  1. Try these links about tweaking Linux, i never had a linux system myself but these guys seem to know what they talking about http://www.web100.org/docs/senior_thesis.pdf'>http://www.web100.org/docs/senior_thesis.pdf http://www.psc.edu/networking/papers/sigcomm98/index.htm http://www.psc.edu/networking/projects/auto/ http://www.web100.org/ http://www.psc.edu/networking/projects/tcptune/#Linux good luck VanBuren
  2. Windows defult should work kinda good with that cap, but if you like to test i suggest the 56k tweakfile in dialupfolder. Good luck VanBuren
  3. 1. System restore never works for me aswell, so i disabled it and use Norton ghost, if my pc freaks out 2. quote from dslnuts.com "MSS is the real amount of data you can send/receive at any given time over your connection medium. MSS is a calculated number from MTU (Max Transfer Unit). Most of the time it is calculated by MTU-40=MSS. Some configurations may not fit this forumla though so you can visit the Speedguide.net TCP/IP analyzer to get your correct MSS size. Some common MSS sizes are: Ethernet: 1460 (1500-40) Cable: 1460 (1500-40) aDSL: 1452 (1492-40) Dialup: 536 (576-40)" i suggest you use cablenutprogram and click delete cablenut tweaks and reboot, now run TCP analyzer at speedguide and check your MTU again, the MTU value you see now is what windows find at your ISP service, and thats the value you should use, I dont agree when speedguide
  4. Sounds like you replying to some post but maby its just me............. I dont know how config file for modem works, maby CA3LE can help explaining why ppl can go above their capped speed if its limited in modem. MTU is set by your ISP service, windows MTU detection works great its enabled by defult. Its possible to tweak your connection so its more then 3 times faster, aslong as no cap stopping you. With windows defult setting i score 500 Kbps downstream here, with tweaks around 3.3 Mbps. Speedtest against my ISP show me 5 Mbps downstream without tweaks, with tweaks 9.5 Mbps my cap is 10 Mbps VanBuren
  5. That would help If you get more then 90% of advertised speed i suggest to leave it like that, your RWIN is in range for 3 Mbps. VanBuren
  6. or you can download cablenut program http://www.dslnuts.com/software.shtml quote from www.dslnuts.com xp definitions "33. MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server & MaxConnectionsPerServer - HTTP specification requires that no one computer can have more than 2 simultaneous connections to any single HTTP server. This will affect all Windows application that uses the standard API, including Internet Explorer. People who keep multiple files on an online hard drive hate this restriction, because they can only download two or four files at a time. Windows developers choose to limit the maximum connections to a HTTP 1.0 server to four. In the HTTP 1.1 specification the number of connections was mandated to 2. Value Type: REG_DWORD Default: 4, 2" I use MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server 20 and MaxConnectionsPerServer 10 works good for me, but test whats best for you VanBuren

  8. Hey lilming and welcome to the forum! I suggest you try my tweakguide http://www.testmy.net/forumz/viewtopic.php?t=605 follow every step, post again and let us know how it works. good luck VanBuren
  9. No, try other speedtests aswell, sometimes ppl has better route to www.dslreports.com testservers. I think your RWIN is big enough for 3 Mbps, and also your MTU, too high RWIN will result in more unstable speed and more packetloss on bad routes. VanBuren
  10. I dont know but i did a search for it and found this links its on german http://www.backmagic.de/cgi-bin/forum.pl?read=600 Have no idea what they talking about, but its something about bootdisc, maby you have the file on that i dunno..... http://forums.matroxusers.com/showthread.php?postid=426773#post426773 VanBuren
  11. ive seen too many posts like this, download above 10 Mbps and upload around 1 Mbps from school
  12. yea i should But im too chicken, i bet RTB wont mind adding some more to hes list, a bird whispered in my ear that he kill for free hehe VanBuren
  13. RTB Please add Gregorama to your list, hes pc is too fast........ VanBuren
  14. This helped me find out why there is a big jump in latency across atlantic ocean. http://www.rpatrick.com/tech/speeding/ Eg Stockholm to NY aprox 6300 KM that give a latency drop of 63ms, but its more then that its around 107ms for me, probl set in routing to not overload certain nodes. VanBuren
  15. By defult windows has MTU detection on, so it will find it for you, thats why i suggest to click delete cablenut tweaks and reboot, so all values is set to defult when you run that TCP analyzer So when it says 1400 as MTU i dont think you can overide it, but like MICROWAVE said you can always try, remember to backup your current resgistry settings before using that tool VanBuren
  16. Im sorry but there is no way to get a higher MTU, that is set by your ISP service MTU 1500 or 1400 has very small impact on speed in 3 Mbps range, the thing thats most important is that your MSS is multiple with your RWIN, thats why you should use the RWIN calculator in "advansed" steps in my tweakguide. You can try even higher RWIN values, just remember If your calculated RWIN is above 65535, you need to set Tcp13230pts to 1 Good luck VanBuren
  17. looking good, what was your cap? 4000/512? VanBuren
  18. Its hard to tell what setting that will work good, whole idea of calculating RWIN is based on a cap. But i suggest you find that MSS value and use dsl/cable file that suit your MSS, start with low bandwidth files like 512kbps and later try to go up to 1000 kbps and so on VanBuren
