Well... I am about 99% sure that laptops can boot on power supply only... I know my dell 8600, 6000 and HP 4400 can all boot without having a battery installed at all. I looked up the CPI series and it looks like it is capable of booting on ac power only without the battery installed. The dell help forum isnt mentioning anything about having to have a battery installed for the laptop to boot. I would request the buyer to either ship it back for a refund or to just bite the $40..

You need to configure the PPPoE setting for the router.. http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=997&question=PPPoE Take a look at that and you should be up and running..

the problem might be that the UPnP is currently full... I would power cycle the router and see if the error goes away..

I would go with the motorola.. I have had only one samsung and it wasnt that impressive. It wasnt the highest end model but the ear piece was very quite.

If you are interested Sun Micro Systems is offering to send you a free copy of Solaris 10 DVD. I guess they want to build their consumer base... It is a lot linux for the most part however there are a few different commands as Solaris is based on UNIX.. http://www2.sun.de/dc/forms/reg_us_2211_391.jsp

The tracerts look pretty clean there is on router, 208.172.139.130, that looks like it might be a little slow.. Anything below 150ms is pretty good for gaming.. Improving it is something that you really cant control as it looks like an issue of a router not your computer. You can take a look at the Killer NIC. I doubt it would help in your situation.

You can bridge them together.. It isnt really making the signal stronger.. but providing more access points for your network. Basically what is created is a wireless mesh involving x number of WRT54Gs. There is a custom app called WDS, Wireless Distribution Service, that allows you to create backbone connections over the wireless network. So you have one router acting as a base station and the other router joins the network and basically repeats the signal. Now this is NOT the same as a standard AP or repeater!! Both of the previous devices require a wired link to enable service to the extra device. However, WDS you dont need the wired link. That being said there is a fairly large overhead in doing this. It is very possible to run out of bandwidth pretty quick.

If the device is flagged as error then it will not function. Does the error state that the device drivers are not installed or is the physical card shorted? If it is a driver error you can try running windows update from IE and looking in the optional category. Some of the time it will list newer drivers, if they have been approved by MS. Otherwise look on the manufacturer's website for the drivers.

If I remember correctly there is a way with out the JTAG cable.. I believe it involved vrworks or something to that effect.

I am about 95% sure that you can use the micro version of the release for v6. If I remember correctly it has the exact same specs as the 5 and 5.5 hardware.
-
Most of those release parties cost a ton of money to attend or are by invite only.. If you can go do it! It would be well worth it.
-
Burn a cd with the drivers... It is just easier then update them if your system still have newer drivers being released.

most of them look like they are from interfacelift.com

Drivers might do it... It could be the physical card also.. Of the 6 or so laptops in my family each on has different wifi characteristics.. Some get service in the basement and some dont.. The only thing that I could recommend would be pick up and external PCMCIA card. For some reason they seem to get the best reception. On my dell 8600 I have the Intel 2200 B/G. It works great in the house. However, if I plug in my netgear PCMCIA card the reception gets better and so do the speed when I am in areas where reception isnt the greatest.

What I meant was if you plug the router in with no encryption and the default SSID does the computer connect after the computer reboots? I would clear out the stored wireless connection that you dont use on a regular basis.

http://lasecwww.epfl.ch/~oechslin/projects/ophcrack/index.php The program: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ophcrack/

Does it stick with just the default configuration? no encryption, linksys SSID, etc.?

I took a look at the support forums on dell's website.. It looks like the xbox 360 causes problems on that platform for some reason.. Here is another problem, far worse than yours, that has yet to be solved... http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dce_W1700LCD&message.id=14610&query.id=206795#M14610

Are you talking about the installation program? Here is one of the more popular suites that includes just about every program for a hard drive you could ever want.. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

The modem is not firewalled.. If you are hosting behind a router then you will need to either DMZ the server or forward the necessary ports for BF2. The other thing to check would be if your anti-virus has a built in firewall. Most suites now include a firewall that also needs the ports to be forwarded or turned off to host.

AES is more secure... It was developed for the US Military to replace DES.. Basically TKIP is done in software where AES is all hardware based. So there is less overhead coming down the OSI model.

Wow.. First welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about your problems with Verizon... So lets get started... You are using the RI408 router from Actiontec? From what I have read on the xbox 360 forums the best way to ensure game play is to have an "open" NAT. The ways that I have seen it done, with some varying degrees of success, via DMZ, port forward and UPnP. I would try the UPnP way first as I am not 100% sure that Verizon enables it on their routers. Basically navigate to the advanced screen then select Universal Plug & Play. That create an "open" NAT condition. The other thing to check would be for new firmware. Give that a try first. The dropped packets dont concern me because the games, for the most part, run on UDP which doesnt require packet acknowledgment.
