  1. Those symbols are generally when it is a different language, that is not recognized by the operating systems language package.. At least thats what I've noticed.
  2. Internet Xploder and FireFox both show the same numbers for me. If you are a tweaker of FireFox Maybe you have an error in about:config ? Or better yet. What is your Internet plan published 'upload' and 'download' specifications?
  3. I think it could corrupt or delete your profile, where all the bookmarks are stored. You never know with Ad-Ons, what they can do with the browser being tweaked to a different version. There is MozBackup to save your FireFox profile. It's great when you have different machines, so you can just backup a profile and then install that profile onto another machine.
  4. There are two ways around it. And an extreme warning that you could kill FireFox if the extension really does not like the new version of FireFox. But you could start FireFox in it's own safe mode if needed. The first one is a bit of reprogramming. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_an_add-on_to_change_its_compatibility This one is going into about:config and unchecking the checking of compatibility. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions_-_Firefox
  5. Until the third generation Internet satellites get launched,,, WildMoo in 2011 and Poosnet in 2012,,, This type of bait and switch is probably going to increase from just a few users to many more. They do try to make it look random, but when one person has it happen twice? Thats a pounding. Not all of the people are so sleepy to not notice when speeds suddenly change and never get back to what you had the first month. The latest installed users statistics are something like Hughesnet and WildGoo 10,000 users each a month. And I bet beam capacity is based on 60% to 70% of users online at once. And probably at 512Kbps package speeds as the basis. I do wonder exactly how many people have left since the first round of 3 year contracts were up in mayish 2008( a year ago). I have noticed posts stating the HN9000 users are now having problems getting to some sites, due to whatever crazy management software is at the NOC's. That has been a complaint for a long time with WildBlue. Seems their software does not like some domains or IP ranges. But Proxies still get through.
  6. Technology is so much fun... But I was on a wireless ISP where they had a system 'glitch'. Eventually they only blamed that something happened with their email service. B.S...... But at the same time I put a Dlink Ethernet card in my computer to try to stabilize/increase the speeds. Well guess what? The card bypassed my set speed high from the ISP and gave me speeds 5 to 10 times faster. Meanwhile the onboard ethernet port , my speeds were at the capped speed. And within 2 days the Ethernet card was back to the capped speed.

  8. So I checked out the Hughesnet BBB rating page. The rating may be majorly flawed due to how many years Hughes has been in Business and ten years of reporting out of that. Plus the home user customer base and corporate customer base, as variables. http://www.dc.bbb.org/report.html?compid=W9864&national=Y Ripoffreport is always fun to read. But I find some people do not even know what platform they are on in reviews on various forums. KA or KU. http://ripoffreport.com/searchresults.asp?q5=Hughesnet&searchtype=0&q1=ALL&q3=&q2=&q7=&q4=&q6=&start=0
  9. I thought I read something about a newer, faster 'wireless' Internet system for over there?
  10. Mines bigger than your's. Now you are part of the group.
  11. And it's only going to get worse over the next two years until the next satellites start to get put up. 2 years for WildPoo and 3 years for Screwsnet. Maybe Hughesnet is really heavily loading your beam area(in 10 months?), since you've said that the WildBlue dishes are disappearing. The scam works by giving you awesome speeds during the guarantee and then cut you back to system floating speeds plus or minus the 30 days. But not everyone knows their speeds and that's where the provider gets nailed when the speeds drop and knowledgeable users gets vocal. But I've said. Everyone is a small program on the server. Where they set your low speeds and your top speeds. And you've got to figure that if any remote Government office is using the system, that their speeds are set at full without any loss during high system use by regular users. I guess it comes down to most satellite users believe the B.S. that support tells them for the slow speed times, or just pay the $300 one time fee to go back to cheap dialup. The fee is easy money for any provider.
  12. I'm on a 6Mbps DSL connection and you do lose a certain amount off the top for overhead. But when your speeds are consistent 24/7 with no slowdowns.
  13. You need to use Java based test on DSL reports. The flash based test is showing slow any time I've tried it. It shows 4000Kbps on my normal 5200Kbps connection. And the upload test is slightly slow too on flash. Flash needs a disclaimer that Flash can skew(as in slow) the speed results.
  14. Hughesnet has announced their next KA band satellite launch date for 2012. http://www.ssloral.com/html/pressreleases/pr20090616.html By the quoted specs in the article, the new satellite should be a ViaSat1. http://www.viasat.com/broadband-satellite-networks/viasat-1 The same Satellite that will be used for Telesat with WildBlue and Xplornet as the users of the satellite service. To be launched in 2011.
  15. From the what the F*ck department. Even the real Mafia knows how to manage a successful business and keep up with the changing times. http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20090616/1527385253.shtml
  16. Maybe cause I'm kind of sleepy right now. Chocolate bars and cookies are wearing off.. Thought I'd Google Man Loving . And this is not a photoshop.
  17. On Telus DSL in British Columbia. They have automated the modem's MAC address authentication. Plug in and start surfing. It is good for two MAC address's. And I think the unused MAC address will expire in two hours or so. But you can interface with the website to delete MAC's if there is a problem with an old MAC not releasing. So when the day comes to get service, there is about a day's worth of unstable speeds, unless the tech did not have to go to the node to switch you on to a different port for a higher speed package. Since DSL is slowly upgrading to faster ports. And if they run out of higher speed ports for new customers? Well tough, till some upgrades are made to remove the older cards. And Telus also likes to give out a combo modem/router to alleviate call supports dealing with a modem and then a router of the customers choosing. So since the Siemens Gigaset SE567 was a piece of crap with the 'Telus firmware' version. I now have a modem only, Thomson Speedtouch ST516v6 , And my own router. And if the DSL modem can not train(stay connected) to your faster speed package, due to line noise or distance, support can throttle your speed back to achieve a stable speed. And some DSL ISP's have only certain modems that work on their particular DSL setup.
  18. Last I heard is the U.S. user who filed it put it on hiatus for awhile with a provision of refiling. Mainly the KU band users are the ones pizzed off. Theres also this one from California that is a very direct, to the point lawsuit. http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2009/05/satellite-net-service-sued-for-caps-paltry-bandwidth/
  19. Well some of the "1,147,995,904" India residents have to go somewhere. Yes, that is over 1 billion people. Here in Canada we have a yearly quota system for immigration from certain countries. But we are not allowed to talk about it. We also Recruit South African doctors. But it really ticks off South Africa that we are taking Their Doctors away.
  20. Xplornet is a re-seller of the Hughesnet service. So Xplornet Call Support may not always be in the know about Hughesnet system problems. You'd think that call support should have various system error codes automatically on their screens, whether in India or North America. But I wonder who actually runs the Winnipeg NOC? Did Xplornet hire some qualified techs. Or does Hughesnet mainly remotely control it?
  21. With the satellite Internet industry, it is kinda standard for the company to 'adjust' your speeds, during the one month return warranty or during a call support call. From reading many posts from users of the main providers. Is that someone calls in about slow speeds. Call support says to test over the next 12 hours so that support can see the results to determine the slowdown. Amazingly, the users speeds go back to what the user should be getting all the time. User calls support back and support see's no problem, so any higher level tech support is canceled. A couple of hours later, speeds go into the toilet again. User calls back. Support now 'suggests' a tech come out to their home to 'fix' the problem for a measly $100 to start. If uneducated user says 'Yes', a local installer gets real happy for the money. Unless he has to travel over a certain distance, then he wants a surcharge on top of the $100 charge. Which can cause the user to smarten up to the scam. This also applies To where the users system just won't connect, even though the lights are all proper and call support also suggests to send out a tech to 'fix' the 'problem'. And users system comes back to life one way or the other within the hour. Maybe you got put into a different NOC. Doing a tracert may show what your gateway is right now. People are still trying to determine where the SpaceWay3 NOC's are. One is in or near LasVegas. So if you got put into a NOC with the KU users, you may find speed problems that way.
  22. There is this company in Alberta who supposedly can make their VOIP work with Satellite. But that news was from before the Hughesnet HN9000 systems. http://www.comamigo.com/ They might have a free trial to see if it works. I think someones post said they can tweak the protocol for satellite lag. But LAG times over even a 1000ms may be hit or miss. The WildBlue service was able to do VOIP before the dreaded DAMA was applied in 2006 causing pings to rise from 600ms to over a 1000ms. And if you have a good router to be able to make a dedicated bandwidth QOS to the VOIP ,thats a good thing. Xplornets version of VOIP may be calibrated for the Telesat systems. http://www.xplornet.com/iptalk.php
  23. And the phone serial number is also on the box it came in. Heres a link to how this buy and return scam works. http://reviews.ebay.com/New-buyer-related-scam-effecting-sellers-Return-Fraud_W0QQugidZ10000000004227183
  24. I never knew they had water indicators. It is white when no moisture damage. "The iPhone has an indicator at the base of its headphone jack that is normally white. If the iPhone has been submerged in liquid or had liquid damage. Apple says that if half of the dot becomes red (or a pinkish color) when the iPhone has been submerged in liquid (see the Apple document for an image).
  25. Ummm. Would your original sales contract for the phone, when you bought it, have the phones serial number on it? Or even the store you bought it at have a computer file sales history on it? Some people do try the old buy and switch. And then return the 'switched phone' back to the seller, for a full refund. And the legal part... "Sold as is, where is." You are an honest person, and did not attempt to defraud, your Honor. Bla. Bla. Bla.
