You can do this.. It is going to require creating a new user and assigning it to the guest/limited group. The way that schools do it most of the time is through profile management and or they run a clean up script on log out. Either way will work.. Sadly I do not have a Windows XP box with me.. I am about 95% sure that everything can be done on a standard windows xp pro machine.

the entire idea behind torrents are the seeds... If no one is seeding then it isnt going to go fast. You may be connected to 9 of 100.. I am not 100% sure but most of the time you are not going to get all of the seeds because of MD5 miss matches, private seeds, or other random crap. BTW Insight is not throttling.. yet.

you should be able to flash it following the v5 process. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WRT54G It looks like it is the same exact hardware as the v5 ones.. My guess is that there were some minor firmware changes.
-
they are exactly the same feature wise.. I would go with the wireless one because of the expandability. The wired one might have a slight performance advantage because some of the CPU isnt being used for processing wireless packets.

This is where you can get it.. http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php A guide to flashing your router.. http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-12222 I believe that you can flash back to the linksys firmware.. I am not 100% sure but I bet if you would look though the Wiki the answer would be there.

I would stay away from the omega drivers from nvidia.. The last time I check they stopped producing the Nvidia drivers for some reason.

Third part firmware for the Linksys WRT-54G series routers. It also runs on a few other. Basically it allows you to do some pretty advanced things on consumer hardware.
-
unless it is one of their budget systems.. Then you are not going to be doing much with that.

You could set up an ICS system. Using two NICs on one computer and running your internet into that one computer. Then using your router as a switch. The only down side is that your ping might not be as good and the main computer is going to have to be online anytime someone wants to use the internet.

so when you boot the computer you can see an image on the tv that you are trying to use? The think that I am talking about is the pinout of the actual cable.. That is the standard S-Video cable. What you need is a 7 pin cable... ATI uses a 7 pin interface because at the same time you can run s-video or HD via composite from that connection.. You need the one on the left. They sell 7 pin to 4 pin cables. They also sell adapters at Radioshack.

Antec is a great choice.. Here are the two, with a system like that, I would be looking at.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103941 Allows you to customize your power supply to what you need. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817371002 Overall one of the highest rated power supplies that they make.

I dont think that the standard S-Video cable will work. From my really old 64mb ATI Radeon to my 9600 Pro, I have never been able to use a standard S-Video cable. I believe the pin out is different. From what what I remember the ATIs require a 7 pin 'Enhanced' S-Video cable.

I am sure that Linksys will release a patch for the firmware so that you can run XBL. Seeing as how the v3 router earned XBL certification I am sure that eventually the v4 hardware will be certified.
-
just dont forward it... As long as the machine is not in the dmz it is protected due to NAT. The other think that you could do it prevent the router from even allowing any traffic over that port by using access restrictions. You are going to have to define a new service in the access restrictions panel. I am not sure if you are going to have to define computer to have the restrictions applied to or if it would apply them to all computer on the network. For those of you who are wondering what I am talking about... He is running DD-WRT on a Linksys WRT54G.

The reason it wont work is because it isnt supported.. There is a huge post on the xbox 360 forums about this problem. I would keep my eye out for a new firmware from linksys. Until then I would maybe invest on a cheap router or upgrade to a WRT54G or GL. http://forums.xbox.com/1636968/ShowPost.aspx For some reason the website isnt rendering correctly.

did you look at IP tables yet? Make it so that the server will only respond to certain IPs.. That should stop the ssh brute force attacks. You can also use IP tables to kill DoS but you are going to have to watch the logs as most of the time they will restart using another IP address.

Let's hear from WinME/Compaq *fans* for a change
Swimmer replied to mogramjo's topic in General Discussion
Good old compaq pre HP... I has a AMD k6-2 500mhz with windows 98se. At the time the top of the line was some where around 2.0ghz?? It was one of those deal from circuit city in the weekend newspapers. The only really big complaint was that everything was custom built for Compaq. It was difficult to upgrade anything in that PC. I put my first dedicated graphic card into it, 64mb ATI Radeon SDRAM. At the time it was a beast and could out perform my buddies Intel P3 700. Then ME came out. I remember going to a friends house to check out his new computer, happened to be a Compaq 7000 series, one with the colored plastic stuff on the case. I think it was a whopping 1.0Ghz or so.. He was trying to show off Flight simulator 2000, it was, and it just crashing. Followed by the entire system crashing. It was a really sweet demo of what ME was all about. I also remember when he unplugged his joystick the system crashed because of a USB fault that ended up crashing the system. So.. that is my recall of Compaq and Windows ME. The OS that was built to take advantage of the millennium. Shortly after that I think Micro$oft was coined. Looking forward I am not really excited about what is coming from the Microsoft camp. It just seems that they are constantly catching up with the rest of the industry. For example IE 7.. That is the answer to Firefox. Which I might remind everyone that FF 3.0 beta is already out for testing and is scheduled to be released in 2007. There, for me, is nothing exciting about IE 7.0. As far as entire operating systems go.. Again not that impressed by Vista. Vista was a bunch of promises that put development behind schedule and then, everything that I was looking forward to, was pulled off the project to make sure that it would be released sometime within the next 2 years. The new interface, Aero, is a direct response to Apple and their OS X. Which might be the best looking OS that I have seen in a while. That is all that I have for now... Now that I am fairly depressed about Microsoft I am off to another topic. -
Happy holidays and Merry Christmas..

I pulled the info from a slashdot post.. So my guess would be it is fine to install.
-
It is my magic touch... glad it is working again.

Have you tried to reset the router recently? Is the IP address that you are give 169.xxx.xxx.xxx? I have never heard of an onboad NIC going bad with out some type of outside problem like a power surge.. Has the onboard NIC ever worked?

The board that is in this computer is a custom Intel board. The only 975 boards that Intel makes for the public are currently ATX.. This being a BTX.. http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboard/index.htm?iid=mbd_main+dt I would call gateway and see what they say.. The fact that Gateway is running the 975 chipset doesnt mean that it will support everything that the standard Intel board will. Alright I found the motherboard name.. It is referenced as the Intel (Lavacot) 975X. However, http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Intel2/4001154/4001154nv.shtml under specs doenst list the Extreme Core 2 at all.

There are ton of products on the market to fix scratched media.. I have not used anything to fix any dvds. I know that hair gel has worked in the past.. It was slashdot'ed a while back. I have never tried it but it sounded like it worked.
