It is hard to tell... The chipset does run the LGA775 processors up to the Extreme Editions.. However, since you bought from a manufacture I would not be suprised if the motherboard is a custom. I would crack the case and see if you can get a model name or number on the motherboard. The only Intel board that I can find is the D975XBX.. Which is an ATX motherboard not a BTX, the type that you have, motherboard. The ATX Intel board supports the 2.93 Core 2 Extreme X6800. If you are able to post more info on that board I might be able to help you out a little more.

Ever wonder what Firefox looks like with ALL plug ins?
Swimmer replied to Shug7272's topic in General Discussion
Someone else ran this test on 1.5 to test stability.. Any crashes yet? 41mb isnt to bad... How long did it take to install all of those? -
I have no problems what so ever with bit torrent. I was able to pull off the latest version of SuSE in under 2 hours on a bit torrent connection. That is 3.1Gb ish? Like Tim suggested check your port forward and you might want to change your client. I have found that UTorrent runs pretty well on Insight. I know that someone keeps a list of ISPs that throttle torrent traffic and so far I have not seen Insight on the list. If I can find the list I will post it for ya.

There are some advantages of both... You can run up to 1Gib Ethernet on cat5.. The only difference between 100mbit and 1000mbit is the number of pairs of wires used in the transmission of the data over the network.. 10/100 uses 2 pair where as 1000 uses all 4 pair in the wire. Most of the time if you want to run 1000mbit speed over Cat 5 you are not going to use standard Cat 5 but Cat 5e which has a more specified set of requirement to qualify. The reason for cat 6 is the improved performance of the physical cable. Cat 6 has less cross talk and provides a higher signal to noise ratio that allows for more reliable connections and transmission of data across the network. The other huge advantage is that it is expected that in the near future 10GbE will run on Cat 6. This is going to be huge because copper then becomes a possible solution for SAN and NAS networks instead of just fiber to push large amounts of data.

That isnt exactly what I would have thought or recommended... But that might work. I was thinking more like the Ultimate Bootcd available here: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/index.html

So.. I didnt even know about this.. but I guess Sun released an Aero like GUI back in 2004 for open development and now it has matured to the point that is available for Linux, Solaris, and XP. Pretty interesting stuff might want to check it out if you want a linux feel with Windows backend. The GUI runs on JAVA from what I can tell. Download site: https://lg3d-core.dev.java.net/binary-builds.html Basic Background on Project Looking Glass 3D: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Looking_Glass Product Demo: http://www.sun.com/software/looking_glass/demo.xml Enjoy!

If the sound that you are describing is a clicking sound.. then the drive is on its way out the door... The only thing that I can I would try would be to run a disk performance analyzer on the disk to check for bad sectors, etc.

I am sure a few of you have run themes before for your desktop.. However, this is the first one that actually looks like the real thing. I know I might like the GUI updates but will not be making the move to Vista any time soon. http://www.windowsxlive.net/index.php?page_id=15 This theme pack includes the following: * Boot screen * Welcome Screen / Logon Screen * New msstyles files (visual styles) * New desktop and file icons * New toolbar icons * Progress Dialogs * Sounds scheme * System Tray icons * New Wallpapers * Windows Media Player Skins

Well it isnt a DoS attack.. If settings are being changed then your box has been compromised. If it was compromised through a brute force attack then it should be in the logs, if they were not already removed or edited. One thing you could try, if you have a static IP, would be to allow only that IP address the use of the ssh port though IP tables.

very nice specs... Not sure if you are going to be gaming on it.. but if you are you might want to check out omegadrivers.net It is a third party ATI driver based on the standard ATI drivers but tuned to get the most performance out of your video card.

llinksys WRT54GS router need more wired ports
Swimmer replied to dtsman's topic in General Discussion
you can add a switch... there is no way to add additional ports to the actual router but adding a switch will give you more ports. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1115416836813&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124005 either of those will work.. I chose Linksys because that is the manufacture that you currently have however any manufacture will work. -
Well you have to have linux installed to be able to run KDE... basically Linux and Windows for that matter is just a command based operating system. Meaning that to actually do anything in the 'OS' the user tells the computer what command to run. For example Ping, the utility to measure latency in a network. This can be run from the command line prompt or you can download a program that allows you to click a button and ping a destination. Basically what the button is doing is running the command for you then showing the results. However, linux takes this one step further. Linux is a command line, I guess, native based operating system. That is to say that originally it was developed to be run exclusively from the command line and for some applications such as server, mainframes and even some work stations this is still done. However, because the software is also free and the growing popularity of Linux as a replacement to Windows the Linux desktop environment was born. Well it was born a long time ago but more advancements have come in the past few years then ever before. Basically what the linux desktop environment is, pretty much at its roots, is an application. It is just another program. So you could install multiple environments if you wanted but that would be a resource hog as each one takes about 1 gb of hard drive space and increases the boot time of the system. To do this you would have to install Gnome or KDE after you complete the installation. (I would do it then just to make sure that the system actually boots and is running before the installation occurs). From there you would open YAST -> Software Management and install the Gnome. I have never tried this and I dont have my installation media here to do it. If some wants to try post your results. Otherwise I will when I get back. Personally I am a KDE fan. I have used Solaris' interface at work and it is decent but it does take a lot of getting use to or just knowing you way around with a terminal windows. Basically Xfce is what Solaris' interface looks like.

hahaha.. a daily show classic! In fact on yesterdays episode it was referenced again when Steward hosted the Presidential candidate from Iowa. When I first saw that it made me wonder if Stevens actually thought it was like a sewer system or something..

I think Storm hit it right on the head... it all comes down to what features you want and what you are really comfortable with at the time of purchace. My dad has the Cingular 8125 with Windows Mobile and likes it a lot! The only thing that I can see that really is a down side it the hardware requirements to run Windows might lead to poor batter life. Either way I am sure that you will enjoy the smart device.

For those of you confused about KDE, Gnome, and all the other players in the Linux desktop environment this is one read that will clear a lot of things up pretty quick... Not a technical read with all the ins and outs but it doest give a really good overview of each. http://techgage.com/article/beginners_guide_to_linux_desktops/

Both are great looking phones... As far as the OS of the phone I would say that Windows Mobile is more geared toward the multimedia side of things where as Palm is more for a business user who doesnt need all the little gadgets. I found this place.. http://www.freewarepalm.com/ They seem to have a pretty good selection of apps and also pop-ups.. So it is atleast a start. As far as instant messaging software.. http://www.agilemobile.com/agile_messenger.html give that a try.. it is basically trillian for Palm.

Welcome to the forum Zook! Yea.. Symantec is known for making it almost impossible to remove their software.. they figure that if it is super difficult then there is no way a virus will be able to disable/uninstall it i guess.. Pretty crazy if you ask me...

Which one is the best web browser IE7 FF2 or Opera
Swimmer replied to Beathemdown's topic in General Discussion
I was fairly surprised by by IE7 to be honest.. I test drove it when it first came out just to see what it was like... All I can say is that it is a huge improvement over IE 6!! At lease in the web development world.. However, I am still and FF person.. -
Looks fine to me.. Just wondering why a micro atx mobo? If I was going to build a 939 based system I would be looking at this motherboard as another possibility.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813135175 Here is a decent review: http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/ecskn1extreme/

Does anyone have this phone? I am finally done with Cingular's contract... I have a v557 right now and am wondering if it is worth the additional 2 years with them for this phone? Thanks..

when are you running your backups? i am wondering if during the backup the tables are being locked causing the db connect not to work.

I would go with an ATI card.. The image quality tends to be a little bit better on linux than the nvidia counterpart. However, it you are going to game hardcore on linux then go with Nvidia. Nvidia had a faster framerate in linux than the ATI x1000 cards. What motherboard are you running? 4Gb of memory on a IGP board?

I have seen just about everything from every manufacture... I have had Seagates arrive dead from newegg, I have had the awesome experience with the Deskstar 75GXPs... The IBM drive that failed all of the time aka Deathstar.. I have had 3 WD drives fail in under a year most recent was a 250gb ( I had a destroy this drive post for a while with a 160gb version).. A few Maxtors mostly older ones ~80gb models.. However, I have yet to have a hitachi fail... Which kinda surprises me see as they bought out IBM's Disk business in 2003ish? That being said, I think, it is up to personal preference... Every hard drive will fail no matter what. I think in a 24/7 operation the average life span of a hard drive is about 18-24 months. So a consumer could easily see 3-5+ years of dependable usage.
