, the engine would run on the throttle by sucking the fuel through the seal , and I would give demonstrations of running the engine with the fuel tank removed, I made a name as the guy that could run a engine on just air, as a teenager I had a little motorcycle tuning biz.on the side, the last 2 stroke I looked at was a Kawasaki , I hung up my tools at that point ,
  18. Yeah it is a amazing site , good to see guys going for it, with very little supprt , and not giving up, thinking outside the box, but if they come up with something good I guess the giants will tread on it, and give the guy a $ million or so to retire

  22. Hi FiberOptic I am not on Bt , my Isp is Pipex , but of course it does use the Bt line. I only posted the line test and info as a few Uk members , have raised the question of why do they not get 8Mb , I was trying to demonstrate that your speed was dependant on other factors , apart from the sales talk from BT , as they never mention that you could get only 1650Kbps from their UP to 8Mb service , most new customers do not have a full line test b4 signing up, the standard sign up test is only to the exchange , and comes from a list of exchanges that have DSL availible, yes indeed cable is awesome in comparison to DSL unfortunatly I am unable to get cable, but I dont have the need for speed anyway, Regards Roco UK
  23. I have 2x512's according to task manager I never have less than 400 availible I moved up from 1x512 and did not see a big differance but changing the graphics card turned the turbo on for me , adding a 3rd 512 lowered the performance test I was running, and it ended up in another puter that needed it p,s. I dont do games though,
  24. Hi Voltageman , yes you are right on the Electric motive power , just moving the problem somewhere else , although the generation may be more fuel efficient as the IC engine efficiency is only about 40% your last paragraph would be the ideal way to go, do you have any electric city cars, ? never seen one in London UK,
  25. Anybody out there is using Bt yahoo 8mb as isp prov? Never seen anyone in the UK get 8Mb with BT DSL, it is sold on the "UP to 8Mb" I just done the BT engineer line test to my exchange (1.8Km.) and got this --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The speed test has completed on test server test.speedtester.bt.com for user 0208xxxxxxx and you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of 1905 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second. Your IP address is 217.47.xx.xxx, your browser is reported as being Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and is running on Windows XP. BT would regard the speed ranges shown below as normal service: For 250Kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250Kbps. For 500Kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500Kbps. For 1000Kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000Kbps. For 2000Kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000Kbps. For 8000Kbps End Users speeds between 1600 - 8000Kbps You may now disconnect from the speed test account (click 'disconnect' in your internet connection window) and if you wish to regain normal access to the internet please re-connect to your ISP using your usual username and password. Please note that test results may vary according to varying traffic in the network. If you continue to experience slower throughput when logged in to your ISP, this may be due to a slow internet site or high traffic levels beyond the BT Wholesale Network. Please report this situation to your ISP's helpdesk. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BT is happy to sell me the up to 8Mb service ? but note the low speed complaint level, below that they will not provide any assistance , I loose about 5-10% testing in the USA, much will depend on distance to exchange, by line length, not straight map distance , also the age and condition, B.T. are not likely to renew your line unless you are on a business contract Just bear in mind the "UP TO 8Mb " means just that , if you get 1650Kbps as far as BT is concerned that is acceptable ,
